New Toyota GT 86 Sports Coupe

2013 Toyota GT 86

Toyota GT86, without a shadow of doubt, is one of the most important cars of 2012. The car is still making headlines, so forgive us for talking so much about it. Toyota just released a bunch of new videos detailing the car's technical stuff. We know the GT86 feels pretty awesome to drive, now let's find out what exactly makes it so good. The 86 is one of those car whose mechanical bits are actually more beautiful than the way it looks!

The horizontally-opposed 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine in this car is one of the things contributing to its greatness. But it's also one of its major flaws. You see, it's very low-slung, which brings the center of gravity for the whole car down, making it better to drive. But it's also weak at only 200 hp. Hopefully a more powerful version in near future would cure that.

2013 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta First Look

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta images

With 740 hp, a phenomenally flat torque curve, compact form, agile handling, optimum weight distribution and a distinctive, aerodynamically honed shape, the all new Ferrari F12 Berlinetta marks a major step forward in the history of 12 cylinders Ferraris.

With the F12 Berlinetta, Pininfarina designed a most pleasing interpretation of style for a light, compact Berlinetta with a front engine: the car shape immediately communicates its high performance while bringing together functionality and beauty.

The two goals Ferrari sets for the creation of the new Ferrari F12 Berlinetta were particularly challenging because, in a certain sense, were opposed to each other: to exceed the qualities and the performance of a car designed for the track while maintaining a level of comfort and ease of driving of a GT.

In developing the F12 Berlinetta, Ferrari has taken the best from two of the company’s highly successful models, the GTO and the 458 Italia which boasts driving dynamics that are unique. The main points were to reduce the car’s dimensions: the front-mounted engine now leads to greater inertia on bends, which has to be limited in order to provide an easy and dynamic driving experience. The F12 Berlinetta is shorter, narrower and lower than the 599 while still offering a better driving position and superior comfort. Ferrari engineers carried out the work in such a way as to utilize every space and channel, exactly as they do with Formula One cars, to then performed careful work on the car’s weight, with excellent results similar to those of the GTO, but with the comfort of a road car. All this guarantees handling very similar to that of an eight-cylinder like the 458 because the inertia factor disappears in driving, even on particularly winding routes.

What is striking when you look at the car is its streamlined and innovative shape, betraying the hand of a very special designer: the wind. The lines are modeled on designs suggested by the air, with an incredibly low drag factor for a car like the F12 Berlinetta which is capable of such high down-force.

Inertia, mass and dimensions are the physical basis of this new model, one that promises to be spectacular in terms of performance as well as style. In terms of engine and electronics, the car has an engine of over 740 hp at 8,700 rpm, with torque rising almost in a straight line from 4,000, with emissions and consumption reduced by 20 percent.

2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG spied near the 'Ring

2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG spied near the Ring

2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG spy photo 26.10.2013 / S. Baldauf/SB-Medien

Could have 500 HP

The next generation of the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG has been spied once again while heading to the Nürburgring.

Mercedes-Benz still keeps a lot of camouflage on these next-gen C63 AMG prototypes but this latest batch of spy photos provides us with a better view of the front fascia with those large air intakes while the back of the car is dominated by the double AMG exhausts on each side. By the looks of these pics it seems the new C63 AMG will have small air intakes in the rear bumper.

Engine details are scarce at the moment but it is believed the 2014 C63 AMG will use a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine which will also power the upcoming C190. AMG CEO Tobias Moers hinted earlier this week that output will be somewhere in the region of 485-500 HP (356-367 kW). He believes there is no need for a C63 AMG rated at 600 HP (441 kW).

The new C-Class will be unveiled in the first part of 2014 and will be followed a couple of months later by the AMG sedan variant. Sometime around 2015 the estate version will also be treated with some AMG love.

