Range Rover Sport RS spied on the Nurburgring

Range Rover Sport RS spied on the Nurburgring

Range Rover Sport RS spy photo 26.9.2013 / SB-Medien

Should have 550 HP (405 kW)

Development work continues on the Range Rover Sport RS as our spies have caught the model on the Nürburgring.

Designed to battle the BMW X5 M and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, the Range Rover Sport RS is distinguished by an aggressive front bumper with larger air intakes. We can also see a revised rear bumper and a four-tailpipe sports exhaust system. The model also has a sport-tuned suspension and a Brembo braking system with red calipers.

Power will likely be provided by the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that currently resides in the Jaguar XFR-S and XKR-S. This means we can expect it to produce 550 HP (405 kW) and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque. Considering the Range Rover Sport Supercharged accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds, the RS variant should accomplish the same task in approximately 4.8 seconds.

Chevrolet has introduced two new Silverado concepts at the Texas State Fair.

First up, the Silverado Volunteer Firefighter concept pays tribute to first responders and showcases how the truck can be used by municipalities and governments.

It is based on the Silverado Double Cab and features a two-tone exterior with a light bar, chrome side steps and 22-inch alloy wheels. The model also has a siren, a PA system and chrome fire extinguishers. Last but not least, there's an axe and an upgraded interior with chrome-plated accents.

The Silverado Black Ops, on the other hand, is described as a "survival kit on four wheels." It has a rugged exterior with custom-fabricated lower body armor, a winch, tow hooks and LED spot lights. There's also tubular side steps, extended fender flares and 18-inch alloy wheels with off-road tires.

To ensure the truck is equipped for the end of the world, it features a generator, a fuel can, a water can and a lockable toolbox that holds a "solar power pack," a pair of gas masks, gloves, a folding shovel and a military first aid kit.

Both concepts are powered by a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 bhp (265 kW) and 383 lb-ft (518 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system.

Peugeot 908 HYbrid4 hits the track for the first time

Peugeot gave the 908 HYbrid4 its world debut at Geneva this year. Since then, the dual powered Le Mans racer has undergone a shakedown at private PSA Peugeot Citro n venue, and more recently, hit the track for the first time. It was at Estoril, Portugal, for testing.

The car completed a little more than 300 km in the hands of Peugeot drivers Nicolas Minassian, St phane Sarrazin and Alexander Wurz. "Our aim wasn't to put a lot of kilometres on the clock, but to verify that all the chief functions performed," said Peugeot Sport's Technical Director Bruno Famin.

"It was important to analyse the data of each run to be sure we understood the results before moving on to the next step. The system functioned well and responded as predicted, which was very satisfying. At the same time, we started to make a few adjustments to the car's basic set-up. It worked well, so that's very positive," he added.

The system employed by the 908 HYbrid4 recovers and stores the kinetic energy generated under braking, before feeding it back into the driveline during acceleration. This significantly improves the efficiency of the powertrain, says Peugeot. The diesel engine is a 3.7-litre V8 HDi FAP unit with 550 hp. It is aided by a short power boost of 60kW (80 hp) for a few seconds when it the system is activated.

Recovered energy (500kJ between two braking phases) is stored in lithium-ion batteries before being automatically released to power the rear wheels under acceleration (there is no "push to pass" function, however). It will also be possible to run in electric only mode along the pit-lane and it is this mode that will be used for the car's homologation.

It won't compete in Le Mans anytime soon, though. "We have no intention of rushing things. We are still on a learning curve and the endurance testing will come later," Famin said.

French flair: Peugeot 508 test drive report from Spain

The French have always had a certain fortitude and self-belief about them, nowhere more so than when it comes to their approach to cars. Love it? Tres bien. Indifferent, or not taken by it? Unlike the Italians, who would beg to disagree - rather strongly - if you happen to think one of their designs isn't quite the trick, the same response from the French would be, well, it's your loss then, because it is such a gem, non?

That cavalier train of thought, equivalent to an adage that 'we build it the way we see it best, and so it is, indeed, perfect,' has worked well enough in the past. And, up till the last few years, it has even gotten them by, even if fissures were starting to show.

