German media is reporting the next generation BMW 7-Series will lose up to 170 kg (375 lbs).
According to Auto Zeitung, Bavaria's flagship model is going to shave off as much as 170 kg as a result of using carbon fiber reinforced plastic, high-strength steels, aluminum and magnesium in the car's construction. The same source mentions we should expect the 7-Series to have a more balanced weight distribution while the center of gravity will be lowered compared to today's model.
From previous reports we found both the standard wheelbase (G11) and long wheelbase (G12) 7-Series models will be offered with an extensive array of high-tech options including Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Also on the menu are laser headlights and an Advanced Parking Assist Package, with the latter likely to be detailed in January at CES.
Set to receive an evolutionary design, the 2016 BMW 7-Series will be offered with a wide variety of engines, including a V12 6.6-liter from the Rolls-Royce Ghost & Wraith which is expected to deliver as much as 600 HP (441 kW). There should also be a couple of plug-in hybrids offering an electric range of up to 62 miles (100 km).
The next generation BMW 7-Series will likely premiere in September 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
A new report indicates the next generation Lexus LS will be offered as a fuel cell vehicle.
Lexus will introduce the next generation of its flagship model sometime in 2016 and a year later the LS could also gain a fuel cell derivative. It will sit above the 600h version and will use a hydrogen hardware setup derived from the recently introduced Mirai FCV. The Toyota Fuel Cell System (TFCS) is expected to grow in size to match the bigger dimensions and weight of the LS.
In addition, the front fascia of the LS fuel cell will boast bigger air intakes necessary to cool down the hydrogen-powered electric system while under the front seat there's going to be a fuel cell unit. A hydrogen tank will sit beneath the rear seats along with another tank placed under the trunk.
The 2017 Lexus LS FCV is estimated to weigh 2,100 kg (4,630 lbs) and will feature a 150 kW fuel cell stack along with a 220 kW electric motor which will provide the vehicle with a zero-emission range of 239 miles (384 km).
At the moment all these numbers are only speculations so take the report with a pinch of salt.
Dutch designer Marco Van Overbeeke has virtually envisioned the second generation Audi R8, set to be unveiled next year.
These renderings based on spy photos show an evolutionary design for the flagship model with Audi’s current radiator grille and LED lights.
From what we know so far, the 2015 R8 will keep its naturally aspirated V8 and V10 engines with power ranging from 450 bhp (335 kW) to 570 bhp (425 kW). Both engines are expected to be connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a quattro all-wheel drive system.
A rare white Lamborghini Murcielago SuperVeloce has been severely damaged in a crash occurred in China.
Details are scarce at the moment but judging by the severity of the impact chances are it was a high-speed crash as the supercar's front end was completely destroyed and the right side wheels are not in their normal position. The accident happened this week on the streets of Shenzhen in China and it's not known whether other cars were involved.
We remind you Lamborghini originally wanted to build 350 units of the Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce but they changed their minds and stopped production after assembling 186 units. Shortly after that, Lamborghini started making the necessary preparations to get the assembly line ready for the Aventador.
It was only yesterday when the Murcielago SV's successor, the Aventador SV, was spotted in Italy ahead of what will probably be an official launch in the second half of 2015.
The final production version of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider has been photographed without camouflage in Spain.
Back in March this year the Italian brand showed the 4C Spider concept during the Geneva Motor Show and now the companny is preparing for the market launch of the model, scheduled for 2015. These spy photos were taken near the city of Ubeda in Spain during a commercial shoot.
Compared to the prototype, the production model features a different tailpipe configuration, modified headlights and a small air intake at the left side that will be providing a better cooling for the transmission.
Power will be provided by the same 4-cylinder, 1.75-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that powers the standard 4C. The unit is rated at 240 PS (177 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque.
Additional spy photos can be found at the source link below.
A 1984 Audi Sport Quattro in great condition is set to go under the hammer next month at an event organized by RM Auctions.
It was driven for only 8,237 km (5,118 miles) and is believed to be one of the very few remaining fully original cars. It had two previous owners who took great care of what many consider as being Audi's most iconic car. Only 214 units were ever made and this particular car still has the original tools, jack, owner's manual and the extra set of racing belts.