Raikkonen blames tyres for slip in form

Raikkonen blames tyres for slip in form

Kimi Raikkonen with worn Pirelli tyres 25.10.2013 Indian Grand Prix / XPB Kimi Raikkonen has pointed to Pirelli's reversion to 2012-specification tyres, and the tightening of the operating guidelines, as the reason he has fallen off the pace at recent grands prix.

The Finn denied that his impending switch to Ferrari might explain why teammate Romain Grosjean appears to have moved ahead inside the Lotus team.

Told there is an obvious link between Raikkonen's drop in pace and his 2014 move to Ferrari, teammate Grosjean insisted: "It may look like it, but there is no direct link.

"Ok, it's my chance to prove that I can lead the team, but from my side it was all about just taking one step at a time," the on-form Frenchman told Die Welt newspaper.

Raikkonen, meanwhile, pointed to the tyres, whose specification was changed by Pirelli in the wake of the explosive British grand prix.

"I can get less out of them than Romain on a (single) flying lap," he is quoted by Agencia Estado.

"In the race it's less of a problem because you're not so much at the limit of the car, but when you have started down the grid, it's too late to attack the leaders."

The 2007 world champion said Pirelli's clamping down on the tyres' operating guidelines also hurt him.

"They increased the limits for camber and tyre pressure," Raikkonen explained. "So there's not much you can do about it.

"Before we had more freedom," he added.

Raikkonen is also quoted by Finland's Turun Sanomat: "I am not happy with the behaviour at the front of the car, and we have a limited ability to change it."

Raikkonen will be Fernando Alonso's teammate at Ferrari next year.

The Spaniard said Romain Grosjean is doing a "good job" alongside the Finn at present.

"But it's not a big surprise," Alonso is quoted by RMC.

"Last year he made some mistakes, he was sometimes too aggressive, but it has changed this year.

"He is a little bit calmer and he is doing a good job of using his speed on the track.

"Romain has always been a good driver," added Alonso, who was Grosjean's teammate at Renault for part of 2009.

Raikkonen, Ferrari, not 'worried' about 2013 form

Raikkonen, Ferrari, not worried about 2013 form

Kimi Raikkonen 24.10.2013 Indian Grand Prix / XPB Ahead of their 2014 reunion, Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen insist they are not worried about one another's worrying run of poor form.

Ferrari is ending the 2013 season as arguably only the fourth-quickest team in pitlane, after Red Bull, Mercedes and Raikkonen's current employer, Lotus.

How is that making the Finn feel ahead of his return to Ferrari for 2014?

"Good," the inimitable Raikkonen said in India, to the laughter of assembled reporters.

"Otherwise I wouldn't have made the decision if I didn't think it was right for myself," he argued.

But if the cool Finn is not worried, perhaps Ferrari is. At recent grands prix, particularly since Raikkonen's Lotus exit was announced, the 33-year-old has been slightly off teammate Romain Grosjean's pace.

"I'm not the slightest bit worried," Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali told the Finnish broadcaster MTV3, "but of course I have been following him this season.

"He has already gained our respect based on what he has been doing in his current team," the Italian added.

"He is now coming to us, and I look forward to getting to work with him again," said Domenicali, referring to Raikkonen's first Ferrari tenure between 2007 and 2009.

Many in the paddock still find it hard to believe Raikkonen, a former team champion, will be paired at Ferrari with 'number 1' Fernando Alonso next year.

That is part of the reason the Alonso-to-McLaren rumours are still alive, but another reason has been Alonso's regular criticism of Ferrari's form this year.

Domenicali, however, said Ferrari can swallow most of Alonso's comments. "To us it's an indication that this era must end," he acknowledged, referring to the fact that the team has not won a title since Raikkonen's in 2007.

"I have experienced an era similar to what we see now," Domenicali added, referring to the dominance of Red Bull, "but if you look back, you can also see how quickly things can change."

X4 design in X5-sized body

Our spies have sent us a new batch of photos with the second generation of the X6 ahead of its scheduled 2015 market release.