Take the Peugeot 407, for instance. Lovely looking car, and sizeable enough, but what about that massive front overhang and oodles of unutilised space, which you could house a dog in (anyone remember the Italian incident with a 207)? The interior certainly wasn't shabby, but rear passenger comfort seemed an afterthought. Not lacking in form, but questionably, function. Likewise the 607, hardly the commercial success, though that one was pretty much scoped from an era of such id e fixe still well and truly entrenched.

Well, a significant softening in approach has come about, one that suggests that the company, if not exactly abandoning core ideals, has adopted a less parochial view of things and a more global take on matters. This new fashion is reflected in something like the 508, Pug's replacement for both the 407 and 607. Coming in from those, it's almost radical, even.

Full story after the jump.

The M2, or D segment 508 is available in two bodystyles, saloon and estate (SW). The shape reinterprets cues from the stylistic codes seen on the SR1 concept, with a single grille rendered in a floating style and strong expression of the headlamps setting the tone up front - taut and dynamic are good descriptors for the car's face. The sides are clean and balanced, and this carries on to the simple, but flowing rear. It's a handsome car, the 508.

By and large, I've never really been gobsmacked by French offerings in the past, design-wise. The shapes haven't really worked for me, or rather the manner the lines have been interpreted. For example, I still don't think the 308's rear really gels with what's happening up front. This one, however, threads everything together quite tidily despite its size, and organically so. Granted, it's all shaded a bit on the conservative side, despite the sleekness, but it works - the SW is also every bit a looker, arguably more so in my books.

The car shares the same platform as the second-generation Citro n C5, and both vehicles are made side by side at the PSA plant in Rennes. To affirm that this is indeed a serious push on a global scale, the car is also being made in Wuhan, China for the Chinese market, though only the saloon is being sold there.

Presumably, the last has to do with how the car has shaped up, figuratively at least - Pug expects that China will be the largest market for the car, and with size and space being paramount in that particular arena, the 4.79 metre long (4.81 metre for the SW), 1.83 metre wide and 1.45 metre tall dimensions for the 508 means that it's sized up - to wit, it starts by being 101 mm longer than the 407 in saloon form.

Other notable numbers include a reduced front overhang (- 43 mm) and increased wheelbase (+ 92 mm) and longer rear overhang compared to the 407. Oh, and with the increase in dimensions come much improved space for the rear passengers. All this volume, with a reduction in weight - the saloon weighs 25 kg less than the 407 version, while the SW weighs 45 kg less than its older equivalent, based on like-on-like engines.

As you'd assume, boot space is also up over the 407. The saloon offers 545 litres, while the SW has 660 litres, and with the split seatbacks folded, the volume goes up to 1,581 litres for the saloon and 1,865 litres for the SW.

A number of engine variants abound for the car in Europe, starting with the 120 hp 1.6 litre VTi form right up to the range-topping DW12C diesel, which is the 2.2 HDi FAP mill. The engine options for the car are less than that available for the 407, but the consolidated lineup - with the familiar 1.6 litre 156 THP Prince unit in there - works well enough.

Gone is the 240 PS and 450 Nm 3.0 litre HDi biggie of old, but the 2.2 HDi on the 508 has been reworked to offset that. Previously, in its DW12B form, the 2.2 litre turbodiesel offered 170 hp and 370 Nm; the revised DW12C incarnation now puts out 204 hp and 458 Nm.

Two front suspension setups are available for the car, a drop-link double wishbone and a more conventional McPherson strut type. The more sophisticated double wishbone is only available with the 2.2 HDi-equipped GT version, to offer dynamic road handling in keeping with the engine's workings, as the company puts it, with the rest of the model range going the pseudo McPherson route. At the rear, a multi-arm suspension features across the entire model range.

As to why the intrinsically superior double wishbone front setup isn't featured across the board, the answer is all down to both price and weight. Aside from cost, the pseudo McPhersons offer a weight saving of 12 kg over the double wishbones, and the Peugeot people explained that the gains obtained could be then put back into the car in the form of other equipment or kit, without bloating the final kerb figure. Nice explanation, actually; you can imagine a shrug of the shoulders as a response in days of old!

Similarly, the GT is the only 508 to get the new AM6 six-speed automatic gearbox (with paddle shifters), and the Aisin co-developed tranny features reworked bearings, segments, clutch linings, special oil and a new converter, among other elements. Gear change times have also been reoptimised, and the company says that on the whole the unit is quicker and smoother than the AT6, which features on the rest of the model range alongside a six-speed manual.

