70 g/km of CO2

Rumors say a plug-in hybrid version of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

This frugal S-Class will have CO2 emissions of 70 g/km, just 1 g/km less than the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid which right now is the lowest CO2 emitter in this segment. In the combined cycle, the S500 Plug-in Hybrid is said to return more than 90 mpg UK (75 mpg US or 3.1 liters / 100 km) which is just about the same as the hybrid Panamera.

Power will come from a gasoline V6 engine working together with an electric motor and a battery pack which will be installed in the trunk so cargo capacity will be slightly lower than on the regular model. The car's user interface will include an "E Drive" mode and will sport a battery usage gauge, as seen during a media presentation held in Germany back in March.
