2013 Lincoln MKZ

Lincoln MKZ

Nearly identical to the Lincoln MKZ Concept shown at the North American International Auto Show in January 2012, the production 2013 Lincoln MKZ embodies a design language that is subtly distinctive.

"We call it elegant simplicity," said Max Wolff, Lincoln Design director. "We wanted the new MKZ to be inviting and approachable. We moved away from traditional luxury cues and complex designs. We came up with something warm that is rich, yet still intentionally restrained."

Lincoln MKZ Exterior

A sweeping roofline defines the new luxury sedan's profile. The steeply raked windshield and lengthened backlight make for a sleeker and more flowing appearance that is 10 percent more aerodynamic than the model it replaces. "The MKZ shape is a vision completed with just a few strokes," said Wolff.

Although strikingly modern, the design retains classic Lincoln design elements including a more refined interpretation of the split-wing grille, first seen on the 1938 Lincoln-Zephyr.

Rearview mirrors stand on door-mounted, sculpted pedestals. This fitment enables the front door glass to extend farther forward to improve visibility and to allow even more light into the interior.

The crafted headlamp assemblies include bright, energy-efficient LED lighting. The front headlights turn in sync with the steering wheel, providing enhanced visibility. At the rear, LED technology enabled a thin, distinctive full-width taillamp graphic.

Lincoln MKZ Interior

Design teams created an inviting interior featuring bold architectural elements, rich natural materials and fine details.

"The exterior's front graphic is repeated in the dramatic sweep of the new instrument panel, helping tie the interior to the exterior in a harmonious manner. These flowing forms - along with the open center console - create a comfortable and functional interior that particularly appeals to younger, more diverse drivers we believe will now consider Lincoln," said Wolff.

Innovation and technology abound inside the new MKZ. Replacing the traditional mechanical transmission shift lever is a contemporary five-button interface. The individual buttons of Push Button Shift engage Park, Neutral, Reverse, and forward gears in two modes, Drive and Sport.

Push Button Shift gave designers freedom to create a sculptural multi-level center console with more functional storage areas.

Positioned ahead of the driver, the full-color 10.1-inch LCD instrument cluster operates with the latest version of SYNC with MyLincoln Touch. The all-new design combines dimensional indicator rings framing a brilliant and reconfigurable Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCD. An equally critical component of MyLincoln Touch is the nearly flush-mounted center 8-inch LCD touch screen that displays information clearly in easy-to-reference color-keyed quadrants.

Premium-grade, supple leather covers all seating surfaces. Responsibly harvested wood and metal-toned surfaces create a luxurious and comfortable interior space.

Standard luxury amenities include an 11-speaker audiophile entertainment system and cabin air filtration, plus heated front seats (with the driver's featuring 10-way power controls), remote start capabilities and Active Noise Control.

To make the Lincoln MKZ exceptionally quiet, ANC electronically targets frequencies and reduces their intensity. To improve the refinement of the driving experience, other frequencies are subtly enhanced.

The available THX II Certified Car Audio System is a Lincoln-exclusive that features 700 watts, 14 channels and 14 speakers. THX audio engineers spent more than 200 hours custom tuning the THX-certified equipment to the new MKZ's interior. The result delivers home-theater surround sound to the road.

The new Lincoln MKZ is the only sedan in its class to offer inflatable second-row outboard seat belts. Rear-seat passengers - often children or mature passengers - can be more vulnerable to head, chest and neck injuries. The available inflatable second-row, outboard seat belts spread impact forces across more than five times the area of conventional belts, reducing pressure on the chest while helping to control head and neck motion and helping reduce the risk of injuries.

Camera- and Radar-Based Driving Aids

The new Lincoln MKZ offers the Lane Keeping System, a suite of advanced driving aids that helps drivers avoid drifting from their lane due to distraction or fatigue. Consisting of Lane Keeping Aid, Lane Keeping Alert and Driver Assist, the Lane Keeping System utilizes a mono-vision camera integrated into the rearview mirror to read the lane markers ahead.

Available radar-based (ultrasonic) driving aids further enhance the driving experience. Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning with Brake Support each use a long-range radar system that scans in front of the vehicle, automatically adjusting to traffic speed and providing a visual and audible alert when a potential front-end collision is detected.

Active park assist and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS ) with cross-traffic alert use multiple short-range wide-angle radar sensors. Each function provides a distinct benefit, ranging from making parallel parking easier to warning of oncoming vehicles while backing out of a parking space.

SYNC with MyLincoln Touch

SYNC with MyLincoln Touch is standard in the new MKZ. The combined system makes it easier to use the entertainment, climate and available navigation features as well as devices brought into the car (e.g., phones, PDA, MP3 players). Twin five-way controls on the steering wheel manage essential systems, and many functions can be voice-activated via SYNC.

Standard SYNC Services make turn-by-turn directions available via one button push and simple voice commands. Continually improving voice recognition software learns user voices, improving the efficiency of voice commands.

Lincoln MKZ Dynamic Driving Technologies

The new MKZ offers Lincoln Drive Control as standard. Lincoln Drive Control is an automatic system that delivers an ideal balance of a smooth ride with confident handling as it intuitively responds to driver commands and the road, making the 2013 model the most refined and engaging MKZ ever.

Always on, Lincoln Drive Control orchestrates the performance of the Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) adjustable suspension, electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), engine, transmission, Active Noise Control (ANC), traction control and stability control systems.

The result is an unsurpassed combination of refined ride and engaging driving dynamics. CCD offers three modes (Sport/Normal/Comfort) that are accessible using MyLincoln Touch. Selecting "Sport" on the Push Button Shift gear selector enables a decidedly more sporty driving experience.

CCD contributes to Lincoln Drive Control's transparent action by monitoring the car's suspension settings up to 500 times per second. The real-time system adjusts the suspension up to 50 times per second to deliver more controlled handling with a smoother ride. CCD augments a highly developed chassis that includes a refined strut front suspension and an all new integral link rear suspension.

The new Lincoln MKZ is the only sedan in its class to include Continuously Controlled Damping and Active Noise Control as standard equipment.

MKZ Engines, Transmissions and Drive Systems

The 2013 Lincoln MKZ offers three distinct powertrains. The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost delivers the performance of a traditional V6 along with expected segment-leading fuel economy that is at least 3 mpg better than the closest competitor. This engine delivers a projected 20-percent increase in highway fuel economy versus the 2012 MKZ.

Emphasizing performance and efficiency, the optional 3.7-liter V6 produces significantly more power (37 horsepower and 28 lb.-ft. of torque) than the previous Lincoln MKZ V6 while improving fuel economy approximately 5 percent.

Maximizing fuel efficiency, the optional 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain is expected to enable the 2013 MKZ Hybrid to remain North America's most fuel-efficient premium sedan. The 2012 MKZ Hybrid is rated at 41 city mpg, 36 highway mpg.

Non-hybrid models utilize a six-speed automatic transmission. Standard paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel add to the performance driving experience of the Lincoln MKZ.

Improving grip on slippery roads, the available all-wheel-drive (AWD) system anticipates and adjusts the power delivery to the front and rear axles in as little as 16 milliseconds, faster than the blink of an eye.

Retractable Panoramic Roof

The Retractable Panoramic Roof is a new signature feature for Lincoln. The 15.2-square-foot glass panel offers one of the largest openings available on any current sedan. The design maintains the structural strength of a steel-roof vehicle.

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Rabbioso

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 "Rabbioso" by wheelsandmore; the successor of the legendary Murcielago sets new standards in the segment of super sports cars and Lamborghini unbridled the Aventador for the boulevards and racetracks of the world. Since the lead time is already more than a year before delivery, the solvent matador got enough time to sort out the exclusive group of luxury tuners and their offfers. Wheelsandmore from Baesweiler in Germany has been made in this segment for years and earned a name and therefore doesn't stop at Lamborghini's sharpest weapon.

