Geneva 2015: Lamborghini Aventador SV

With 690 horsepower and all wheel drive, the Lamborghini Aventador is already one of the fastest cars on for sale on the market today. But for those few insane enough that feel like the Aventador is too slow for them, Lamborghini has something for you. Debuting at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show, the Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SuperVeloce, otherwise known as the Aventador SV, is a car for the crazy speed freaks out there in the world.

The SuperVeloce moniker is only reserved for the ultimate version of Lamborghini's V12 exotics. There have been 3 SVs before the Aventador: The Miura SV, The Diablo SV, and the Murcielago SV. Each one was magical in it's own right. Now it's the Aventador's time to shine in SV guise, which is much more than a simple refresh. The Aventador SV receives a reworked version of the regular Aventador's 6.5L V12, here making 740 hp and 508 ft-lb of torque. That a healthy 50 hp is a result of fine tuning the variable valve timing and variable intake system, as well as a new lightweight exhaust sytem that reduces backpressure. The engine also now revs up to a screaming 8,500 RPM vs 8,250 RPM. However, the engine isn't the only upgrade the SV gets. Lamborghini has also given the Aventador SV's push-rod suspension set-up new magnetorheological dampers, as well as a revised electo-mechanical variable ratio steering system that is optimized for agility at low speeds and stability at high speeds.

All that extra power is now lugging around less weight than before. Lamborghini says that the SV is about 50 kg, or 110 lbs, lighter than the regular Aventador. This was achieved with an even more extensive amount of carbon fiber in the construction and a stripped out interior. As standard, the SV does not even come with carpets, less noise deadening, and no radio, however Lamborghini will put back the radio in at no extra charge for customers. The result of adding extra power and making the car lighter can be seen in the performance numbers. The Aventador SV will do the 0-60 mph sprint in a scant 2.8 seconds all the way to a top speed of 217 mph.

Visually, Lamborghini has added on many carbon fiber aero bits to optimize airflow and increase downforce. The most dramatic is the new large fixed rear spoiler that replaces the smaller, electric spoiler on the standard car. The SV also receives new front and rear bumpers, a new front splitter, and a rear diffuser that aids in downforce. All in all Lamborghini reckons that the SV generates about 170% more downforce than the regular Aventador.