Elsewhere, three different-sized front brake discs are to be had; a 283 x 26 mm unit that equips three variants, a 304 x 28 mm unit on the 1.6 litre 156 THP and a 340 x 30 mm unit for the GT. At the rear, the entire range wears 290 x 12 mm discs.

Among the items to be found on a comprehensive equipment list are six airbags (dual front, side and curtain), ESP (which includes stability control, emergency brake assist and EBD), a colour head-up display, push start ignition, directional bi-Xenon headlamps with a LED signature, four-zone air conditioning, on-board navigation and a WIP Sound six-speaker audio system, with a JBL 10-speaker, 10-channel 500 watt amplifier system available as an option.

The Pug's cabin feels roomy, a significant leap from that of the 407's, especially at the back. The front has good shoulder room too; my partner during the drive wasn't a small chap by any measure, but the shoulder-to-shoulder space afforded more than ample distance proximity values, and throughout the drive comfort levels with regards to space - as well as seating - were high.

It feels premium as well, the interior - the layout may seem a bit homogenic from a flair context, but everything is presented very cleanly and with sophistication. Textures are good to sight as well as touch, especially with regards to primary contact and visual points. Certainly, there can be little for anyone to complain about in terms of trim and material.

Some thoughts about space for items though; large cubbyholes and boxed areas offer a total of 22 litres of cabin storage space, according to the numbers, and these are well workable, but the central console area still suffers from a lack of placement options.

The media drive took place in Spain earlier in the year, and there was a chance to sample the saloon, both in 1.6 litre 156 THP (with the six-speeder manual) and 2.2 HDi-equipped GT form. The course around Alicante took us up as far as Xixona, and provided an ample platform for the 508 to show what it was all about. We started out in the GT, which turned out to be a blast, because the car is definitely something to shout about.

The mill's tractability is naturally the standout element - the low to mid-band punch makes light work of hauling the mass around, and exuberant best describes the character, but the rest of the car has an excellent vibrancy about it as well, more than enough to keep interest levels high.

The suspension's suppleness and deftness of feel contribute to things, with plenty of useful information coming off it being particularly impressive. The chassis keeps pace as well, offering a good degree of neutrality and tracking ability. In all, the GT never felt cumbersome or slow, despite its size.

The changover point at Biar took us over to the 156 THP, which sobered things a little. The stick shifter helped to keep things fairly lively, at least for me, but it was hard to lose almost half the torque and not feel it.

Not that the Prince isn't able - you can still get the car going, and there's decent pull, but you'll have to work the vehicle hard for the thrills. Pushed hard, the McPhersons also felt less inspiring than the double wishbones; not soft, mind you, just less refined in soaking up undulations and bumps. Indeed, with everything set more linearly, the entire focus shifts the presentation, making this one feel more executive than unbridled.

Once we'd settled down and stopped gunning it like we stole it though, the variant's character began to shine through. Driven sensibly (well, it is an executive sedan, I can imagine some of you saying so right now), the 156 THP's workings alluded that it would - coupled to the likes of the AT6 auto - feel very much at home in the urban scene here in KL, with its polished, refined mien offering plenty of appeal.

Still, the GT would be the pick of the 508 crop, and it's easy to see why. Yes, I know, enthusing about a variant that isn't coming here is a bit like telling you how great a toy is, but you're never going to be able to play with it, but really, it's a shame we won't be getting the GT. You can imagine that the pricing won't make it that competitive, besides the obvious as to why it isn't coming, but that really is our loss.

For Malaysia, the 508 will come in a single form, the 156 THP (with the AT6 transmission), and the Prince is certainly strong enough a performer to carry the car for the intended target market. The car itself represents an impressive leap forward, coming in from the 407, and those into their Lions will find plenty to cheer about.

It will however find a new buying segment here; though it is the replacement for the latter, the shift in focus, translating to a shift in pricing, means that the 508 will come in at a higher price point than the 407. For the crowd looking for something along the old one's lines from a price point of view, there's the 408 over the horizon. Those who can bag it, however, will find in this one how the French have finally moved on. Tres bien? Certainly.

Maserati’s Upcoming SUV to be Named Cinqueporte?

Maserati_Kubang_Concept_new_fr3.jpg

Maserati gave us an official preview of its upcoming SUV in Frankfurt last month with the Kubang concept. Maserati chose to reuse the name from a previous SUV concept for the new concept, but that name may not be used for the production model.

