Leuxs LS fuel cell vehicle coming in 2017

Leuxs LS fuel cell vehicle coming in 2017?

Next-gen LS due in 2016

A new report indicates the next generation Lexus LS will be offered as a fuel cell vehicle.

Lexus will introduce the next generation of its flagship model sometime in 2016 and a year later the LS could also gain a fuel cell derivative. It will sit above the 600h version and will use a hydrogen hardware setup derived from the recently introduced Mirai FCV. The Toyota Fuel Cell System (TFCS) is expected to grow in size to match the bigger dimensions and weight of the LS.

In addition, the front fascia of the LS fuel cell will boast bigger air intakes necessary to cool down the hydrogen-powered electric system while under the front seat there's going to be a fuel cell unit. A hydrogen tank will sit beneath the rear seats along with another tank placed under the trunk.

The 2017 Lexus LS FCV is estimated to weigh 2,100 kg (4,630 lbs) and will feature a 150 kW fuel cell stack along with a 220 kW electric motor which will provide the vehicle with a zero-emission range of 239 miles (384 km).

At the moment all these numbers are only speculations so take the report with a pinch of salt.
