Audi R8 Final Edition

New

We already know Audi is working on a brand-new R8 supercar, but that doesn't mean that Audi is neglecting the current model. As we get closer to the 2015 model year, the current R8's last year on the market, we have yet another mystery on a our hands. Our skilled spy photographers stationed in Germany have spotted yet a new camouflaged R8 prototype, and we're dead sure it has nothing to do with the upcoming second-generation model. Audi is definitely up to something, and judging by these photos it is going to be big.

You might be tempted to believe Audi is planning to retire the current R8 with some sort of special edition model in the vein of the LMX, but the spy shots you're about to see below suggest something meaner that the standard R8 is underway. By the looks of it, Audi is bringing some of its race technolgoy to the streets. Read on to find out more about this new prototype being tested on public roads.

Audi to produce John Olsson Camo Edition A4 Avant

Audi to produce John Olsson Camo Edition A4 Avant

By Christian Moe on Tuesday, February 25th, 2014

If you have never heard of Jon Olsson, you have likely heard of his cars. Olsson is an X Games gold medalist in freestyle skiing, and he is the man that orders all those funny supercars with ski boxes you see around the internet. With Lamborghinis and GT-Rs and everything in between, Olsson has quite a collection of roofbox-supercar combos. One of his favorite brands however is Audi, and now they are teaming up to create 50 special edition cars.

The cars that are to be sold are all 2.0 TDI Quattro versions of the A4 Avant, and the exterior styling is made to match Olssons own RS6 Avant and Lamborghini Gallardo. That means a large geometric shaped arctic camo theme. Each car is equipped with extra goodies like sports seats, Xenon headlamps, the S-Line body kit, and of course, a matching roof box.

If you want one of these machines, you better start booking some plane tickets quickly. There will only be 50 of these special A4 Avants made, and they will only be sold in Olsson’s home country of Switzerland.

Audi R8 Biturbo by xXx Performance

Posted on 11.28.2013 12:00 by Simona

A few days ago xXx Performance was unveiling a very cool tuning kit based on the Lamborghini Gallardo. Now is time for another awesome update, this time based on the Audi R8, the 4.2 V-8 version. As with the previous kit, the new R8 Biturbo received a series of upgrades to both the exterior and the interior, but most of the job was made under the hood.

For the engine upgrades the tuner offers three different stages, with power increased to 590 horsepower and 486 pound-feet of torque in stage 1; 640 horsepower and 497 pound-feet in stage 2 and an astonishing 707 horsepower and 596 pound-feet of torque in stage 3. In all three stages xXx Performance is offering a biturbo system, ECU remap and a new exhaust system. The sequential R-tronic 6-gear manual transmission was also upgraded with a special transmission software that is adapted to the new situations.

The most powerful version goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, from 0 to 124 mph in 10.6 seconds and from 0 to 186 mph in 15.8 seconds. Top speed goes up to 194 mph.

Audi R8 V10 Biturbo GT by MTM

Do you remember the Audi R8 V10 Biturbo unveiled by MTM back in 2011? For the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the tuner revised this package and came up with a new R8 V10 Biturbo GT package, that unlike the previous package which delivered a total of 777 horsepower, the new GT package delivers a total of 802 horsepower at 6,980 rpm and 892 Nm (657 pound-feet) of torque between 2,750 and 6,280 rpm.

This extra horsepower pushes the R8 to a top speed in excess of 360 km/h (223 mph). In terms of acceleration, the R8 V10 Biturbo GT hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in just 10.6 seconds and 300 km/h (186 mph) in only 26 seconds.

While the exterior remains pretty much unchanged, the new GT package also received a three-way adjustable special chassis and a new set of wheels measuring 9-by-20 inches up front and 12.5-by-20 inches out back. These 20-inch BIMOTO wheels are wrapped up in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup rubber.

Dragging the R8 V10 Biturbo GT to a halt are 380-by-34 mm (14.96-by-1.33-inch) dimpled rotors squeezed by eight-piston calipers. Getting this monster through the twist is a set of MTM coilovers by KW with adjustable damping.

Still, if you are interested in acquiring this package, you will have to pay an impressive 450,000 - about $600,000 at the current exchange rates.

If you thought the Audi R8 China Edition was rare, then you'll be shocked to know that there's a limited-edition model that's even rarer than that. This is the Audi R8 V10 Limited Edition and, as its name suggests, Audi is only building a select number of these babies — 30 in all — for the Chinese market. To distinguish itself from the rest of the R8s out there, including the aforementioned China Edition, Audi decided to dress up the R8 Limited Edition in a unique Nordic Gold paint finish that, on looks alone, can make a serious case as a permanent color option for the R8.