It's being reported that Maserati recently registered the name "Cinqueporte", which may be the official name for the new SUV. Cinqueporte translates to "five doors", which provides some proof that it will be used for Maserati's SUV.

The Maserati SUV will share its platform with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but will be powered by engines from Ferrari. It will also be built alongside the Jeep at Chrysler's Jefferson North plant in Detroit, MI.

2014 BMW 4 Series GranCoupe spy photo / S.B. Medien

The 2014 BMW 4-series GrandCoupe has returned to the streets for a new round of testing giving our spy photographers another chance to get up close and personal. Fortunately for our prying eyes, we get a good look at the interior for the first time.

It reveals that the GranCoupe variant of the 4-series will get an interior that is virtually identical to its Coupe sibling. The latest batch also shows the exterior from all angles and there is little camoflage to hide the finer details of the design.

Under the skin, we expect an engine line-up to mirror the offerings of the Coupe. This includes an entry level turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that develops 240 bhp (179 kW) and 255 lb-ft (345 Nm) of torque as well a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 300 bhp (224 kW) and 300 lb-ft (406 Nm) of torque.

We expect to see the 2014 BMW 4-series Gran Coupe officially unveiled for the first time at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

Jaguar Cruise Control ‘May Not Respond To Normal Inputs’

2008 Jaguar X-Type

2008 Jaguar X-Type

In case you need further proof that cars are becoming less mechanical and more dependent upon software, Jaguar has issued a recall of some 17,678 X-type dieselmodels in the UK, to correct a software glitch.

In this case, the software glitch affects the car's cruise control system, and in the words of the recall notice, "in some circumstances the cruise control may not respond to the normal inputs."

That sounds like a PR-department approved way of saying that the cruise control may not disengage when a customer tells it to, which is a potentially serious defect we'd have a hard time ignoring.

Per the IEEE blog Risk Factor, Jaguar says that no accidents have been reported due to the employee-discovered software problem. Until new code can be written and uploaded to each customer's car, Jaguar advises customers to "turn off the car's ignition" if the cruise control won't disengage.

As Toyota found out with its own stuck accelerator issue, many owners of push button ignition cars don't even know how to turn off the ignition when the car is moving, since there is no standard method from automobile to automobile. Worse, turning off the ignition will increase steering effort and reduce power assist to the brakes, which the vast majority of drivers have never experienced.

Since the problem appears to be isolated to 2006-10 Jaguar XJ diesel models sold in the UK, customers on this side of the pond need not worry about this particular recall. If you drive a car with a push button ignition, however, it is a good reminder that you should learn the procedure for shutting off your car in an emergency.

Ford Explorer Hits The 100,000-Sales Milestone In Early October

2012 Ford Explorer

As milestones go, achieving 100,000 sales of a redesigned vehicle is pretty impressive. Now that the new Ford Explorer has reached that pinnacle, the Dearborn, Michigan automaker is touting that the Explorer is the fastest-growing mid-size utility in the country.

This may be some comfort to the Blue Oval folks after what has to be a stinging blow from Consumer Reports' 2011 Annual Car Reliability Survey (subscription required) showing Ford dropping to 20th spot this year, from 10th place last year. This was attributed to three new models that "blemished" Ford's record: the Explorer, Fiesta and Focus, all with below-average reliability.

Still, consumers are gravitating to the new Explorer crossover SUV. Ford switched from the Explorer's previous truck-based architecture to car-based underpinnings, dramatically changed the styling, and introduced the fuel-efficient 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine for the 2012 model year. Being the owner of the newest Explorer certainly has some appeal.

As noted in TheCarConnection, our sister publication, Ford conducted extensive research with consumers prior to developing the 2011 Explorer and, contrary to some critics' issues with its unibody construction, reduced towing capacity and somewhat limited off-road capability, consumers seem to like the new version.

As for the fuel-efficient EcoBoost engine, now available in the Explorer and Edge, Ford says sales of models equipped with the engine are up 15 percent.

