Mercedes-Benz has revealed online the high-performance AMG version of the GLA, prior to the vehicle's public debut set for later this month at NAIAS in Detroit.

Previewed by a concept in Los Angeles last November, the GLA 45 AMG looks as you would expect especially if you have seen the renders we posted a couple of days ago. It adopts a more aggressive styling approach in typical AMG style with beefier bumpers, muscular side skirts and bigger alloys, while at the back there's a quad exhaust setup.

Power is provided by a Euro 6-compliant 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine borrowed from the A 45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG. It delivers a more than adequate 360 HP (265 kW) and 450 Nm (331 lb-ft) transferred to the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system via a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT transmission.

It will sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 4.8 seconds onto an electronically-capped speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The GLA 45 AMG can return 37.6 mpg UK (31.3 mpg US or 7.5 liters / 100 km) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 175 g/km.

Other goodies fitted by Mercedes-Benz to its hot crossover include the AMG sports suspension and high-performance braking system while for more money customers can configure the GLA 45 AMG with an aerodynamic package, carbon fiber package, red painted brake calipers, rear spoiler, as well as a night package which has privacy windows, black anodized waistline trim strip and other black accents.

The interior cabin boasts sport seats wrapped around in leather/Dinamica microfiber with red contrasting stitching and red safety belts. There's also a three-spoke Nappa leather-covered steering wheel and an AMG instrument cluster with a two-tube design and a central color screen. At an additional cost, the interior can also get a carbon fiber trim, performance seats and steering wheel along with various upholstery options.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG is set to make its first public outing on January 13 at the North American International Auto Show.