Aesthetic modifications are also abound for this limited-run model, highlighted by front and rear air intakes and outlets, lightweight tailpipes, and a radiator grille that has been finished in matte black. The dress up continues with the front and rear slats. Additionally, the rear bumper, and the radiator grille surround and bars all sport a matte-titanium-grey finish. The front spoiler, side blades, fixed rear wing and the enlarged diffuser have been upgraded to carbon matte.

Inside, the R8 Limited Edition features sports bucket seats and headlining, both of which have been dressed with black Alcantara with contrasting stitching and piping, and the knee pad now comes in shark skin black with its own contrast stitching. Carbon matte, or at least inlays of it, was also used inside, particularly the A-pillar and the door pulls. To assert the limited-edition nature of this R8, the aluminum gear knob comes with a limited edition number, ranging from 1 to 33 with the numbers 4, 14, and 24 excluded from the list. Why, you ask? The number "4" equates to bad mojo for the Chinese.

Audi China has priced the R8 Limited Edition at 2,628,000 yuan, which is around $420,000 based on current exchange rates, an amount that affluent and passionate Chinese auto enthusiasts won't have trouble shelling out.

Not one to be left out of all the fun at the 2012 Essen Motor Show, ABT Sportsline decided to join in on all the festivities by bringing a number of aftermarket programs, including one for the Audi A5 Coupe.

Visually, the AS5 Coupe is treated to a host of new aerodynamic components, which add a sportier look to the car and provide enhanced performance capabilities. From the front lip spoiler to the side skirts, the fender inserts, the rear skirt, the rear spoiler and the quad-pipe exhaust system, each of these new components are fitted to the AS5 with the goal of giving the sports car an edgier look and feel to it. Add the lowered suspension springs, coil-over kit and a set of CR or DR alloy wheels, and you have a sports coupe that's primed and ready to throw down against the field.

At the heart of ABT Sportsline's modification program is the series of performance enhancements given to the entire engine lineup. For starters, the 1.8-liter TFSI model received an output boost to 211 horsepower — up from the 170 ponies the model carried in standard guise. Then there's the 2.0 TFSI, which sees its output rise from 211 horsepower all the way up to 270 horsepower.

Not one to be left out in the cold, the AS5 2.0-liter Turbodiesel also got into the mix, as is receives a power bump from 177 horsepower to 205 horsepower. The 3.0-liter diesel variant rounds out the diesel engines by jumping from its standard 245 horsepower to a more thrilling 300 horsepower.

Finally, the most powerful AS5 of them all... The 3.0-liter gasoline engine, now packs a whopping 380 horsepower, a stout 108-horsepower increase from the standard 272 ponies.

Audi Considering R10 Diesel Supercar

1.

When Audi unveiled the R8 V12 TDI concept at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, everyone was impressed by its imposing design and hoped that the diesel supercar would find its way into Audi's lineup. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and the only V12 TDI model that remains is the Q7 SUV, which is only in the European market.

It looks like the idea isn't completely off the table yet, as rumors are afloat that Audi is indeed working on a Le Mans-inspired hybrid-diesel supercar that will sit atop its lineup. Audi insiders have suggested that this new model could be called R10 and that it may be offered as a road-going version of the R18 e-Tron quattro.

While no details have been offered on the R10's diesel engine, one thing is for sure; it won't be the V-12, as it was deemed too heavy and its 700-plus pound-feet of torque was a little much for Audi's existing line of transmissions.

Stay tuned for more details on this possible R10 supercar!

Audi has been developing the R8 E-tron in order to revolutionize the electric sports car market and now they are moving on the next phase of development by teaming up with Bosch and several institutes at the RWTH Aachen University. Together, they have developed a technology platform that is a major advance for electric mobility.

The first prototype developed on this platform is the F12 e performance - a car that looks exactly like an R8 on the outside, but is purely powered by electricity. The research car is powered by three electric motors that can be controlled separately: one located at the front axle for slow driving and two at the rear axle for higher speeds. The three electric motors develop a total of 204 HP and 405 lb-ft. of torque.

The electric motors take their power from a switchable high-voltage electrical system made from two batteries, one with 144 volts and the other with 216 volts. The voltage is provided by a DC/DC converter: 200 volts for part load and 440 volts for increased power demand.

The prototype offers four basic drive functions - Park, Reverse, Neutral and Drive - all of which can be controlled via a tablet computer that can be removed from the center console.

Audi is focused on revolutionizing the electric segment and we wouldn’t doubt if their hard work eventually pays off with a solid R8 featuring the best of electric mobility technology. As of right now, the F12 is just a research vehicle, but Audi’s electric future is a definite highlight in the industry.
