Production hinges on a platform sharing agreement
According to a recent report, Volvo's entry-level crossover - which could be called the XC30 or XC40 - could be delayed until a platform sharing agreement is reached with another automaker.
Auto Motor und Sport says the company has determined that their current Ford-based architecture is not flexible enough to be used on a new crossover. Engineers have also come to the conclusion that their upcoming Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) is too large to underpin the model. This leaves the company in a bind as the small crossover segment is booming with entries such as the Audi Q3 and BMW X1.
There's no word on when an agreement could be reached, but former Volvo CEO Stefan Jacoby confirmed discussions were underway.