Get ready for a new coupe-fied X5 as BMW has been seen testing a new X6 around the Nürburgring in Germany. It’s not hard to imagine the car’s design after taking a look at the third-gen X5 and the X4 concept as the new X6 will combine styling cues found on the two X models. The headlights and taillights are likely to be borrowed from the X5 while the sloping roofline design will be mostly carried over from the X4 concept.

We expect the engine lineup to be borrowed from the X5 which means there will be a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo rated at 450 HP (331 kW), a six-cylinder 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo outputting 258 HP (190 kW) and a tri-turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder generating 381 HP (280 kW).

The new BMW X6 will be revealed towards the end of next year prior to reaching showrooms in the first part of 2015.

Ford Fiesta ST by Ice Nine Group

Posted on 10.25.2013 12:00 by Kirby Garlitos

The 2013 SEMA Auto Show is shaping up to be a doozy and the word out of Ford is that the automaker will be bringing an armada of vehicles to Las Vegas.

Fifty-seven in total, in case you're wondering, which is hugely significant considering that a lot of brands will be out in force themselves to showcase their latest aftermarket offerings.

One Ford model that will be well represented at SEMA is the automaker's resident pocket rocket, the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST. From the looks of it, five unique Fiesta ST models will be showcased at the event, including one created and developed by an aftermarket company who's no stranger to the lights of SEMA: Ice Nine Group.

We all remember the company's program for the Ford Fusion that was displayed at last year's event. This year, the tuning firm upped the ante with an incredible showcase of creativity and ingenuity wrapped up in a program for the Fiesta ST.

The car itself was transformed in the spirit of a rally car. Notice the Fiesta ST's grille now has a pair of fog lamps installed on it. That's not a happenstance addition, fellas. There's also a carbon-fiber hood, huge fender flares and a rear wing, all of which were added to improve the car's aerodynamic capabilities.

Meanwhile, the unique custom body wrap is the real highlight of the program, with Ice Nine Group opting for a confluence of colors (white, blue, orange, and black, mainly) that all combine to create a distinctive style and image. Rounding out Ice Nine Group's take on the Fiesta ST are a new set of 17-inch Braid wheels wrapped in Falken Azenis RT615K tires.

2013 Fiat 500L

Fiat 500 L images

According to Brazilian enthusiast site bestcars.com.br, Fiat will start selling the 500 L in Europe this month. Deliveries will begin in October. The good news is that the minivan will be available in 100 countries, including the good old USA. Fiat took the opportunity to supply more info on the first stem off its iconic Cinquecento that will spawn a slew of cars including the 500 X. Read on to find out the details.

The minivan will be available with three engines. The smallest is a turbo twin cylinder with MultiAir technology that displaces just 900 cm and is good for an astonishing 105 hp and 14.7 m.kgf (3.01 pounds per in ) of torque. Fiat will also offer a more traditional 1.4L 16v gasoline engine producing 95 hp and 12.7 m.kgf (2.6 pounds per in ) of torque. The diesel will be a turbo 1.3L MultiJet with just 85 hp, but 20.4 m.kgf (4.18 pounds per in ). They will be mated to 5 and 6-speed manuals. At least initially. Of course, once in America, an auto will be available.

On the safety side the car comes with frontal and side curtain bags. Knee bags and side torso bags will be optional. Stability control, air conditioning et al are all included. As far as I know, in a first for Fiat, the 500 L will feature a gizmo called City Brake Control. It consists of auto brakes which will brake the car independently of the driver's reaction at low speeds.

In terms of decoration, the 500 L will follow the 500 s lead and offer two-tone body paint (black or white roof), 3 color combos for the wheels and a variety of internal colors. The minivan will come with Fiat's UConnect system that lets the drives navigate, control the audio, Bluetooth among other functions via its 5 in. touchscreen display. The back seat can be adjusted in 12 different positions.

Size-wise, Americans will be forgiven if they think of this minivan as a microvan. It stretches out 4.14 m (4.53 yd.), it is 1.78 m (1.95 yd.) wide and 1.66 m (5.45 ft.) tall. It seats 5 and the trunk is largish and holds 400 L (14.13 ft. ) of bags.

