A few days ago, we reported that BMW is preparing to add a new supercar to its lineup just in time to celebrate its centenary. The model was previously rumored to carry the M1 name, but new details suggest that instead BMW will opt for the M8 name - an indication that the supercar will share the carbon-fiber and aluminum chassis with the upcoming BMW i8.

While the i8 is a hybrid supercar, the next M8 will adopt a standard twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an output of about 600 horsepower. Also, BMW will try to keep the weight as low as possible - expect something close to 3000 lbs. As a result, the sprint from 0 to 60 mph will be made in about 3 seconds, while top speed will go up to about 200 mph.

Today, we have created a rendering for the M8, and as you probably expected, its design will be inspired by the M1 Hommage concept car unveiled at the 2008 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