Serial 700hp and 690nm torque are pulling at the 4 drive shafts of the V12 monster and provide a top speed of 350 km/h. After only 2.9s the sprint from a stand still up to 100 km/h is a thing of the past. Since power can't be a sin, Wheelsandmore developed a software upgrade, which has been adapted to the higher throughput of the valve-controlled exhaust system and a special carbon fibre airbox. Moderate but effectively the luxury tuner increases the overall performance up to stable 777hp at additionally 60nm of torque.

Visually, the ultralight forged 3-piece wheel model 6Sporz convinced again and clings to the front axle in 10.0x20" with 255/30/20 and on the rear axle in brute 12.5x21" with 355/25/21 tires from Pirelli perfectly to the body the Lambo. The outside rims are wearing the same new mocha-brown color as the whole Aventador and the weight optimized centers are finished in elegant matte black.

An exclusive program with selected carbon components is currently under development and will complete the portfolio of the Aventador refinement.

2012 Lamborghini Urus Concept Auto Insurance Information

2012 Lamborghini Urus Concept

2012 Lamborghini Urus Concept
Lamborghini Urus Concept

At the 2012 Beijing Motor Show, Automobili Lamborghini presents the ultimate super athlete in the SUV segment. The Lamborghini Urus Concept is completely redefining dynamics and design in this category. The Urus combines unique design, a fascinating interior and outstanding performance with versatility and everyday usability.

Output of around 440 kW / 600 hp and Lamborghini's excellent know-how in the field of lightweight design technologies guarantee breathtaking dynamics. At the same time, the Lamborghini Urus will offer the lowest CO2 figure of all comparable vehicles. As an SUV concept with four generous seats, a versatile luggage compartment, variable ground clearance and, of course, permanent all-wheel drive, the Urus delivers unique driving fun with virtually no limitations. The interior, too, matches the standards of this super athlete with innovative materials featuring carbon fiber technology like the patented Forged Composite .

The luxury SUV segment is successful worldwide and promises continued strong growth - a luxurious and powerful SUV is the most emotional way to drive a four-door vehicle equipped to meet all the demands of everyday mobility and yet enjoy refined driving fun. The Urus means that a Lamborghini can now be used by a household as its primary car. This expands the brand's customer base enormously - appealing to families and to the drivers of Lamborghini super sports cars who have thus far driven SUV models from other brands. Target markets are primarily the USA, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, the Middle East and China. The annual production volume could conceivably be around 3,000 vehicles.

"The Urus is a very concrete idea for the future of Lamborghini - as a third model line and as the perfect complement to our super sports cars," says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. "SUVs stand for freedom and emotion. SUVs make up one of the most successful market segments worldwide. The Urus is the most extreme interpretation of the SUV idea; it is the Lamborghini of the SUVs."

Heritage and Name

Permanent all-wheel drive is part of the Lamborghini DNA; but the brand from Sant'Agata Bolognese is also no stranger to the SUV segment - Lamborghini founded the super-luxury SUV segment with the legendary LM002. When it was unveiled in 1986, the LM002 was an absolutely revolutionary vehicle. An automobile suitable for off-road driving with a twelve-cylinder engine and 450 hp, a top speed of more than 210 km/h, a luxurious interior and, above all, an absolutely stunning appearance - it was utterly unthinkable at the time. The Lamborghini LM002 remained in production until 1992. And, although barely more than 300 units were ever built, the LM002 has secured its place in automotive history.

With the Urus, Lamborghini designers and engineers have created a new icon in automotive history - that much is certain. As has long been the tradition at Lamborghini, its name is derived once more from the world of bulls - the Urus, also known as Aurochs, is one of the large, wild ancestors of domestic cattle. Lamborghini Urus bulls could measure up to 1,8 meters at the shoulder. The Spanish fighting bull, as bred for the past 500 years, is still very close to the Lamborghini Urus in its appearance.

Concept and Technology

The Urus is the Lamborghini among SUVs. Its concept places design, performance and driving fun firmly and uncompromisingly front and center and redefines the benchmark for the competition. Yet it offers plenty of space for four people and a generous amount of luggage or shopping. The Urus is the Lamborghini for everyday use, for the family, for leisure pursuits with friends.

Most importantly, however, it is a true Lamborghini. The Lamborghini Urus has a unique, utterly unmistakable appearance. It looks powerful, but not bulky. It is muscular and highly athletic, but also elegant. At a length of 4,99 meters, it fits perfectly into the sporty SUV class. At a height of just 1,66 meters, however, it is considerably lower than all its competitors. Together with its width of 1,99 meters, the Lamborghini Urus boasts the perfect proportions for the super athlete in the segment.

The key to its performance is primarily the drive - the heart of every Lamborghini. The target has been set - expect around 440 kW / 600 hp. Permanent all-wheel drive with traction control is, of course, a given.

One target is clearly defined - the Lamborghini Urus will beat all comparable competitors when it comes to CO2 emissions. One important prerequisite for this is low weight. The Urus will be considerably lighter than its competitors, sticking firmly to the Lamborghini lightweight design philosophy. The steps to achieve this include an intelligent material mix for the structure and bodyshell and, for the first time, systematic lightweight design in the interior, too. The consistent application of innovative carbon fiber technologies is a given - Automobili Lamborghini possesses unique know-how in this particular field.

Lightweight design is the decisive prerequisite not only for moderate fuel consumption, but also for dynamics and handling. The Lamborghini Urus will set new benchmarks here, too. A low center of gravity and a highly variable bodyshell height are among the solutions. The Lamborghini SUV is also notable for its innovative, adaptive aerodynamics. In combination with the variable bodyshell height, the height-adjustable front spoiler facilitates a good approach angle and excellent obstacle clearance. At its lowest setting, however, it aids stability at high speeds. The form is, of course, aerodynamically refined. At the upper edge of the rear windshield is a deflector that diverts the airflow along the rear windshield and onto the adjustable spoiler. In combination with the likewise adaptive rear spoiler, the aerodynamic balance of the Lamborghini Urus can even be adjusted to suit the prevailing driving conditions.

Design

Lamborghini design is unique. Every Lamborghini is an artwork of avant-garde design, a technical sculpture in rapid movement. Every Lamborghini is pure and minimalist - exhibiting a clear focus on what matters. The Lamborghini Urus concept car adheres to this logic just as firmly as the Aventador sports car. Extremely tight, razor-sharp lines define a precision that is at the very forefront of automotive design. And the clean, taut, finely executed surfaces show the exceptional degree of competence and experience possessed by Lamborghini in design, construction and bodyshell manufacturing. The result is a tremendously precise design language with a strong technical appeal that is amazingly spirited and light in its expression.

It starts at the front, which already displays the clear family resemblance. The strong three-dimensionality with sharp lines, a clear arrow form, large air intakes left and right, the Y shape in the headlamps, the aerodynamically refined function of the elements and the lines that run from the hood over the roof to the rear of the vehicle - these characteristics of the Lamborghini design language are all evident in the Urus.

And yet every single detail has been reinterpreted - for example, the headlamps now take on a horizontal, heptagonal form and feature full LED technology consisting of two arrays each with three high-performance LEDs. LED light guides lend the daytime running lights their characteristic Y-shape, while the LED fog lamps are positioned beneath the huge air intakes. Between them is the adaptive front spoiler. Characteristic for the side view of the Lamborghini Urus is the narrow window surface that tapers sharply toward the rear. Together with the highly dynamic roofline and the extremely muscular rear wheel arch, they create a taut and powerfully sporty look. The marked indent formed behind the front wheel arch by the air intake breaks the side view to give it a surprising degree of lightness.