So, what do you say, on paper at least, does this car have what it takes to make it in America's big, open, flat spaces, or will it be forever condemned to eke out a living in America's congested, coastal, urban centers?

To my Brazilian readers, the word is no, we can't have it! Fiat prefers to force-feed us the Idea that is produced locally. The 500 X however, might make it to our shores. If this holds true, it lends credence to the production and eventual sale of the 500 X in America and Canada as it will likely be produced in Mexico.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class receives aero kit from Prior Design

Mercedes-Benz G-Class receives aero kit from Prior Design

Mercedes-Benz G-Class by Prior Design 17.10.2013

Costs 12,900 EUR

Prior Design has released an aerodynamic body kit for the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (W463).

The G-Class is one of the few cars which stubbornly refuse to die and even after all these years there still are tuners who prepare kits for the Geländewagen. One such example is Prior Design with its aerodynamic body kit available in both wide (12,900 EUR) and non-wide (6,900 EUR) versions.

The package encompasses new front and rear bumpers, front/rear widenings and a new hood. All these parts are made from dura-flex FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) and are compatible with all G-Class W463 models.

Optionally available are the massive 23-inch DPE wheels which will add 7,900 EUR to the bill, while the Prior Design tire cover is another 1,199 EUR. The tuner is giving clients the chance to optionally configure their off-roader with interior cabin carbon appointments.

Inifiniti Essence-based four-door coupe in the works, range-topping sportscar also considered

Inifiniti Essence-based four-door coupe in the works, range-topping sportscar also considered

Infiniti Essence Concept

A report has surfaced that suggests Infiniti are looking to expand their range with a four-door coupe and possibly a range-topping sportscar.

The Japanese premium brand have an ambitious plan over the next 10 years to increase global sales by 150,000 units per year. This will require an investment of $10 billion to expand the existing range by five models. One of which will be a four-door coupe based on the gorgeous Infiniti Essence Concept you see in the attached photos.

The two-door concept will require a little extra room to accommodate the space required for rear seats and doors, but engineers will retain the sloping roofline. Reports indicate it will be based on Mercedes' versatile MFA (modular front-drive architecture) platform that will also underpin the A-, B-, CLA- and GLA-class.

Infiniti are targeting a launch date between 2017 and 2018.

Also under consideration but not yet confirmed is a production version of the Emerg-E Concept. It will give the brand a competitor to rivals such as Aston Martin and Jaguar. No further details are known at this early stage, but the signs are looking good.

All in all, the plans are a step in the right direction. Infiniti have the brand and expertise of Sebastian Vettel on their side, so we can see great success as they aim for a sportier line-up of models.

Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 tackles the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca [video]

Camaro Z/28 consistently wins on the MRC road course

The Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 recently spanked the Audi R8 V10 and Porsche 911 Carrera S on the Nürburgring so now it's time to return to America and battle the Mustang.

In the latest promotional video, Chevrolet compares the Camaro Z/28 to the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca. As you can see, the Camaro easily trounces the Mustang as it laps the MRC road course, at the Milford Proving Grounds, in 1:53.71 which is nearly 5.3 seconds faster than the Boss 302.

As we have previously reported, the Camaro Z/28 is powered by a 7.0-liter V8 engine that develops "at least" 500 bhp (373 kW) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque. The Mustang Boss 302, on the other hand, has a 5.0-liter V8 engine that cranks out 444 bhp (331 kW) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque.

Ford has released two new teaser images of SEMA-bound Mustangs.

First up, the Hollywood Hot Rods Mustang is described as an "extreme custom and performance-minded" model. It features a handmade roof, aluminum body components and a redesigned rear end. We can also see a front splitter, a side existing exhaust and massive alloy wheels.

