First models will roll off the line in mid-2014
Audi has announced the next-generation R8 will go into production at the company's new Böllinger Höfe facility starting in mid-2014.
Audi didn't have much to say about the model but the 23 hectare site will have body manufacturing, assembly and logistics facilities. The latter facility will be eco-friendly as it will have systems to provide heat generated by solar power and collect rain water for reuse.
In a statement, Plant Manager Fred Schulze said “The new production facility is a key element for the future viability and competitiveness of the Audi site." His sentiments were echoed by quattro GmbH Managing Director Franciscus van Meel who commented “All of our manufacturing expertise for the R8 will then be completely consolidated under one roof. This will enable us to optimize our production process and further expand our small-scale production expertise at the Neckarsulm site."
