Mercedes E63 AMG V8 Supercars Racer

The racecars headlining Australia’s V8 Supercar Series are starting to take shape and over the weekend we saw another one of the cars get its own public unveiling.

Erebus Motorsport took the time to present their prized racer for the series: the E63 AMG V8 Supercars Racecar.

The car itself holds a historical component to it because, as a racecar built in Australia, it’s the first time that an AMG racer was manufactured outside of Germany. Erebus Motorsports is bringing three unique models of the E63 AMG V8 Supercar Series to the racing season, each coming with a unique livery. Of note though is the overall look of the racecars, all three of which are pretty impressive in their own right.

Mechanically, the E63 AMG V8 Supercar Racecar has to subject itself to "Car of the Future" regulations, which means that engine displacement should not exceed 5 liters, rpm are limited between 7,000 and 7,500, and most importantly, horsepower shouldn’t go past 650 ponies.

In the case of the E63 AMG V8 Supercar Series, the team had to "make do" with a modified version of the V8 engine on the SLS AMG. Considering that the standard SLS powertrain includes a 6.3-liter V8, it likely took a significant amount of tweaking just to keep in line with the series regulations.

Expect the Mercedes E63 AMG V8 Supercar Racecars to compete with the likes of the Holden Commodore V8 and the Nissan Altima V8 when Australia’s V8 Supercar Series kicks off next month.

Subaru BRZ Race Car by Possum Bourne Motor Sport

The 2012 Australian Motor Show has been a pleasant surprise to us, largely because of the number of models that made their debuts Down Under.

One vehicle that caught our eye comes from Subaru and what appears to be a partnership with New Zealand-based racing outfit Possum Bourne Motor Sport involving the BRZ.

The BRZ Race Car was customized to be a club-level race car and comes in three track-ready packages. For the entry-level package, the features include a number of carbon fiber parts, including the mirror caps and the door panels, a full-on roll cage kit with Recaro motorsport seats, Sabelt six-point harness, and fuel system modifications.

The second package comes with more added components. First, there’s the new set of 18" Enkei lightweight wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R motorsport tires. From there, PBMS also added driveline and suspension modifications, highlighted by a new Cusco height and damper adjustable coil over suspension system. There’s also a brake package that includes AP front and rear rotors and calipers and an STI handbrake, as well as an electrical kit that comes with wiring and circuit breakers. Last but not least, lightweight battery Recaro winged-HANS seats round out the upscale package for the BRZ race car.

Then there’s the third option, which includes a complete performance parts package, including engine and gearbox enhancements, all of which catered to the customer’s unique requirements.

Talking about the car, Subaru Australia Managing Director, Nick Senior, said: "We're delighted to display the PBMS BRZ motorsport project car. This car will take the BRZ thrill to a whole new level for those that want some serious trackwork."

"From day one we have always imagined the BRZ would appeal to the 'weekend warriors' - people who enjoy club level motorsport activities. PBMS has developed packages that will appeal to these enthusiasts."

Ford Performance Racing Falcon V8

Australia’s very own Ford supercar, the mighty Falcon V8, has been getting quite the run in the spotlight lately and turns out, there’s another version ready to take some names.

This new version is the Ford Performance Racing Falcon V8, which is set to compete in the V8 Supercars series in Australia. It has been dressed in the team’s Ecoboost motorsport livery and will be driven by both Mark Winterbottom and Will Davidson for the 2013 season.

While the car is still heavy in the testing and development phase, the team is already looking into making all the necessary adjustments leading up to its racing debut next season.

"While there is still a lot of work to be done to understand the new car ahead of next season, our ability to have the car on track running what we hope will be the final specification of many parts will give us the best chance of starting 2013 at the head of the field." said FPR Team Principal Tim Edwards.

Expect to see and hear more about the Ford Performance Racing Falcon V8 when the 2013 season of the V8 Supercars series in Australia draws near.