Substantial wheels are part of any Lamborghini, especially if it redefines dynamics in the SUV segment - the all-new 24-inch wheels sport a double-spoke design and are forged from matte-finish aluminum. Five carbon fiber winglets optimize ventilation. The Urus is painted in a rich, lightly shimmering red that offers the ideal contrast for the many bodyshell parts made from carbon fiber reinforced polymer. A large proportion of the front spoiler, the complete side sills and the mighty rear diffuser all clearly display their carbon fiber origins. There are no conventional exterior mirrors, instead small and aerodynamically optimized cameras monitor traffic conditions behind the vehicle. These images are displayed via two TFT screens placed in ergonomically perfect positions on the left and right of the cockpit.

The rear end of the Lamborghini Urus Concept is astonishingly round for a Lamborghini; it looks powerful, but in no way bulky. The narrow rear lights featuring the Y signature are connected by a black strip that adds emphasis to the car's breadth. The attention paid by Lamborghini designers to detail is evident everywhere, even on the exhaust system. The four hexagonal end pipes are carefully fitted into chrome surrounds.

Interior

The Lamborghini Urus completely redefines the term sporty within the SUV segment, yet without restricting its everyday usability. This is particularly evident in its interior - the driver and up to three passengers feel like they are wearing a perfectly made-to-measure suit - carefully fitted, but comfortable. Yet there can be no doubt that what we are dealing with here is the ultimate sports car among SUVs. Virtually the complete interior is - in keeping with the Lamborghini lightweight design strategy - finished in carbon fiber reinforced polymer.

Automobili Lamborghini possesses a unique competence in the use of carbon materials, and exhibits this innovative technology in the Lamborghini Urus Concept car. The center tunnel is particularly notable - an open, skeletal carbon fiber structure made from Forged Composite . It carries through the entire interior and is only partially clad in leather-upholstered cushioning. Single cushions also clad the four bucket seats. The seating position is lower and flatter than in any other vehicle in the segment. Also all four bucket seats are made from Forged Composite .

The Lamborghini Urus Concept also features an extremely minimized operating philosophy. Behind the steering wheel are only the shift paddles for the dual-clutch transmission. All other functions such as indicators, lights and windshield wipers are incorporated into either the multifunction steering wheel or the center console. The driver is delivered information via a freely programmable TFT screen behind the steering wheel. Secondary functions like navigation, entertainment and climate control are operated via a touchscreen on the center tunnel. A further touchscreen is available for rear seat passengers.

2012 BMW M5 CAR Insurance Information

2012 BMW M5 BMW car pictures download - Car insurance information, specifications, review -

2012 BMW M5

A change in leadership is nigh in the exclusive segment that brings together ultra-dynamic business saloons with track-oriented drive and chassis technology. The new BMW M5 is poised to build on the tradition of its predecessors and once again redefine the performance experience available in a four-door car. Displaying the conceptual harmony, state-of-the-art technology and astonishingly dynamic handling for which BMW M cars have become renowned, the fifth-generation BMW M5 stirs the passion of keen drivers for top performance and blends it, in inimitable style, with the universal qualities of a top-class premium saloon. The most powerful engine ever fitted in a series-produced model from BMW M GmbH, the innovative Active M Differential - which optimises power transfer to the rear wheels - and model-specific chassis technology developed on the back of extensive racing expertise all secure the BMW M5 a dominant position in the high-performance saloon market.

The new BMW M5 is a high-performance sports car whose exceptional dynamic potential is geared squarely to the demands of track use yet which also sets a new benchmark in everyday driving with its supreme touring comfort and innovative equipment features. It also sets the pace in its class in terms of efficiency. The car's history of success in a segment founded more than 25 years ago by the original BMW M5 is set to continue in thrillingly contemporary style.

Under the bonnet of the new BMW M5 lies a newly developed, high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo (consisting of Twin Scroll Twin Turbo technology, a cross-bank exhaust manifold, High Precision Injection petrol direct injection and VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control), maximum output of 412 kW/560 hp at 6,000 - 7,000 rpm and peak torque of 680 Newton metres (502 lb-ft) between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm. The instantaneous power delivery and sustained thrust familiar from M cars are the key to acceleration of 0 - 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds (0 - 200 km/h/124 mph: 13.0 seconds). Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 9.9 litres per 100 kilometres / 28.5 mpg imp (CO2 emissions: 232 g/km). While output has increased by around 10 per cent and maximum torque is up by more than 30 per cent, the new BMW M5 burns over 30 per cent less fuel than its predecessor.

The significantly improved balance between the performance-focused M experience and the car's fuel consumption stems from the exceptionally impressive efficiency of the new V8 engine and from far-reaching Efficient Dynamics technology including the Auto Start-Stop function in conjunction with the standard seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission Drivelogic. In order to channel the engine's imposing power development into inspiring performance characteristics, the new BMW M5 boasts chassis technology - including electronically controlled dampers, M-specific Servotronic steering, a stability control system with M Dynamic Mode and high-performance compound brakes - developed on the back of racing expertise and tuned to the output profile of the powerplant.

This technology combines with model-specific design features - which make a direct contribution to optimising the supply of cooling air and enhancing aerodynamic characteristics - to create the conceptual harmony typical of BMW M cars. The precise interplay of the drive system, chassis and design has been refined in extensive and detailed testing on the Nordschleife circuit at the N rburgring, to ensure unbeatable longitudinal and lateral acceleration, handling characteristics and braking performance.

The interior design, control concept and innovative equipment features of the new car also play their part in creating the exclusive M experience. Sports seats, an M leather steering wheel, and an M-specific instrument cluster and centre console lend the cockpit a classical sports car feeling. For the first time, two M Drive buttons have been fitted as standard for the driver to call up the ideal car set-up for the situation at hand. High-quality, precisely finished materials, generous levels of space and the extensive range of equipment fitted as standard generate the premium ambience - laced with cutting-edge luxury - of a BMW 5-Series model. Added to which, customers can also give their car the personal touch, since virtually the full range of options for the BMW 5-Series Saloon are also available for the M5, including a host of driver assistance systems and mobility services from BMW ConnectedDrive.

Body design: hallmark M design elements make a genuine contribution to meeting technical requirements.

The design of the body faithfully showcases the standout characteristics of the new BMW M5. The dynamic proportions and stylishly authoritative appearance of the BMW 5-Series Saloon has been further enhanced by the addition of M-specific design features. The carefully selected modifications are geared precisely to meeting the technical demands of the car, making them a central element of the high-performance Saloon's overall concept. The car's extraordinary potential is highlighted subtly and with impressive authenticity by the distinctive design elements on its front, sides and rear end.

The design of the front apron clearly embodies the supreme power of the new V8 engine. The contour lines of the bonnet converge in a V to the brand's hallmark double-kidney grille. The wide-spread arrangement of the customary M black slats - like the three air intakes in the lower section of the front apron - emphasise the cooling air requirement of the engine behind the grille. The arrangement of the air intakes over various levels creates an impressive depth which underlines the dynamic, forward-thrusting appearance of the Saloon.

Dynamically formed intakes ensure precise airflow and optimum cooling.

The functional significance of the forward-projecting central aperture is emphasised by the width of the car, which spreads out towards the road surface, and the protruding form of the contour lines. The two side air intakes, meanwhile, have a dynamically curving form. Positioned far to the outer edges of the car, they emphasise its wide track and fill the spaces in the front apron the BMW 5-Series Saloon normally reserved for foglamps. At the lower edge of the front end, air-channelling flaps developed on the race track ensure optimised aerodynamics.

The standard-fitted bi-xenon headlights of the new BMW M5 generate daytime running light with visually unique LED light rings. The indicator lights positioned on the car's outer edges each consist of 10 LED units. LED accent lights cut across the top of the customary BMW twin round headlights to perfect the intent look - both during the day and in night-time driving - characteristic of BMW models.