The Nitto Tire Mustang GT, on the other hand, has a brilliant red exterior with black body stripes, a ventilated hood and side window louvers. The model also has a revised grille and a ground effects package. Power comes from a 5.0-liter V8 engine that has been equipped with a Ford Racing Cobra Jet intake manifold.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 by Steeda

Posted on 10.15.2013 13:00 by Simona

If you ask us, a standard Shelby GT500 is pretty cool from factory, but somehow Steeda decided the GT500 can be further updated it you know where to add the updates.

The 2014 Steeda GT500 package improves the most powerful Mustang ever with an extremely aggressive, but in the same time smooth, overall appearance. The car's width was increased, so it now perfectly fits those wider wheels, but also makes the GT500 looking a little bit more aggressive.

A base Shelby GT500 is powered by a 5.8-liter V-8 engine that delivers a total of 662 horsepower - an amount of power more than enough for a car like the GT500. However, Steeda found a solution to increase this output up to 725 horsepower. Steeda did not reveal how it obtained the extra power, but we expect the usual ECU updates and a new exhaust system.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Posted on 10.15.2013 13:30 by Justin Cupler

With falling sales and stiff competition from the BMW 7-Series and the Audi A8, Mercedes is looking to revamp its S-Class line for the 2014 model year. The model has been caught testing in many times and was teased even more, but today Mercedes finally unveiled in all its glory.

As expected, the 2014 S-Class adopted the same design language we have seen in all the recently launched Mercedes models, which was started by the 2010 Mercedes F800 Style Concept. Translated, this means the new S-Class received sharper lines, a sportier front fascia, a larger grille and a redesigned rear end.

The model grew in size, so it now offers improved interior room where the passengers can enjoy the highest-quality materials, luxurious wood trim, a metallic switchgear and stitched-leather accents.

UPDATE 05/15/2013: The new Mercedes S-Class finally made its world debut today at the Airbus A380 delivery center in Hamburg, Germany.

UPDATE 8/21/2013: Mercedes-Benz has announced the all new 2014 S 500 Plug-In Hybrid with its 94.2 mpg rating. See more after the jump.

UPDATED 9/9/2013: Mercedes-Benz has finally revealed the full U.S. lineup and pricing details. We will only see S550 and S550 4MATIC variant here in the States, and the model will base out at $92,900.

UPDATED 10/15/2013: The new Mercedes S-Class made its debut today at dealerships across the country and on network television as part of an integrated marketing launch. Check out the two new commercial we have just added to the review!

Toyota Camry Altise sedan

2012 Toyota Camry Altise

Toyota Camry Altise generation seven of the medium size family sedan and brings a raft of changes that will win over plenty of drivers not the least being its 2.5-litre four cylinder petrol engine mated to a six-speed auto transmission.

We got hold of the base model Altise that sells for $30,490 and were pleasantly surprised by most aspects of the car. The only real jarring note is the rear end styling which looks unfinished particularly around the tail light area.

It's the "fleet" model but scores a surprising amount of standard kit including seven air bags, a Lexus style stitched dash that is one of the best in the medium car category, 16-inch alloys, aircon, Bluetooth streaming and multiple steering wheel controls. OI,OI,OI

Better yet, Camry is made in Australia to Toyota's high international standards, a point that is obvious as soon as you get behind the wheel. Toyota doesn't make mistakes setting up its cars for local consumption.

They are fully Australianised in terms of engineering and design to the point where you can actually feel it on the road. Hit a bump and the Camry simply absorbs it - unruffled. Do the same in many imports and they bang and clatter just about loosening your teeth.

Everything works properly - the wipers cope easily with torrential rain and ice, the lights are bright, the aircon is strong and the ventilation system and seals don't allow dust inside, the boot is large, there's a full size spare and so on. No wonder they sell so many.

Plenty of power comes from the new 2.5-litre twin cam petrol four cylinder engine with dual VVTi (variable valve timing) but no direct injection. That would be expecting too much but is probably unnecessary given the available performance of the test car and the fact that it returned 7.3-litres/100km - on regular unleaded. The engine is a lift from US Camry and is good for 133kW/231Nm - a little more in the higher spec' models with dual exhausts.