Audi Presents Facelifted Versions of 2013MY A4, A4 Allroad and S4 Models

Have you ever heard about Audi's 360o design philosophy? Well, allow us to explain with an example. In its more recent incarnation, it goes something like this: the latest A4 [B8] provided the styling guidelines for the creation of the new 2011MY A8 which itself inspired the design of the new 2012MY A6, which has now become the inspiration for the updated A4...So that probably gives you an idea about the styling changes for the 2013MY Audi A4 in both sedan and Avant forms as well as its S4 and A4 Allroad Quattro siblings. In a similar fashion to the recently updated A5/S5 models, the refreshed A4s gain Audi's new six-point grille and sharper looking headlamps with LED daytime running lights that form a narrow band, redesigned front and rear bumpers, plus tweaked tail lights that reflect the shape of the head lights and come with LED strips.

The exterior modifications have slightly altered the dimensions of the A4, with the sedan and Avant now measuring 4.70 meters (15.42 ft) in length, and the Allroad Quattro and S4, 4.72 meters (15.49 ft). The wheelbases for all variants is 2.81 meters (9.22 ft), and the width is 1.83 and 1.84 meters, respectively (6.0 and 6.04 ft), while the height varies between 1.41 and 1.50 meters (4.63 and 4.92 ft) depending on the version.

Audi's designers refined the A4 s interior with a new selection of steering wheel designs and fresh color options, while the company also made changes to the steering arm and the ignition key.

On the engine front, Audi says consumption levels have dropped by 11 percent on average, despite the increased power and torque of many of the engines.

In Europe, the A4 sedan and Avant will be offered with a new 1.8-liter TFSI petrol that delivers 170HP and 320 Nm (236.02 lb-ft) of torque. In the sedan, it returns a combined fuel economy of 5.6 lt/100km (42.0 US mpg) with CO2 emission of 134 grams per km (215.65 g/mile), which represents a 19 percent decrease in consumption compared with the previous engine.

The updated 2.0-liter TDI is offered in three states of tune producing 136HP (100kW), 163HP (120kW) and 177HP (130kW). The 136HP version is the most fuel-efficient delivering an average consumption of 4.2 lt/100 km (56.0 US mpg) with CO2 emissions of 112 grams per km (180.25 g/mile).

The most potent engine available in the series is the 3.0-liter V6 TFSI that produces 272HP in the A4 and 333HP in the S4. The latter is available in both sedan and Avant variants. The S4 sedan goes from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 5.0 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) while returning an average fuel consumption of 8.0 liters per 100 km (29.40 US mpg).

A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on the A4 Sedan and Avant models with front-wheel drive, with most variants offering an optional continuously variable multitronic transmission. The quattro versions come with either a manual gearbox or the seven-speed S tronic double-clutch transmission. The A4 Allroad Quattro employs a manual transmission or S tronic with all engine variants.

Audi added that the mounts of the rear suspension control arms are new and the characteristics of the shock absorbers have been re-tuned while the electromechanical power steering is also new in all models of the A4.

Ford’s Reliability Suffers in Consumer Reports Survey, Japanese Brands Rule and Europeans are a Mixed Bag

Consumer Reports has published its 2011 annual auto survey in which the main point of interest, as the report states, is a sharp decline in Ford's so far "solid reliability record": the Detroit carmaker dropped 10 places in the overall reliability ranks.According to CR's survey, which is based on responses from 1.3 million vehicles owners, Ford's drop from 10th to 20th place among 28 carmakers can be attributed to two main factors. The first is that all three of Ford's new models, i.e. the Explorer, Fiesta and Focus, scored below average in reliability in their first year on the market. "We have often found that new or revamped models have more problems in their first year than in subsequent model years", commented the senior director of Consumer Reports' Automotive Test Center, David Champion. "Ford's problems illustrate why we recommend to our subscribers to hold off buying a first-year model."

The second factor that contributed to Ford's decline is problems with new technologies, such as the MyfFord Touch infotainment system and the new PowerShift semi-automatic gearbox used in the Focus and Fiesta. The similar MyLincoln Touch system's problems even affected Lincoln's MKX, even though the brand was ranked above Ford. On the positive side, the Fusion Hybrid scored very well, and its other versions were above average.

Contrary to Ford, Chrysler has seen its reliability record improve significantly: Jeep is now the most reliable domestic brand in the U.S., having risen from 20th to 13th place. Dodge and Chrysler did not do badly either, moving up 12 and 3 places respectively.

Predictably, it is the Japanese that continue to dominate the reliability survey, securing the top nine positions of the scoreboard since of the 91 models that CR had sufficient data, 87 ranked average or better and 24 cars earned top marks. Scion (with two models ranked) led the pack, followed by Lexus, Acura, Mazda, Honda and Toyota.