The vehicle was recently serviced by an Audi dealership and as you can see it's in a very good condition both inside and out. Under the hood it has the legendary 2133cc five-cylinder turbocharged engine pushing out 302 bhp (225 kW) sent to a quattro all-wheel drive system through a five-speed manual gearbox. It also benefits from a fully independent front & rear suspension, front & rear anti-roll bars and four-wheel ventilated and slotted discs with four-piston calipers.
The car will be auctioned on January 16 and is expected to fetch anywhere between $350,000 and $475,000. At the same event, RM Auctions will also offer a 1989 Lamborghini LM002 estimated to grab between $175,000 and $225,000.

Following this morning’s leak, Audi has officially taken the wraps off the second generation Q7.
Billed as being the lightest model in its class, the overhauled Audi Q7 tips the scales at 1,995 kg (4,398 lbs) with the 3.0 TDI engine. It's up to 325 kg (716.5 lbs) lighter than its predecessor and approximately 26 percent more efficient. The massive weight loss was possible thanks to a lightweight chassis making extensive use of high-strength steel and aluminum which has made it more than 100 kg (220.5 lbs) lighter than before. A 71 kg (156.5 lbs) diet was achieved by implementing a multi-material body design including fully aluminum doors (shaving 24 kg), hood, front fenders and rear hatch.
Customers will be able to choose from xenon, LED or matrix LED headlights and all will come with double arrow LED daytime running lights, with the upper-spec models benefiting from dynamic turn signals in the taillights.
It has a drag coefficient of 0.32 and compared to its predecessor it's 37mm shorter and 15mm narrower while the height has remained just about the same. Despite being slightly smaller, the all-new Audi Q7 is actually more spacious on the inside where there's an extra 21mm between the first and second rows of seats and an additional 41mm front & 23mm rear of headroom.
Since we mentioned the cabin, it boasts the Audi virtual cockpit seen on the third-gen TT and there's also the latest implementation of the MMI infotainment system with a bigger touchpad. This new hardware setup has erased some of the buttons and knobs to enable a less cluttered dashboard layout while Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support will be available. The flagship SUV will be offered with either a Bose sound system with 3D sound or a more expensive Bang & Olufsen Advanced Audio System with 3D sound and 23 speakers packing 1,920 watts of power.
Also available is a rear seat entertainment system with one or two optional 10.1-inch tablets powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4 processor and featuring a full HD camera, 32GB of internal storage as well as Bluetooth, NFC and LTE connectivity.
Moving onto engines, we start with the 3.0 TDI rated at 272 HP (200 kW) and 600 Nm (442.5 lb-ft) which is enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 6.3 seconds before topping out at 145.4 mph (234 km/h). In this configuration, the Q7 consumes just 5.7 liters / 100 km (41.3 mpg US) and has 149 g/km of CO2 emissions.
A lesser 3.0 TDI with 218 HP (160 kW) and 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft) will also be available but at a later date.
Audi is offering a 3.0 TFSI with 333 HP (245 kW), 440 Nm (324.5 lb-ft) which does the sprint in 6.1s and reaches 155 mph (250 km/h). This one consumes 7.7 liters / 100 km (30.5 mpg US) and 179 g/km of CO2.
The 2015 Q7 will also get a 2.0 TFSI primarily in Asian markets and United States where it will put out 252 HP (185 kW) and 370 Nm (272.9 lb-ft).
The most important novelty is the addition of an e-tron quattro plug-in hybrid model which has a combined output of 373 HP (275 kW) and 700 Nm (516.3 lb-ft). It represents Audi's first ever plug-in hybrid diesel and has a fuel consumption of just 1.7 liters / 100 km (138.4 mpg US) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 50 g/km and a 34.8-mile (56 km) electric range.
The Audi Q7 e-tron has a 3.0 TDI with 258 HP (190 kW) and a 94 kW electric motor built into the 8-speed tiptronic gearbox. It needs 6 seconds for the sprint in hybrid mode and 6.1s when running on electric power while the top speed stands at 139.8 mph (225 km/h). It will be available shortly after regular model's debut and will get standard quattro AWD.
