Could preview a production model

BMW has released the first details about the i3 coupe concept, ahead of its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Essentially a three door version of the i3 concept, the coupe features a revised exterior with a modified front fascia, restyled doors and new side skirts. There's also an updated rear end with a new tailgate and a revised bumper.

Despite the changes, the model is instantly recognizable as an i variant thanks to its distinctive "stream flow" design. This particular concept has a two-tone exterior with 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in low rolling-resistance tires. Overall, the car measures 3,964mm long, 1,768mm wide and 1,555mm tall with a wheelbase that spans 2,570mm.

The i3's cabin has also been revamped as it incorporates leather / wool seats, light eucalyptus wood trim and brushed aluminum accents. There's also a digital instrument cluster, an iDrive infotainment system and two individual rear seats.

Motivation is provided by an electric motor that develops 170 HP (125 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery which enables the model to travel up to 160 km (100 miles) on a single charge.

BMW hasn't decided if the concept will go into production, but hinted it "demonstrates the potential for conceivably extending the [i3] model range."