Despite Chrysler's improvement, the Detroit Big Three still haven't caught up with their rivals, ranking not only below the Japanese but also the two Korean brands, Hyundai and Kia. GM's Buick and Cadillac did worse than in 2010, with the LaCrosse, Enclave AWD and SRX scoring lower than last year and losing the "recommended" tag.

General Motors' best result was the Chevrolet Volt that was the group's most reliable car, even though the sample was barely larger than the 100-unit minimum required by the survey and the cars were owned for only a few months.

European carmakers were, as always, a mixed lot: the highest-ranking brand was Volvo, at 10th spot, while VW retained its 16th place, and both BMW and Mercedes-Benz improved, though their line-up reliability was inconsistent.

The biggest loser was Porsche: in 2010 it was second best but this year it is second worst, due to only two models being ranked one of which, the second-generation Cayenne SUV, suffered many reliability problems.

Not surprisingly, given its record of accomplishment and decades-old bad reputation, Jaguar finished dead last as its XF and XJ luxury sedans were the two least reliable models in the entire survey.

Scion iQ-RS by Michael Chang

It takes a special kind of tuning talent to turn a rather mundane Scion iQ into a piece of racing art for the 2011 SEMA Auto Show. Fortunately, Scion found the right person in Michael Chang.

In turning the iQ into a wicked little racer, Chang enlisted the help of Evasive Motorsports in breaking some attitude to the iQ. A plethora of EM custom materials were used on the exterior, including fender flares, a vented, a Voltex GT wing and trunk mount, a carbon front lip, front splitter, side splitter, and rear diffuser. On top of that, the car was also fitted with Voltex carbon canards, a Wraptivo Matte White vehicle wrap with custom Red Pin striping, and a set of 17 Advan Racing RT wheels wrapped on Toyo R888 Racing R-Compound tires with a Wilwood 6-piston front and rear brake kit. Inside, the iQ-RS was dressed up EVO seats with 6-point, 3 racing harness, racing side mounts, a steering wheel, pedals, and a Weld-On quick release, all of which were sourced from Sparco. Then there are the custom parts, which Chang himself put into the car. There's a carbon fiber door panel, a rear trunk panel, a 6-point roll cage, a carbon dash trim, a rally-style shifter, a carbon fiber center console, a warning indicator and toggle switch, and an 11 touch-screen display.

With all these modifications in tow, Chang and EM also modified the engine by putting an a carbon air induction box, a heat-shield with a gold thermal reflector, a custom transmission cooler with a carbon cover, and custom Koyo full-size radiator, among other things. 2012 Toyota Yaris Hatchback First Impressions

2012 Toyota Yaris Hatchback

Toyota has put a new spin on the old adage "don't mess with success" in that the foundation of the Yaris has not changed. For 2012, Toyota will market a basic three-door CE, while the five-door hatchback will come in LE and SE trim.

The four-door sedan will remain unchanged for the time being; Toyota Canada states that sedan sales are decreasing while five-door sales are increasing, and they want to see where the market is going. With the changes made to the design of the five-door model, it is easy to see why sales would increase. The rear hatch provides easy access to the cargo area and space utilization is better than in the sedan. Rumor has it that three hockey bags can fit in the back and that dad and the three kids can fit in the car comfortably, after their post-game shower. All of this comes about because of minor sheet metal changes and major interior changes. On the outside, the roofline is 15 mm lower, the wheelbase is 55 mm longer and overall length has increased by 75 mm or 105 mm, depending on which of the two models you measure.Overall, the Yaris hatchback looks better balanced than before. When you look at the car from different angles, it doesn't have that pinched-in look and it flows from front to rear in a much more pleasing style. There is no way that you will mistake this car for anything other than a Yaris five-door.More rear-seat legroom
Inside, it is equally impressive. That increase in wheelbase has translated into more rear-seat legroom, while a resculpting of the front seatback has added to the increase in kneeroom. Space is such that two full-sized adults can sit in the back comfortably for a couple of hours.Up front, the seats are much more comfortable. The seat adjusting mechanisms have been redesigned, with more teeth on the adjustment gears so that it is much easier to find a comfortable driving position. For fine-tuning your driving position, the steering wheel is tilt adjustable but doesn't telescope.