Perhaps the most telling thing is how well the six-speed auto operates - most of the time. It can be caught out and stumble but is generally smooth, predictive and there's even a sequential shift mode this far down the food chain. No manual `box is available or needed.

Ride and handling was equally as impressive as the engine - once again thanks in part to local engineering. It is comfortable and controlled but can display a sporty side if pressed - and do a good job of it. Electric power steering makes an appearance for the first time and has a positive effect on the car's dynamics and drive feel.

The test car had an optional large touch screen and rear view camera which should be standard for the money we reckon. Panel gaps are getting down to Lexus levels and the interior has been upgraded with better shaped seats, a split folding rear seat and more space. We really like the "eco" gauge in the dash that helps cut fuel use.

New Audi A8 4.2-litre V8 TDI

2012 New Audi A8

Somewhere in the world, today probably, some clown is filling up the stonking Audi A8 4.2-litre V8 TDI's fuel tank with petrol.

That's because the filler has yet to recognise that this near silent, elegant, rapid and authoritatively-styled German is powered by a diesel engine. Getting out the petrol, flushing the fuel lines and replacing a few injectors and filters will be expensive.

Very expensive. But doubtless Audi service centres around the world are well practised. How can one blame the guy who filled it up? The A8 4.2TDI idles with almost inaudible assurance, responds instantly to a touch of the accelerator and cuts through freeway traffic with so little fuss and bereft of noise that the clink of Armagnac flutes from the rear seat can clearly be heard.

All this doesn't come for nothing. The limousine will cost $238,500 before it's ready for the road. It is loaded with equipment that will keep you amused for hours - possibly days. If you let children loose in here, you may not see them for months.

All this before you turn over the engine. Standard kit starts with the best materials and finest construction ever to grace the cabin of a sub-$500,000 car. It's brilliant.

There's also a superb audio and sat-nav system, a touchpad with handwriting recognition, wireless for your iPad/iPhone or Android and Audi's Multi Media Interface that does everything from alter the drivetrain characteristics to help lower fuel consumption.

It's a lavish and expansive saloon with its hard bits built predominantly from aluminium - it weighs about 40 per cent less than a comparable steel body - and the soft bits from leather, padded vinyl and wool-blend carpet. It has family lines but while its possible to mistake it for an A6 on a damp night, it is clearly too much a limousine to be an A4. There's more room than most people deserve and even the boot is big enough to carry sufficient cash to buy a small country.

The A8 rides on adaptive air suspension and the bi-turbo V8 diesel drives all wheels through an eight-speed sequential automatic. Remarkably, the 4.2-litre engine pumps 258kW/800Nm - that's not a mistake - and yet can get 7.6 L/100km.

Not when you max it out over the 0-100km/h spring, however, which can be dashed in a mere 5.5 seconds. Not bad for a 2-tonne, 5.1m top-notch four-door sedan. The MMI also gets a nod for its technological excellence.

This should go without saying but the A8 is the pinnacle of Audi's safety program. Some of the equipment is optional - and no surprise here but it's expensive - but the standard lifesaving aids should be more than adequate. The A8 previews Audi's pre-sense safety system for avoiding accidents and minimising the consequences, and gets night vision assistant with pedestrian marking and adaptive cruise control with "stop and go" feature.

Forget the word diesel and immerse yourself in 800Nm of torque flowing seamlessly to all wheels through a silky ZF eight-cog auto. Wet corners at night dissolve as a dry corner in day with the limpet grip of the tyres and AWD and the canny electronic aids. The quietness is so unnatural that the experience of cruising country highways is almost surreal.

Back to reality quickly, though, when overtaking and feeling that torque thrust the car forward without a murmur. Practical car for the city? Probably not. Perfect open-road tourer - also a maybe given it has no proper spare wheel. But the liquidity of its forward motion and readiness to spring to life without flinching, is magic.
