BMW has released the first image of their new 2012 BMW F10 M5 built for the German police force - the Polizei. Specifically built for police use only, no details aside from the above picture have been released. It would be apt to speculate that, if this car goes into production, a few ECU/engine tweaks would be implemented to better handle high speed pursuits on the Autobahn.
In the past, companies like TechArt have modified versions of their cars to handle Autobahn pursuits for the Polizei. The TechArt 911 carried a modified engine package, livery and various ancillary improvements leading it to be “the fastest police car in the world” at its top speed of 297km/h in 2005.
A stock 2012 M5 comes equipped with a 4.4 liter V8 engine that propels the M Power 5-Series forward from zero to 60mph in 4.4 seconds. The de-limited top speed clocks in at 190mph assisted in no small part by the 560hp on tap under the hood. The above prototype is reportedly stock, save for the Polizei themed green and white livery and light bar.
The M5 Polizei Edition is currently on display at the BMW museum in Munich, Germany. There are no plans to put this particular car into service anytime soon.
