Mercedes-Benz has confirmed what we've all been expecting ever since the brand-new Mercedes-AMG GT was unveiled; the coupe will get a faster, meaner Black Series version. The news comes from AMG boss Tobias Moers, who confirmed plans for a more powerful Mercedes-AMG GT at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Moers declined to go into specifics or provide a launch date, but EVO speculates the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series won't become available before the 2018 model year.
We sincerely hope they are wrong and that the Black Series will need less time to roar onto a street near you.
So what will the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series bring once it arrives in dealerships? Well, details are still under wraps and that's not going to change for a while, but we can get an idea by looking at the SLS AMG Black Series. The beefed up coupe will most likely be distinguished by an aggressive body kit that will include a front splitter and a fixed rear wing, a stiffer suspension and a host of unique features inside and out.
Naturally, the package will also include an engine upgrade, with the turbocharged, 4.0-liter V-8 tuned to propel the Black Series to the top of the Mercedes-AMG GT range. Considering the SLS AMG Black Series had an extra 51 ponies over the standard model, it seems safe to assume the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series will arrive with more than 550 horses.
Updated 03/27/2015: Some information - from a man that already ordered the car - suggests that this more powerful version of the AMG GT could in fact be called GT R and not the Black Series. Same sources suggest the model could deliver a total of 530 PS - 522 HP, will be lighter and will offer improved aerodynamics.
