Debuts at Frankfurt Motor Show

The Skoda Rapid Spaceback has been photographed in Czech Republic near the firm's headquarters.

The more practical version of the Rapid will allegedly be unveiled in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show and go on sale shortly after that. Latest spy pics show the Rapid Spaceback will have longer rear doors, bigger rear quarter windows and a sloping tailgate flanked by the Audi-ish taillights also seen on the new Octavia.

Engines will be borrowed from the regular Rapid so it will be available with a 1.6-liter TDI offered with 90 HP (66 kW) and 105 HP (77 kW). Clients will also be able to opt for a 1.2-liter MPI producing 75 HP (55 kW) and a turbocharged 1.2-liter TSI with 86 HP (63 kW) or 105 HP (77 kW). The most powerful engine will be a turbocharged 1.4-liter TSI offering 122 HP (90 kW) and 147 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque.