The 2015 Audi Q7 will be available on order at home in Germany in the spring from around €61,000, with deliveries kicking off in the summer.

Two sources close to Aston Martin cited by Automotive News have disclosed the British marque is working on a fundraising plan.
The plan is to issue new shares or bonds and extend their recovery strategy until 2020, representing a three-year increase compared to the original schedule. Aston Martin estimates they will be able to raise $156 - $234 million and the money are going to be used on an SUV as well as luxury sedans and hybrid models.
The same sources are saying Aston Martin will reveal the updated plan in March at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show when they will also announce an annual sales objective of almost 10,000 units, with 75 percent of the models being core sports cars.
Work has already started on a new architecture and we know future Aston Martin models will be powered by AMG engines. In addition, the company's new CEO Andy Palmer has elaborated three vehicle programs as part of a new planning department that will hopefully get AM back into shape as deliveries dropped last year to 4,200 cars, a lot less than the company's peak in 2007 when they sold 7,300 units.
Ford recently confirmed plans for a Focus RS and a new report is indicating it will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
According to a company insider who spoke to Edmunds, Ford will unveil a number of high-performance models at the show. While we've already heard rumors about the Shelby GT350R Mustang and Ford GT successor, the source only mentioned the Focus RS and F-150 Raptor.
When asked for details, Ford Group Vice President of Global Product Development, Raj Nair, said "We have not announced timing for [the] Raptor, but the cadence is reasonably close to the base vehicle." He added "I want to get it out as quickly as we can."
Koenigsegg announced plans to return to the United States earlier this year and new details are starting to emerge about the company's plans in America.
According to Car & Driver, there will be at least four North American dealerships and they will sell the Agera and an all-new model that will be announced sometime next year.
Little is known about the latter model but the magazine is reporting it and the Agera will be fully compliant with U.S. and Canadian safety regulations. This means we can expect them to be fitted with smart airbags and other mandated safety equipment.
Unfortunately, the cars won't be cheap as the Agera will reportedly sticker for $1,650,000.
BYD is a growing brand in China these days with its products growing in comfort, technical innovation, and originality. The New F3, however, isn't one of those products. While it is the latest version of the sedan, it still harks back to BYD's old habits of copying another automaker's designs. In this case, it is Toyota. The Corolla-like car shares many similar features, but has seen some differentiation since the adoption of "New" in its title. As the old saying goes, the sincerest form of flattery is imitation - meaning the New F3 isn't a bad car, thanks mostly to the Corolla.
The New F3 offers the Chinese and other foreign markets a vehicle for basic transportation. Room for five and a decent sized trunk are present. So is a dual-clutch transmission. Now before you start thinking about a DSG or PDK, this gearbox is tailored more for fuel economy rather than lightning-fast shifts. That becomes even more apparent when considering what the transmission is mounted to; the 1.5-liter four-cylinder produces a scant 107 horsepower and 106 pound-feet of torque. The 60-mph sprint comes in 12 seconds with a top speed of 105 mph.
Sure, it's not a performance car, but the payoff is 44 mpg on the highway and 27 mpg in the city. As a whole, the New F3 seems very focused for shorter, in-town jaunts than long highway cruising. And that's just fine as most of its sales region is concentrated urban areas.

If there was ever a concept that truly embodied the long-standing partnership between Ferrari and Pininfarina, it would be the 2013 Ferrari Sergio. The concept burst onto the scene at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show as a tribute model to the late Sergio Pininfarina. Reports that the Sergio was earmarked for production first surfaced in September 2014, and a little over a month later, a new report indicated that Ferrari and Pininfarina were actually building production models of the radical concept. Now, the wait is over, as it was recently officially announced that the first Ferrari Sergio has been delivered to the SBH Royal Auto Gallery at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit in the United Arab Emirates.
Ferrari and Pininfarina, the two architects behind the Sergio Concept, built six production versions of the radical supercar, each coming with a price tag of $3 million. The price is admittedly way more than I can afford, but for the six individuals Ferrari invited to snatch up the limited-edition piece, spending $3 million on an ultra-exclusive supercar can be considered money well spent.
