Chevrolet Colorado

First unveiled in 2004, the Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck took a short break for the 2013 model year. Now with its short vacation about over, Chevrolet is already testing the second-generation Colorado, which is already available in markets like South America, Asia and Australia. Before you get too confused, please note that the U.S.-spec model will look slightly different than the global model.

Based on the prototypes recently caught testing at the company's plant near Michigan, it appears that the new-generation Colorado will adopt design language similar to what we've seen on the 2014 Silverado. These updates will include a new headlights, grille, bumpers and rectangle-shaped fenders. The model will also adopt a large lower air dam. You can see all of these features in our first rendering (above).

As for the engine lineup, rumors suggest we will see GM's new 3.6-liter V-6 engine, a small 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and the new 4.3-liter V-6 EcoTec3 engine. There are no rumors of a V-8 option, but the original Colorado did have one, starting in 2009, so it very well may get one at some point.

The new Chevrolet Colorado will be built at GM's Wentzville, MO plant alongside the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Updated 08/08/2013: General Motors unveiled today the first teaser image of the all-new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon that will be put into production in early 2014. The model was described by General Motors Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Dan Ammann as "capable, versatile and fuel-efficient alternatives to full-size pickups."

Updated 11/11/2013: General Motors has officially revealed that it will display the all-new Chevrolet Colorado at the 2013 LA Auto Show. According to the press release, GM said that the new Colorado "will redefine the midsize pickup market with great looks, fuel efficient engines, and the versatility active customers are looking for."
