Familiar styling, no all-wheel drive?

The 2014 Renault Clio crossover has been spied for the first time.

Caught alongside a Clio hatchback, the crossover - reportedly codenamed J87 - has familiar styling but is distinguished by a revised grille and a taller body. The prototype is heavily camouflaged, but our spies say the production model will have additional bodyside moldings, plastic wheel arches and an optional contrasting roof.

The interior will likely carryover from the standard model, so expect it to be offered with the R-Link infotainment system that features a seven-inch touchscreen display, TomTom navigation, internet connectivity and access to the Renault app store.

Under the hood, engine options could include:

  • A turbocharged 900cc three-cylinder Energy TCe 90 with 90 PS (66 kW / 89 hp) and 135 Nm (100 lb-ft) of torque
  • A 1.5-liter four-cylinder Energy dCi 90 with 90 PS (66 kW / 89 hp) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque
  • A 1.2-liter four-cylinder TCe 120 with 120 PS (88 kW / 118 hp) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque

Interestingly, the model isn't expected to be offered with all-wheel drive. It remains unclear if this will affect sales but Renault is hoping it doesn't.

The Clio crossover will be introduced in mid-2013, so look for a possible unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show.