Unfortunately, all six models have already been spoken for. Based on the Ferrari 458 Spider, the roadster was "created to celebrate the spirit and core values of the historic Cambiano company in the 60th anniversary year of its collaboration with the Prancing Horse," as stated in a press release.
The car is not only striking to look at, it's also, unsurprisingly, intended to be extremely driver oriented, as is emphasized in the press release: "An authentic open-top, it explicitly references the track, underscoring and intensifying its sense of sportiness, fun behind the wheel and the pleasure of design at its purest."
Each of the six Ferrari Sergios was carefully customized by its owner at a workshop in Maranello, where a large variety of colors, materials, and finishes were on hand to suit their personal tastes. The result, clearly, is a car that's fast, beautiful, and absolutely unique.
Updated 12/05/2014: Ferrari delivered the first Sergio to a client from the United Arab Emirates. There will be only six units built and each will celebrate the company's 60th anniversary.

Smartphone integration and in-dash vehicle electronics are getting ever closer to one another. With things like Siri Eyes Free and CarPlay coming to the market, folks are able to stay connected while still keeping their eyes on the road. But what about our Google-using friends? The internet and mobile device company has been working on Android's answer to Apple; and here it is.
Android Auto basically uses your vehicle's in-dash infotainment screen as a simplified display and input for your smartphone. Users connect their Android devices to the car via the charging cable and the phone enters Car Mode, rendering the car's touchscreen as the phone's primary screen.
This particular video is more targeted toward developers and how their applications will be displayed in the new mode. Things like voice control, music play-back, and even stored preferences all translate to the car's screen.
What's more, because all the user's information is stored on the phone, the Android Car Mode displays the same, no matter what car the user happens to be in. For the demonstration, Timothy Jordan uses a Kia Soul. Like the growing list for Apple's CarPlay, the list of manufacturers adopting Android abilities is growing. It includes Bentley, FCA, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, General Motors, Volkswagen, Volvo, Hyundai, Kia, and Honda - along with any sub-brands beneath each moniker.
Smartphone and car integration technology like this makes us excited. Not only is it a great bridge between two loved devices, but also it should help reduce driver distraction. That's a win-win situation.

Few cars define a segment like the Porsche 911. The pedigree, the refinement, the image... it's all there. But no car is unassailable, even Porsche's flagship. That's why Mercedes created the 2016 GT S, the supercar with a dual personality. It can be a 500-horsepower track weapon, or luxury highway cruiser, something to demolish lap times, or caress your backside. It's got heaps of composites and aluminum, making it lighter than the SLS, while inside, there's leather and other top-shelf luxury materials sitting astride bucket seats and the paddle shifters for a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
But Mercedes didn't set out to make a better 911. Rather, the AMG GT S is a different idea altogether. Which begs the question: what kind of idea would that be?
That's what Chris Harris set out to find in this video. When it comes to no-nonsense super car reviews, this guy definitely knows his stuff. He doesn't just ooh and ahh over horsepower figures or big sticker prices (although there is plenty of that). He also digs under the surface of the vehicle in question before coming to some authoritative conclusion, providing ample power slides as entrainment along the way.
That's the formula on hand here. We start with a breakdown of the rolling chassis, as Harris points out several of the design features of the AMG GT S, including the v-mounted twin-turbos and hydraulic steering rack. The new rear axle assembly also gets a once over, as does the exhaust system.
Speaking of making turns and loud noises, we later find Harris exploring the limits of grip in a full body AMG GT S on the inimitable curves of the Laguna Seca Raceway in northern California.
While a 911 never ends up crashing the party, watching the Merc get crossed up everywhere on track (and we do mean everywhere) as Harris fawns over both the vehicle and the setting is a joy. Spoiler alert: the verdict is a positive one, but honestly, that shouldn't be very surprising.

Citroen has released a new video of Sébastien Loeb testing the new C-Elysée WTCC at the Paul Ricard Circuit in France.
Set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the C-Elysée WTCC will compete in the World Touring Car Championship in 2014. Given its racing ambitions, the car has been equipped with an aggressive body kit that includes a new front fascia and a ventilated hood. The model also has revised side skirts, extended wheel arches, a prominent rear diffuser and a massive rear wing.
