Company starts to think about the future

When Proton and DRB-HICOM announced Jean-Marc Gales would become the new CEO of Lotus, they hinted at a "transformation plan." Now, we're starting to learn more about it.

Citing company insiders, Utusan is reporting Gales presented a business plan which called for a new crossover and sedan. Little is known about the models but the meeting was reportedly attended by Proton CEO Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah and Lotus COO Aslam Farikullah - among others.

While the purists may howl, Lotus Engineering introduced a crossover prototype eight years ago. More recently, Lotus introduced the Eterne four-door coupe at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. It was scheduled to go into production in 2015 but that plan was scrapped when Proton was sold to DRB-Hicom and Dany Bahar was fired as Lotus CEO.