Prominently flared wheel arches, three-dimensional gills, eye-catching side skirts.

The long wheelbase, set-back passenger compartment and High-gloss Black side window borders clearly accentuate the stretched silhouette of the new BMW M5. Muscular flared wheel arches spotlight the wide track, which helps gives the car its unshakable roadholding and impressive lateral acceleration. Wheels sitting flush with the bodywork and lowered suspension - a gift from the specially tuned chassis - enhance the car's sporting presence when viewed from the side. The model-specific 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design also assist in this regard. The lightweight construction of the optional 20-inch forged rims is highlighted by their five slim double spokes. This design clears a line of sight to the high-performance brakes with six-piston fixed callipers, hinting at the precision with which the driver can adjust the car's handling.

Elsewhere, the front side sections carry a fresh take on the hallmark M gills. The three-dimensional shaping, a wide chrome frame and the free-floating look of the indicator bar, which bears the M logo, give the intakes an extremely deep-set look. The mirror casings are painted in body colour, the mirror base and lower edge in High-gloss Black.

The side skirts of the new BMW M5 also have a design very much of their own. A particularly powerful bulge at the back end of the skirts and a crease rising slightly to the tail divert the eye to the rear wheel arches - and therefore to the driven axle of the high-performance model.

Broad, powerful tail generates optimum airflow.

The design of the tail provides an effective expression of the superior sports performance and supreme roadholding of the new BMW M5. As with the BMW 5-Series Saloon, the focus on the car's width through the predominance of horizontal lines is lent additional emphasis by an athletically formed rear apron. The bespoke rear apron of the M5 provides a fluid transition into the wide wheel arches, drawing even more attention to the drive forces channelled through the rear wheels.

A diffuser integrated into the lower edge of the rear apron provides efficient airflow through the back end of the underfloor section. A signature M feature of the new BMW M5 is the twin-pipe exhaust system, whose tailpipes are positioned wide to either side of the diffuser and have likewise aerodynamically formed surrounds. The subtle gurney-style rear spoiler on the boot lid also aids the car's aerodynamics by providing additional downforce at high speeds, in particular, and therefore contributing to the Saloon's assured handling at all times.

The L-shaped rear lights fit the brand's template, down to the distinctive night-time look. Three LED-powered light strips shape the face of the characteristically homogeneous units, and the direction indicators and braking light are also fed by LED units. The reflectors are arranged immediately below the rear lights. This is higher up within the rear apron than they find themselves on the regular BMW 5-Series Saloon and accentuates the car's powerful, muscular form particularly strongly.

The drive system: high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology sets new standards in output and efficiency.

The new BMW M5 adds a fresh, contemporary and fascinating angle to a variety of distinctive features. This applies to both a vehicle concept now in its fifth generation and the car's engine technology. For the first time, a BMW M5 has a turbocharged engine to thank for its outstanding dynamics. The high-revving V8 unit with M TwinPower Turbo technology lends a whole new intensity to the powerful thrust sustained into the higher rev ranges for which M cars are renowned. The 4.4-litre engine develops top output of 412 kW/560 hp at 6,000 - 7,000 rpm, while its maximum torque of 680 Newton metres (502 lb-ft) is on tap between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm. The rev limiter intervenes at 7,200 rpm. The rev band, which offers extremely dynamic acceleration between the arrival of peak torque and the availability of maximum output, is therefore almost three times as wide as that of the predecessor unit.

The drive unit in the new BMW M5 mobilises the highest output ever generated by a BMW M car, and at the same time provides the most efficient balance yet between performance and fuel consumption. The new engine produces around 10 per cent higher output than its predecessor and torque is up by over 30 per cent. Fuel consumption and CO2, meanwhile, have been cut by more than 30 per cent. This progress in terms of both driving dynamics and efficiency marks the new BMW M5 out as an extremely pioneering interpretation of a premium high-performance saloon.

The driver can use a button on the centre console to adjust the engine's performance characteristics to the demands of the situation and his own individual preferences. "Efficient", "Sport" and "Sport Plus" modes are available.

Racing know-how and unparalleled development expertise: the ideal basis for maximum output and unbeatable efficiency.

The M TwinPower Turbo package of technology developed for the engine powering the new BMW M5 combines design features derived directly from motor racing with innovations spawned by the rigorous implementation of the Efficient Dynamics strategy. It comprises a turbocharging system based on the Twin Scroll Twin Turbo principle, including cross-bank exhaust manifolds, High Precision Injection petrol direct injection and VALVETRONIC variable valve control. Added to which, the engine has an extremely powerful cooling system. This is a combination without parallel worldwide and produces the suitably exclusive performance characteristics you would expect from a BMW M car. The experience is defined by instantaneous responses and extremely impressive torque developed from extremely low revs and maintained into the higher reaches of the engine speed range.

Concentrated power: turbochargers positioned in the V-shaped space between the cylinders, cross-bank exhaust manifold.

The two turbochargers of the eight-cylinder engine are accommodated, along with the catalytic converters, in the V-shaped space between the cylinder banks, which are positioned at a 90-degree angle to one another. This arrangement produces an extremely compact construction and allows model-specific positioning of the intake and exhaust ducts. Their reduced pipe length and larger cross section minimise the pressure losses on the exhaust side of the engine. There is also a smaller distance between the combustion chambers and the catalytic converters, which helps the "cats" reach their optimum operating temperature soon after the engine has started.

BMW's patented and globally unique cross-bank exhaust manifold ensures additional optimisation of the gas flow on the way to the two twin-scroll turbochargers. It is made up of four separate exhaust ducts, which are connected with the exhaust ports of two combustion chambers - one on the left-hand cylinder bank and one on the right. Identical pipe lengths and a combustion chamber arrangement mirroring the firing sequence ensure the gas flows through the exhaust ducts at an even rhythm. In each case, two of the four exhaust gas ducts supply one of the two turbos, having been channelled together shortly before they reach the turbine. The result is a consistent level of pressure acting on the two turbochargers, without any kind of counter-flow. This ensures the turbines respond extremely rapidly and charge pressure remains constant.

The turbochargers developed specially for the engine powering the new BMW M5 stand out with their particularly high level of compressor and turbine efficiency, and deliver maximum charge pressure of 1.5 bar. Their innovative construction principle uses the potential of turbocharging to deliver an efficient output boost of unprecedented potency. The latest version of M TwinPower Turbo technology provides a level of responsiveness, intensity and smoothness in its power delivery unmatched in the segment. The engine's intoxicating thrust gives the new BMW M5 impressive acceleration. The sprint from rest to the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark is all over in 4.4 seconds, and from that point progress continues with barely any let-up. Indeed, the M5 needs just 13.0 seconds to race from 0 - 200 km/h (124 mph). Maximum speed is electronically restricted to 250 km/h (155 mph); if the optional Driver's Package is specified, this limit is raised to 305 km/h (190 mph).

The construction principle of M TwinPower Turbo technology also shapes the development of the V8 engine's soundtrack. The concept of cross-bank exhaust manifolds plays a key role in delivering a multilayered collage of sound. The twin-tailpipe exhaust system of the new BMW M5 runs largely in a straight line and has a large cross section. The two exhaust gas ducts feed into a single muffler, from which the customary M twin tailpipes jut out through the far left and right-hand sides of the rear apron.

Direct injection system uses new type of injectors to ensure precise fuel supply.

The engine developed for the new BMW M5 combines its outstanding power development with an unsurpassed level of efficiency in this output class. Credit for the progress made in this area should go to the other components of the M TwinPower Turbo technology package. High Precision Injection petrol direct injection ensures an extremely precise supply of fuel to the combustion chambers. Injectors positioned centrally between the valves within immediate range of the spark plugs spray the fuel into the combustion chambers with maximum pressure of 200 bar, providing smooth and clean combustion.

