2014 Chevrolet SS Sedan starts at $44,470

2014 Chevrolet SS Sedan

Chevrolet officially announced that the all-new much-anticipated 2014 SS Sedan starts at a pretty tempting $44,470. Tempting, because the 2014 SS sedan is essentially a revived Pontiac G8 sedan, as both models are based on the recent Holden Commodores from Australia. And I'm sure most of us know how surprisingly good the G8 was. So this has to be, at bare minimum, just as good and if not better.

Additionally, the 2014 Chevrolet SS Sedan is the company's first bonafide rear-wheel drive sports sedan since the new millenium. The last one was the 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS, which sported the Corvette's 5.7L V8 and heavy duty upgrades in the package of the Chevrolet Caprice.

Now, the new SS sedan, which isn't exactly an Impala, is powered by a 6.2L LS3 V8 good for 415hp and 415 lb-ft of torque for a 0-60 time of five seconds. Channeling that power to the rear-wheels is a six-speed automatic transmission, with no choice of a manual (WHY GM, WHY?). Either they don't see potential in the market, or they're just holding out on us, because the future is never set in stone. Perhaps if we all shout out loud enough, they could always add the option.

And that's because on paper, the 2014 Chevrolet SS is shaping up to be the four-door Camaro that a fair amount of us have been lusting and dreaming after for years. This is one of Chevrolet's biggest redemptions in the car enthusiast world as the potential that could come from this model can be significant. Sporting a 50/50 weight distribution and a low center of gravity, it's a potential phoenix from the flames. So give it a manual GM!