Power will be provided by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 380 bhp (283 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. It will be connected to a six-speed sequential transmission which sends power to the front wheels via a mechanical self-locking differential.
The car will be driven by Loeb and Yvan Muller who remarked it's "lighter, more powerful and more efficient" than anything he has driven in recent seasons.
Ford's official European tuning partner, Mountune, has announced plans to expand into the United States.
Citing the recent launch of the Fiesta ST and Focus ST in America, Mountune believes the time is right to offer their tuning accessories in the New World.
The company declined to say what parts will be available, but the most likely upgrades are their packages for the two aforementioned models. As you may recall, Mountune can tune the Fiesta ST to produce 215 HP (158 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque, while the Focus ST can be upgraded to churn out 275 HP (202 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque.
The company will launch a U.S. website later this month and parts will also be available from authorized Mountune dealers.
Tesla has delivered their first Model S outside of North America.
The car, a Model S Signature Edition, was delivered to Norwegian Frederic Hauge who previously bought the first electric vehicle imported into Norway in 1989. Interestingly, Hauge continuously ran his original EV through toll booths without paying until the government seized his car. He would then buy the model back and continue his antics time and time again. This went on until the government decided to eliminate tolls on electric vehicles.
According to Hauge, "As Europe's first owner of the Tesla Model S, I am very proud to be a pioneer." He went on to say the wait was frustrating but it's a great day because he finally has his car.
The European rollout of the Model S will expand shortly as deliveries are slated to occur in Switzerland and the Netherlands later this month.
The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS facelift has been grabbed on camera once again ahead of a scheduled late 2014 reveal.
The current generation of the CLS went on sale at the beginning of 2011 so Mercedes-Benz is working on a facelift which will reach dealerships in early 2015. Don't expect a lot of changes in terms of design as all styling tweaks will be reserved to the front fascia where the four-door coupe will get a new bumper, grille and headlights.
More importantly, it will most likely be the first U.S. Mercedes-Benz model to feature a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission which will be available "in at least one engine combination", according to a company insider.
Chances are the CLS Shooting Brake facelift will be launched together with the regular version towards the end of next year as 2015MY.
BMW has officially unveiled the 2014 BMW i3 in New York City which debuted as a concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show two years ago.
The visionary design of the BMW i3 showcases both BMW's customary sporting capability and the efficiency of a four-seater with authentic clarity.
Some notable features include a distinctive BMW kidney grille, U-shaped LED headlights, the "black belt" extending from the bonnet over the roof into the rear, opposing "coach" doors, "stream flow" side contours and 19- or 20-inch forged light-alloy wheels.
On the interior the leather used is treated solely with natural substances, with olive tree leaf extract which serves as a tanning agent. The instrument panel surround and door trim panels use fibres from the kenaf plant. Added to which, 25 per cent (by weight) of the plastic used in the interior has been replaced with recycled materials or renewable raw materials.
Three different trim levels - Loft, Lodge and Suite come equipped with air conditioning, USB/Bluetooth/SIM Card connectivity and a freestanding 6.5-inch iDrive display. Some features as GPS navigation, heated front seats, electrically-operated glass roof and automatic climate control are optional.
The 2014 BMW i3 is powered by a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that generates a maximum output of 125 kW/170 hp and peak torque of 250 Newton metres (184 lb-ft). Its instantaneous power flows to the rear wheels via a single-speed transmission. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds, an hits a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph) and can travel 130 - 160 kilometres (81 - 99 miles) on a single charge.
Kia had unveiled the all-new 2014 Cadenza premium sedan, the most technologically-advanced vehicle Kia has ever introduced in North America, at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The Cadenza moves the brand up-market with an impressive list of premium standard and optional equipment, including Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Lane-Departure Warning System (LDWS).
The new Cadenza is equipped with Kia's most powerful V6 engine ever. The smooth-revving 3.3-liter utilizes gasoline direct injection (GDI) technology. The GDI power plant produces 293 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 255 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,200 rpm.