Innovative solenoid valve injectors in the new BMW M5 engine use multiple injections to achieve an extremely precise mixture preparation. Plus, the cooling effect of the direct injections enables an extraordinarily high compression ratio for a turbocharged engine, which further increases the efficiency of the V8 engine.

VALVETRONIC gives an additional boost to responsiveness and efficiency.

The M TwinPower technology of the new eight-cylinder engine also includes VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control. This system controls the amount of lift of the intake valves. Throttle losses in the gas cycle are therefore minimised, which has a positive impact on both the efficiency of the powerplant and its torque development. The integration of VALVETRONIC therefore sharpens both the responses and efficiency of the V8 engine in the new BMW M5.

Double-Vanos fully variable camshaft control plays its part both in optimising the engine's efficiency and generating high torque at low engine revs. In addition, the volume-controlled oil pump and a range of other Efficient Dynamics measures deliver an extra boost to efficiency. The new BMW M5 is fitted as standard with Brake Energy Regeneration and an Auto Start-Stop function, which automatically switches off the engine when the car comes to a halt at junctions or in a traffic jam. The extensive use of efficiency-enhancing technology produces fuel consumption and emissions values unmatched in this output class. The new BMW M5 records average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 9.9 litres per 100 kilometres (28.5 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 232 grams per kilometre.

High performance applies to power transfer as well: the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic.

The new BMW M5 is kitted out with a seven-speed double-clutch transmission to ensure that the transfer of engine output to the rear wheels serves up the time-honoured M experience. The M DCT Drivelogic system developed specially for the M5 has been tuned precisely to the performance characteristics of the V8 engine. Both in automated mode (D) and manual (S) it delivers exceptionally fast and clean gear changes. The system's control concept follows similar lines to the sequential M transmission in the predecessor car. Again, no clutch pedal is required for manual gearshift, and the driver can keep his foot on the accelerator during gear changes. The driver uses the model-specific M gear selector to choose between D and S mode, and to engage reverse. The transmission offers a sequential shift pattern for the manual gearshift mode. Alternatively, the driver can also change gear manually using the standard-fitted shift paddles on the steering wheel - the right-hand paddle for upshifts, the left-hand paddle for downshifts. Comfort is further enhanced by the new Low Speed Assistance function, which keeps the car moving at minimal speed through stop-start traffic with a light nudge of the accelerator pedal.

M DCT Drivelogic offers three shift programs in both automated and manual mode. The driver selects his desired mode using the rocker switch positioned immediately behind the shift lever on the centre console. The D1 program is selected automatically when the engine is started, tailoring gear selection to deliver the most efficient possible driving style. D2 mode supports laid-back cruising with gear changes carried out according to engine revs and load. And, to promote a sporty driving style laced with dynamic acceleration, shift times in D3 mode are set up to delay gear changes until the engine has climbed higher up the rev range.

The driver can also adapt the shift characteristics to his requirements in manual mode. S1 mode generates extremely comfortable and jolt-free gear changes. In S2 the gear changes are completed noticeably faster and accompanied by significant shift jolts at higher revs. And S3 is the one to choose for maximum dynamics; it enables even sportier gear changes and also brings the Launch Control function into play. When the stability control system is switched off, Launch Control allows the driver to achieve the maximum acceleration force possible from a standstill - as permitted by the condition of the road - by pressing the accelerator down with maximum force. Each gear change takes place automatically and at the optimum engine speed.

Innovation for unbeatable traction in dynamic driving situations: the Active M Differential.

BMW M cars are equipped with a specially developed differential for the rear axle to allow the driver to enjoy the benefits of rear-wheel drive to the full - in the form of the sharpest possible driving dynamics. A variable locking function splits engine power between the right and left rear wheel to generate maximum traction. Another innovation in this area that is fitted in the new BMW M5 ensures even more precise distribution of drive according to the situation at hand; the Active M Differential optimises stability with the help of an electronically controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential, which intervenes at an early stage to prevent wheel spin.

The rear axle's multi-plate limited-slip differential works with extremely high precision and speed. Its control unit is connected with the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system via FlexRay high-speed data transfer technology and constantly cross-checks the data collected by its sensors with the feedback from DSC. It then uses this information to calculate the locking force required to deliver optimum traction and stability. The data recorded by DSC sensors is also passed on if the stability control system is switched off. The locking force within the differential can be set between 0 and 100 per cent. The Anti-lock Braking System retains full functionality in all situations.

In addition to its own data and that provided by DSC, the Active M Differential's control unit also takes into account the position of the accelerator pedal, the rotational speed of the wheels and the car's yaw rate. Every driving situation is therefore precisely analysed and an impending loss of traction on one side of the car identified at an early stage. The degree of lock is adjusted as required within a fraction of a second, enabling wheel spin to be prevented on slippery surfaces, in instances where the right and left rear wheel have widely differing friction coefficients, in tight bends and when changing direction extremely dynamically. Optimising traction in this way also provides unbeatable driving stability in challenging conditions and allows impressively dynamic acceleration out of corners. Plus, the Active M Differential also counteracts - to great effect - a loss of traction during double lane changes at high speed and a tendency to understeer under sudden load alterations during dynamic cornering.

M-specific chassis, electronically controlled dampers, M Dynamic Mode.

The new BMW M5 comes with bespoke chassis technology whose construction and set-up are defined by extensive expertise from the race track. Specially developed axle kinematics and newly developed components boasting impressive strength and minimised weight meet both the requirements of everyday road driving and the specialised demands of track use. Chassis mountings using large panels at the front and rear axle ensures dynamic forces are passed evenly through to the body. The chassis transfers the potential wrapped up in the engine's remarkable output onto the asphalt with assurance and a finely-honed sense of dynamic drama. All of which allows the BMW M5 to set new benchmarks in its segment not only in terms of sprinting power and elasticity, but also lateral acceleration, handling properties and braking performance. As with every BMW M car, the engineers carried out the fine-tuning that underpins the perfect M experience during extensive testing on the N rburgring's Nordschleife circuit.

The new BMW M5 is equipped as standard with electronically controlled dampers. Dynamic Damper Control uses electrohydraulic damping force adjustment to provide a set-up suited to the driving situation or the wishes of the driver. The damper settings can be adjusted at the touch of a button. In "Comfort" mode the dampers respond adaptively to the condition of the road surface and the driver's style. "Sport" mode activates a noticeably stiffer damper set-up, while "Sport Plus" allows further stiffening of the suspension to achieve maximum longitudinal and lateral acceleration in ultra-dynamic driving situations.

At the touch of a button the driver can also select from three settings for the Servotronic speed-sensitive power steering system, which has been fitted in the M5 in an M-specific configuration. "Comfort" mode requires only a small amount of steering force when parking or manoeuvring, but still provides the brand's hallmark direction-changing precision at higher speeds. "Sport" ensures the driver enjoys more intensive feedback across all speed ranges. This steps up another notch in "Sport Plus". With this mode selected, the driver is called on to use greater force with the steering wheel.

In addition to applying brake impulses and reducing engine output to stabilise the car, the DSC system in the new BMW M5 also employs the services of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Brake Assistant, Fading Compensation, Brake Drying function and Start-Off Assistant. M Dynamic Mode (MDM) can be activated to override the basic setting by pressing the DSC button on the centre console. This mode generates the familiar M self-steering response by raising the intervention thresholds of DSC. "DSC Off" mode can also be activated at the touch of a button.

High-performance compound brakes, extensive safety equipment, extremely impressive power-to-weight ratio.

