Appears to be bigger

Our spies have sent us a fresh batch of images depicting the all-new Audi A4 undergoing testing while wearing the production body.

Those of you who were hoping for a more differentiated design for Audi's upcoming A4 (B9) will be disappointed as the camouflaged prototype seen here adopts an evolutionary look with sharper lines in the same vein as yesterday's Q7 spy shots. Styling aside, it appears Audi's former entry-level sedan will be bigger in order to distance itself from the A3 Sedan and as a consequence it will have a longer wheelbase granting additional cabin room, especially in the back.

Technical details are scarce at this moment but chances are the overhauled Audi A4 will use the MLB Evo platform which should enable a considerable diet of approximately 220 lbs (100 kg). One of the engines rumored to be offered is a 1.4 TFSI equipped with a cylinder deactivation system capable of shutting off two of the cylinders in 36 milliseconds during low and medium loads as a measure to reduce fuel consumption by 0.5 liters / 100 km.

Later on during the A4's lifespan, we should also expect to see a plug-in hybrid variant mixing up a 211 bhp 2.0 TFSI with a 95 bhp electric motor which should grant the more frugal A4 with an electric range of 50 km (31 miles).

The revamped Audi A4 will be introduced sometime next year and will once again spawn an allroad variant.
