Wears a custom bodykit

Subaru has taken the wraps off a Rallycross-spec 2015 WRX STI, following an announcement made earlier this week.

It turns out the mysterious car Subaru teased several days ago is in fact a 2015 WRX STI designed to take part in the Global RallyCross Championship. The car is the result of a joint project between Subaru Rally Team USA, RedBull Global Rallycross and NBC and was created to promote this year's RedBull GRC season which will kick off on May 18.

The vehicle has received a custom wide body kit together with rally-like mirrors and roof scoop, a bespoke STI carbon fiber spoiler and Method Race Wheels wrapped around in Yokohama tires. Behind the wheel of the full-race version due this fall are going to be Bucky Lasek and Sverre Isachsen.

Interestingly, Subaru says a stage rally version is in the works and will be unveiled later this year with Travis Pastrana and David Higgins as pilots for the Subaru Rally Team USA in the Rally America Championship.