The high-performance braking system of the new BMW M5 guarantees outstanding stopping power. The further development of the remarkable compound construction has resulted in further optimised braking performance - resisting fade even under heavy loads - and an enviable degree of feel. The six-piston fixed-calliper brakes are radially bolted to the pivot bearing. The M-specific light-alloy wheels for the new BMW M5 come in 19-inch format as standard and are fitted with 265/40 R19 tyres at the front and 295/40 R19 items at the rear. 20-inch forged M light-alloy wheels can be ordered as an option.

Hallmark M handling and occupant protection both benefit from the extraordinary strength of the BMW M5 body structure. Incredibly durable load-bearing structures and large, precisely defined deformation zones keep the forces released in a collision away from the extremely stiff passenger compartment. The safety equipment fitted as standard in the new BMW M5 includes front and side airbags, side curtain head airbags for both rows of seats, three-point inertia reel seat belts on all seats, front belt force limiters and belt tensioners, and ISOFIX child seat attachments in the rear.

An intelligent mix of materials containing a high proportion of high-tensile and ultra-high-tensile steels, as well as aluminium, help to minimise the car's weight. Like the bonnet and front side sections, the doors of the new BMW M5 are also made from aluminium. With a power-to-weight ratio of 3.3 kg (approx. 7lb)/hp, the high-performance Saloon represents a substantial step forwards from its predecessor in this area as well.

Interior and controls: sports car cockpit with premium ambience.

The interior of the new BMW M5 brings together an inimitable combination of the driver-oriented cockpit design of a sports car, the spaciousness of a prestige saloon and the luxurious feel of a premium model. Bespoke M sports seats, fine-grain Merino leather upholstery with extended features, door sills with "M5" lettering, an M driver's footrest, exclusive Aluminium Trace interior trim strips and the BMW Individual roof liner in Anthracite are all standard equipment, as is the iDrive control system with an up to 10.2-inch Control Display. This screen is centrally positioned and, like the controls in the central section of the instrument panel, tilted slightly towards the driver.

The instrument cluster with black-panel-technology includes classical circular instruments in traditional BMW M car style, with red needles and white illumination, as well as model-specific displays and the M logo in the rev counter. The shift program currently selected and gear engaged are shown in the centre of the instrument cluster. Feedback from all the drive and chassis settings selected at the touch a button is also displayed in the cockpit.

Two M Drive buttons now included to activate the individually configured set-up options.

The multifunction buttons on the M leather steering wheel in the new BMW M5 allow the driver, among other things, to operate the cruise control system and the audio and telephone functions. On the left-hand steering wheel spoke the driver will now find two M Drive buttons, which he can use to call up a pre-configured set-up for the car. For example, the driver can save a sporty configuration using the "M1" button and a comfort-biased set-up via the "M2" button. The set-up selected will remain activated until the driver either cancels it by pressing the button again or switches to another M Drive setting. Once the system has been switched off - as when the engine is started - it reverts to a default configuration focusing on efficiency and ride comfort.

The M Drive system in the new BMW M5 allows the driver to adjust no fewer than six parameters: the engine management, the responses of the Servotronic steering system, the M DCT Drivelogic shift program, the DSC mode, the responses of Dynamic Damper Control and the information in the Head-Up Display. The desired settings for the engine, chassis systems and Head-Up Display can be configured in any combination via the iDrive menu. Plus, the driver can also save the current set-up configuration selected earlier using the buttons on the centre console by holding down one of the two M Drive buttons for a few seconds. For safety reasons, a set-up involving the DSC settings "MDM" or "DSC Off" requires confirmation from the driver - by pressing the M Drive button again - before it can be activated. The set-up configuration selected is shown by a clear symbol displayed in the instrument cluster.

Head-Up Display with M-specific information comes as standard.

The M Drive configuration also includes the information shown on the Head-Up Display, which comes as standard on the new BMW M5 and projects important information onto the windscreen directly in the driver's field of vision. The full spectrum of colours is used to display graphics and symbols, and this all-colour capability means road sign symbols can be reproduced extremely realistically. In addition to a digital speed readout and tips from the optional Speed Limit Info, the M-specific version of the Head-Up Display also shows the gear currently engaged and a multicolour rev counter symbol, complete with Shift Lights.

As well as the Head-Up Display, numerous other driver assistance systems and mobility services available from BMW ConnectedDrive are also unique in the segment occupied by the new BMW M5. The selection of optionally available systems includes Park Distance Control, a rear view camera, High-Beam Assistant, Speed Limit Info, the Lane Change Warning System, the Lane Departure Warning System, Surround View and BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition. Plus, innovative technologies optimise the integration of the Apple iPhone and other smartphones, as well as music players, including the use of internet-based services. The apps option allows iPhone owners to receive Web Radio stations, for example, and display Facebook and Twitter posts on the on-board monitor. The likewise new real-time traffic information function keeps the driver supplied with impressively accurate traffic bulletins and diversion recommendations.

The new BMW M5 also comes as standard with four-zone automatic climate control, heated seats and electric seat adjustment including memory function for the driver and front passenger, xenon light with Adaptive Headlights, ambient light, an alarm system and the BMW Professional radio including CD player, AUX-IN socket and six speakers. In addition, almost all of the items of optional equipment available for the BMW 5-Series Saloon can be ordered as an option. Among the highlights are the Navigation system Professional with a hard disk for storing maps and personal music collections, the electrically operated glass roof, the M multifunction seats, the active seats, active seat ventilation, Comfort Access, the Soft Close Automatic function for the doors and a trailer coupling with electrically pivoting trailer hitch ball.

2011 BMW 335is CoupeClick Thumbnail to download (size 1600 x 1200 pixels)

Confirming what may have been this year's worst-kept auto industry secret, BMW announces the introduction of the BMW 335is Coupe and Convertible, each destined to take a place in history among the line of desirable, often collectible, BMW "s" models. Based on the newly-enhanced BMW 3-Series Coupe and Convertible, the new BMW 335is features the award-winning, twin-turbocharged BMW inline-6 engine, specially tuned and equipped to produce 320 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque from its 3.0-liters. For the first time on a BMW 3-Series in the US, the 7-speed Double Clutch Transmission (DCT) with Launch Control will be available as an option, in place of the standard 6-speed manual transmission. Equipped with the DCT, the BMW 335is Coupe is capable of 0-60mph acceleration in 5 seconds flat. The BMW 335is will debut at the 2010 New York International Auto Show and arrive at BMW Centers in the spring of 2010. Pricing will begin at $50,525 including Destination for the BMW 335is Coupe, and $59,075 including Destination for the Convertible.

Fundamentally unchanged are the BMW 3-Series' essential attributes of rear-wheel drive, near-perfect 50-50 weight distribution, remarkably precise steering, and skillfully engineered suspension...all of which conspire to produce the uniquely satisfying driving experience that is quintessentially BMW.

The "s" was first seen by North Americans on the original BMW 3-Series, which was imported from 1977-1983. The 1980 BMW 320is included the most desirable 3-Series equipment, including Recaro sport seats, sport steering wheel, halogen high-beams, sunroof, dual color-keyed wing mirrors, anti-sway bars, exterior aerodynamic enhancements, and cross-spoke light-alloy wheels. Later in the 1980s, the BMW 3-Series and 5-Series were each available as "s" models, including the BMW 325es, 325is, and 535is. Again, sticking with a proven formula, BMW gave the "s" models enhanced aerodynamics, sport suspension, on-board computer (OBC) and Check Control, sport leather seats, and other features. Early last decade, the original BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) was available twice as an "s" model, first as the BMW X5 4.6is and then as the BMW X5 4.8is. The "s" model SAVs brought even further enhancement in the form of increased power from their modified V-8 engines.

As the newest "s" model, therefore, the 2011 BMW 335is follows its lineage by offering stunning looks, more power, and a raft of functional, performance-inspired equipment tailored to suit the enthusiast driver.

More Power

The BMW 335is is powered by BMW's widely-acclaimed "N54" twin-turbocharged inline-6, which displaces 3.0-liters and features all-aluminum construction. The engine further benefits from BMW's High Precision direct fuel injection, Double-VANOS stepless valve timing, and advanced Digital Motor Electronics (DME) engine control system. For the BMW 335is Coupe and Convertible, the engine has a heavy-duty cooling system and has received special software that allows the N54 to sustain a nominal output of 320 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Through the use of temporary overboost in certain circumstances, the engine will produce up to 370 lb-ft of torque (horsepower remains 320) for even better performance during overtaking and other high-load / high-speed maneuvers.

The increased power and torque naturally place higher loads on the engine componentry, so a number of items, including the cooling system of the BMW 335is, have been upgraded accordingly. An additional radiator has been added behind the left-side front air intake, along with a more powerful electric cooling fan. An oil cooler is fitted opposite the second radiator, on the right side. The front fascia of each model has been shaped with large openings to allow improved air flow to the coolers, and special emphasis was placed on the BMW 335is Coupe's higher probability of being used for spirited driving. As a result, the BMW 335is Coupe has traded the Convertible's foglights for the largest possible air openings, which help result in a substantial increase in effective cooling capacity over the original BMW 335i Coupe. These measures were taken specifically to ensure that the BMW 335is will provide constant, reliable power under even the harshest driving circumstances. Engine mounts have also been replaced with stiffer units to help minimize deflection under very high G-loads.

Performance and Specifications

Top speed of the BMW 335is will be electronically limited to 150 mph. The BMW 335is Coupe performs 0-60 mph runs in 5.0 seconds with the optional 7-speed DCT and 5.1 seconds with the manual 6-speed. The BMW 335is Convertible, meanwhile, requires only 5.2 seconds for the 0-60 run whether equipped with the 6-speed manual or optional 7-speed DCT. Maximum rated horsepower of 320 is achieved at 5900 rpm, and nominal peak torque output of 332 lb-ft is achieved from 1500 - 5000 rpm. Temporary peak torque of 370 lb-ft is available under special high-load circumstances, such as when overtaking at higher speeds. The drag coefficient (Cd) is 0.30 for the BMW 335is Coupe and 0.31 for the BMW 335is Convertible. EPA fuel efficiency estimates will be available closer to the on-sale date for each model and are expected to closely follow the figures of the standard BMW 335i Coupe and Convertible, respectively. The vented brake rotors are the same sizes as on the standard BMW 335i Coupe and Convertible, measuring 13.7" front and 13.2" rear.

Sensational Sounds

Appropriately, the BMW 335is Coupe and Convertible have been fitted with a new sport exhaust system to enhance the sound and responsiveness of each model. Without being intrusive, the emotionally-charged character of the free flowing exhaust system has been specially tuned to focus on the low frequency "rumble" sounds that are most enjoyed with the windows (or the Convertible's retractable hard top) lowered. The system is designed to minimize the restriction of exhaust gas flow, which is always important for a turbocharged powerplant.

Unique Exterior and Interior Design Features

The new BMW 335is models are based on the latest BMW 3-Series Coupe and Convertible, which have themselves each been enhanced for the 2011 model year. Of those updates, the BMW 335is models retain the new high-depth LED tail lights, new xenon adaptive headlights with LED-lighted corona rings, and the new hood which integrates with a freshened BMW kidney grille. Above and beyond those updates, the BMW 335is will receive new M Sport enhancements which include comprehensive M aerodynamic elements, kidney grille surrounds in high gloss black, Shadowline black window trim, wing mirror caps in high gloss black, and standard 18" light alloy wheels in ferric grey color. 19" light alloy M wheels are optional. Exclusive "335is" badges adorn each front fender and the rear of the trunklid.

The M Sport front and rear fascias and side skirts have been carefully sculpted to provide the best air management benefits along with a healthy dose of style. Starting at the front, the new air dam of the BMW 335is Coupe is equipped with large openings meant to feed as much air as possible to the upgraded cooling system. Horizontal black planes are placed within each opening to properly guide the air into the ducts. On the BMW 335is Convertible, front foglights are retained in place of the black horizontal guide planes. As with any M Sport aerodynamic component, the air dam works to reduce or negate lift at high speeds.

At rear, the form-follows-function design philosophy continues with a new rear diffuser intended to properly manage the high-velocity air flow exiting from underneath the vehicle. As the most aggressive ever fitted to a BMW 3-Series, the body-color rear diffuser features a black inset portion with vertical strakes that help maintain air velocity, reduce pressure, and therefore help prevent "lift" over the rear axle.

Inside, the M Sport upgrades continue with an M Sport steering wheel, sport seats, anthracite headliner, M door sills, M driver's footrest, M gearshift knob, and high-quality stainless steel sport pedals. The instrument cluster features dials in dark grey with a "335is" badge on the tachometer face. The passenger side dashboard also features an exclusive "335is" badge on the standard aluminum glacier silver dark trim.

Nissan GT-R Track Edition

Posted on 02.7.2013 14:00 by
Simona

Just when we thought the 2014 Nissan GT-R couldn’t get any better, Nissan proved us wrong. The company announced the launch of the new GT-R Track Edition today at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, which will join the 2014 GT-R lineup.

While the new Track Edition delivers the same output level as the standard GT-R, the updates made to the suspension, the addition of new fuel injectors and an oil pan baffle make it far better than the standard version.

In order to distinguish it from the standard version, the new Track Edition includes an array of modifications to the interior and exterior on top of the suspension improvements.

Deliveries for the new GT-R Track Edition will begin in May 2013. It will be limited to only 150 units.

So, is the new Track Edition worth whatever price hike that Nissan will place on it?

2013 mazda cx 5 sema show concepts

mazda cx 5 pictures

Mazda will debut three takes on the CX-5 crossover at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. The automaker has released three sketches to give enthusiasts a hint of what to expect at the event. The crossover is a sharp-looking vehicle in stock form, so it isn’t surprising that Mazda decided to steer clear of massive body kits and stick with mild cosmetic modifications.

CX-5 180

The first of the three CX-5s, dubbed the “180,” has a distinctly West Coast flavor. Meant to showcase the CX-5′s sporty spirit, the crossover is fitted with a roof rack to carry a surfboard or skis. The body is wrapped in a stylized topographical map of California’s Big Bear Lake and Point Dume state beach.

CX-5 Dempsey

Actor and motorsports enthusiast Patrick Dempsey races a Mazda RX-8, but the CX-5 Dempsey drives is designed to allow him to get off the track and enjoy a bit of road biking.

A Thule cargo box sits on the roof of the CX-5 Dempsey, while a sleek road bicycle rides on the back. The all-wheel-drive crossover is powered by Mazda’s Skyactiv-D 2.2-liter diesel engine.

CX-5 Urban

Whereas the other two takes on the CX-5 emphasize its outdoor-loving character, the CX-5 Urban is designed to operate within city limits. Its most striking feature is its paint job. While the car is swathed in the matte finish so commonly found at SEMA, the surface is divided into jagged triangular patches with distinct colors and patterns.

Mazda says this surface treatment lends “overwhelming stealth” to the vehicle-odd for a paint scheme designed to be eye-catching. The CX-5′s grille, wheels and headlights are accented in a color Mazda calls “ore.”

2013 Toyota Avalon and Avalon Hybrid

2013 Toyota Avalon HV Edition SEMA

In the mid-’90s, Toyota created the Avalon to offer Detroit’s full-size sedan buyers a Japanese alternative. The big Avalon, available with a front bench seat and column shift, was quite a departure for a Japanese automaker known for small cars with bucket seating. And the strategy proved quite successful with more than 70,000 sales in its first full model year.

Over the Avalon’s near two decades in the market, the owner’s age has crept to the late 60s and sales have slid to 25,000 for the outgoing model. Toyota executives realized that senior citizens are valuable customers, but the Avalon was quickly becoming the last vehicle purchase for many buyers. In contrast, the formerly sedate Buick had loosened its tie and was attracting a younger audience.

So the all-new Avalon enters the market with two missions. Its first duty is to become the brand’s flagship, a sedan that elicits right-brain passion along with left-brain logic. And while older buyers will consider younger cars, the new Avalon cannot sacrifice form for function. Toyota’s team managed to succeed with both objectives.

In addition to its dramatic fastback styling, Toyota has added an Avalon Hybrid version with 40 mpg combined fuel economy as its premium model. With today’s high fuel prices, along with tough new EPA mileage rules on the horizon, Toyota is betting efficiency will trump raw performance. And with its hybrid performance tweaked to equal mid-size gasoline rivals, the strategy looks like a winner.

What is it like to drive?

Although spacious inside, the Avalon has shrunk a bit from an EPA measured full-size to a large mid-size and shed 111 pounds. So the 3.5-liter V6 with its 268 hp and 248 ft-lb of torque moves the sedan nicely, especially with a new Sport mode to adjust the throttle mapping and tighten the steering. The revised six-speed transmission has a quick-locking torque converter, and paddle shifters on the Touring and Limited models include rev-matching.

A dramatic increase in chassis rigidity allowed a thorough rework of the front MacPherson and rear dual-link suspension. Inverse-wound coil springs, larger stabilizer bars and revised bushings keep the Avalon flat without harshness. While it’s a front-drive sedan, torque steer is only noticeable at low speeds and hard throttle.

There’s enough sport potential in the new Avalon that Toyota commissioned three custom concepts for the SEMA show. A TRD Edition supercharges the V6, lowers and stiffens the suspension, and bolts on 19-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport rubber. DUB slams the Avalon even further, shoehorns 22-inch wheels and tires into every millimeter of well space and fills the trunk with “bone-shaking” sound. And a hybrid HV concept gives the gas sipper a TRD look.

Do I want one?

Toyota asserts that more than 100,000 “hand raisers” have expressed interest in the new Avalon from its introduction in New York last spring, so making its 70,000 sales goal is not a reach. Compared to the outgoing 2012 model, it’s more than an update: The Avalon has staked out flagship status with features and finish that make it luxury level.

Unlike the former Avalon, this is a sedan that an enthusiast can press Sport, paddle shift over mountain roads and scare the whole family. Or select Eco and cruise in comfort, complete with JBL stereo.

The closer is the Avalon Hybrid, a big car with decent performance and sub-compact fuel economy. That’s a trend we’ll likely see more of in the near future.

2013 Buick Regal GS

2013 Buick Regal GS

We picked up this striking red Regal GS on a dark and cold winter night at the airport parking lot. As I climbed in and pushed the start button with my foot on the brake there was no response. I realized, with great enthusiasm, that I actually needed to depress the clutch. Yes, it had a manual transmission. Surprise.

By the time I pulled out of the parking spot and up to the shack where my pretty blonde awaited I already had a favorable impression of the Regal's ergonomics as well. The exceptionally light and smooth take-up of the clutch, light but precise steering, instantly understood controls, a shifter that felt mechanical rather than cable-actuated, and a fat, fistful of a steering wheel impressed me right off the bat. Great ergonomics.

As she climbed into the passenger seat she gushed about the visual drama of the GS's front view, though she had only seen it in the funky light of the parking lot. The Crystal Red paint along with the gaping, vertical vents in the fascia and the profile of the car made a fine impression, indeed. With bold styling cues and a recognizable design language, anyone who is modestly knowledgeable about cars will not mistake it for anything other than a Buick.

Based on the Opel Invecta, a mid-size sporty sedan by GM of Europe, the Regal GS fits into the Buick lineup between the compact Verano and the luxurious, larger LaCrosse. With front-wheel drive only, it comes with a variety of powertrains including a mild hybrid, and in a variety of trim levels with prices beginning at just about 29 grand. Unlike some earlier Opel products that were poorly Americanized and imported for Saturn, this Opel is well thought out. I found no niggles with the Regal to annoy me, as I had with the Saturns.

GS means "Gran Sport," and that means performance. That moniker goes way back in Buick history to the earliest muscle cars of the 1960s. One of the few cars worth a second look made in the late 1980s and early 1990s by GM was the Gran Sport of its day, with a 240 horsepower version of the trusty 3.8-liter V6. GM respects that heritage with this new GS.

Interior design is laid out conventionally and is reasonably well thought out - a good thing, by the way, since we hate to search for functions that ought to be easily accessed. That was a central problem with some other Opal-based products. Fit, finish and materials are good but not exceptional in this price range. The swooping style conveys a gratifyingly artful impression without being garish.

We found the Regal GS roomy and comfortable inside. The sport front seats have plenty of lateral support allowing us to thrash the car through corners without sliding our butts out of the seats. Our only rear seat passengers this week, not big people by any means, said they were comfortable back there as well. Cargo area is a decent 14.25 cubic feet and interior volume is about average for this size of car. The low, sporty roof line will have some taller folks bumping their heads getting into and out of both front and rear seats.

Our new Oshawa, Ontario-built Regal GS is powered by GM's 2.0-liter Ecotec turbo 4-cylinder with an impressive 270 horsepower and even more impressive 295 pound-feet or torque good for a 0-to-60 time of just under 7 seconds. It really felt even faster than that to me. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard with the GS and is optional in the lesser turbo models. The EPA rates this combination at 19 mpg in the city, 27 on the highway and 22 combined on regular fuel. With an 18.5-gallon fuel tank we have a cruising range well over 500 miles.

With a base price of $34,980 it comes with navigation, Brembo brakes, sport-tuned suspension, special exterior and interior trim elements, sport front seats, and optional 20-inch wheels shod with performance tires. Our test car came with a power sunroof for $1,000, an upgraded audio and navigation system with 7-inch touch screen at $895, the aforementioned 20-inch polished alloy wheels costing $700 and the custom red paint job for $325. Bottom line on our sticker, with the $885 destination charge was $38,785. Now, compare that to other sporty small sedans in that same price range and you'll find many contenders. So compare carefully.

GM's new car warranty covers the Regal GS for 4 years or 50,000 miles and the powertrain for 6 years or 70,000 miles.

This Regal GS in one of the most gratifying GM products since the Holden-based Pontiac G-8. As we try to downsize our luxury and sport sedans while keeping the ambiance and image they were meant to purvey, the Regal GS meets those expectations well.

And, by the way, we hear that a station wagon version of the Regal may be on the way soon. So, stay tuned.

Jeep And Ram Highlight American Heroes in Super Bowl Ads

Jeep And Ram Highlight American Heroes in Super Bowl Ads

By Mark McNabb on Monday, February 4th, 2013

Jeep and Ram showed a large and powerful presence in Sunday's Super Bowl with two commercials highlighting two groups of American heroes.

Jeep pulled at heartstrings with a two minute commercial with narrations by Oprah Winfrey entitled "Whole Again." The spot showed service men and women returning home from duty and the emotional reunitings of loved ones. Jeep says the ad displays their continued support of our troops and the USO.

Ram not only pulled on heartstrings, but bootstraps as well with their "So God Made A Farmer" commercial. The trucks themselves play a relatively small role in the two-minute video showing hard-working American farmers and their families as the famous late radio broadcaster Paul Harvey narrates a script he recorded some 30 years prior.

The airing of Ram's "Farmer" commercial kicks off a yearlong collaboration with the National FFA Organization to raise awareness of the importance of the American farmer.

While Ram's project is multi-layered and planned for a 12-month time frame, Jeep's support of the troops and USO has no end date. Check out both commercials below.
