Cadillac plotting small crossover for 2019 launch; CT6 confirmed for March 31 reveal

Part of a $12 billion investment in new models

Cadillac has reiterated its plans to introduce a small crossover which will be positioned below the mid-size SRX.

Speaking to reporters at the Washington Auto Show, Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen said they don't have an exact launch date for the small crossover but he estimates it's at least four years away so don't expect it to hit dealerships before 2019. Details about the car are not available at this point but it will obviously cost less than the SRX which is priced at $37,605.

The new model is part of a massive $12 billion investment in no less than eight cars and one of them will be an entry-level sedan which will be positioned below the ATS. It’s scheduled to come out in 2017 and compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi A3 Sedan.

In related news, de Nysschen also confirmed the flagship CT6 model will be unveiled in March 31 and go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Exclusive Motoring has prepared a tuning program for the Porsche 911 Carrera.

While the German manufacturer is busy working on a facelift for the model, tuners from Exclusive Motoring have introduced some design improvements for it. Their new kit includes 911 GT3 bumpers, gloss black painted roof and engine cover, as well as 911 Carrera badges for the lower part of the doors.

The biggest addition is a set of new 21- and 22-inch COR alloy wheels, finished in gloss red with yellow brake calipers.

Audi rules out sub A3 models in the U.S.

The entry-level luxury segment is booming but Audi has ruled out models below the A3 in the United States.

In an interview with Wards Auto, Audi Sales and Marketing boss Luca de Meo said "You won’t see us go down-market more." This means we shouldn't expect to see either the A1 or the Q1 in the United States.

While de Meo ruled out going down market, he confirmed we can expect more high-end models. He declined to go into specifics but the company is "working heavily" on the Q8 and is rumored to be developing a range-topping A9 which could draw inspiration from the Prologue concept.

The Mercedes A-Class has been on the market for a couple of years, so the company is preparing a minor facelift for their entry-level hatchback.

Recently caught by our spy photographers, this lightly camouflaged prototype suggests we can expect a minor refreshing that includes a new front bumper and modified lighting units. The model should also get an updated interior with revised switchgear and a larger infotainment system display.

Engine options will likely carryover from the facelifted B-Class, so expect a variety of petrol and diesel options including everything from a 1.5-liter (1461cc) four-cylinder with 90 PS (66 kW) to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that develops 211 PS (155 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque.

Chinese automaker Jiangling Motors has counterfeited the design of the Volkswagen Amarok.

The saying "old habits die hard" seems to be true as Chinese automakers have done it again, this time they copied the Volkswagen Amarok. The vehicle you are looking at is called Jiangling T7 and will enter production next month with an Isuzu-sourced 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine producing 100 bhp (75 kW) and a 2.2-liter gasoline engine rated at 110 bhp (82 kW).

Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) has been around for quite a while as the company was founded in 1952 and they mostly sell trucks. However, they also have a passenger car joint venture with Changan (Chang'an Automobile Group) which commercializes another controversial model, the Range Rover Evoque lookalike Landwind X7.

A valet driver decided to take a customer's white BMW M4 for a ride around the parking lot.

You probably have seen your fair share of BMW M4 reviews but certainly not from a valet driver who keeps making mistake after mistake so it would be more appropriate to just mute the video. He decided to take a client's car through a busy underground parking garage and drive it recklessly but luckily the M4 escaped without any damages.

Certainly not the brightest bulb in the tanning bed, he uploaded the video which shortly proved to be a huge mistake as the guys from Bimmer Post did a little bit of investigation and identified him. They contacted the employer right away and needless to say the guy was sacked immediately and hopefully he won't ever work as a valet driver again.

F-Bomb: The all new Ford GT

Looks like this year's North American International Autoshow is going to be an exciting one. On the first day, both the new Acura NSX and new Ford GT have been unveiled just hours apart. Although both are just as exciting, the NSX reveal has been slightly muted by the fact that we have seen it before. The new Ford GT however, has all eyes on it as a jaw dropping beautiful surprise.

When Ford decided to resurrect the GT nameplate in about a decade ago to pay homage to their legendary GT40 race car that not only beat Ferrari at LeMans, a race that they were dominating, but they also made a flawless 1-2-3 victory in their first race. The previous Ford GT had a very prominent retro-theme to it, with an exterior and interior based off the design of the old GT40. This new one however, is a modern, even futuristic in it's demeanor.

Both the GT40 and the GT were powered by a mid-mounted V8, just as you would expect an American supercar should have. Ford has not decided to continue on this tradition, and stuffed a 3.5-liter "EcoBoost" V6. But fret not, as Ford says that it's good for 600 horsepower. The power from this twin-turbo engine is going to be fed through a twin-clutch seven-speed transmission. Ford has yet to release any other performance numbers, but expect it to be very fast, as it will "exhibit one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any production car". This will be achieved by reducing weight of the car through advanced chassis materials. The GT will be made from a carbon tub with aluminum spaceframe extensions at each end, wrapped in carbon fiber body panels.

In order to help with handling, the new Ford GT will employ fully-active aerodynamics to improve braking and downforce. It will also wear 20-inch wheels wrapped in super sticky custom Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tired. Braking will come courtesy of some large carbon ceramic brakes.

No price has been officially announced for the Ford GT, but expect it to go on sale by sometime next year.

The Alfa Romeo 4C Goes Topless

Alfa Romeo has had a long, fairly unsuccessful past with North America, but they have promised to come back in full force. In keeping their promise, they have just announced the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider at the North American International Autoshow in Detroit.

To refresh, the Alfa Romeo 4C is a small, mid-engined, two passenger sports car made from a carbon fiber monocoque. It is powered by a heavily turbocharged 1.7 liter four cylinder engine, putting out 237 hp and 260lb-ft of torque. That may not sound like much these days, but the 4C is one of the lightest sports cars on the market. Alfa Romeo claims a curb weight of only 2,194 lbs (995 kg). For now, the only transmission offered is a six speed dual clutch gearbox operated via paddles. This means that the 4C will accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mp/h) in 4.5 seconds and will eventually reach a top speed of 258 km/h (160 mp/h).

When making the move from a coupe to a convertible, cars usually gain weight due to the addition of strengthening beams for rigidity purposed. As the car was designed with a convertible version from the get-go, the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider gains only 132 lbs (60kg). The stiff carbon chassis meant that only minor rigidity tweaks were needed. A manually operated soft-top was chosen over a complicated electric powered roof for the 4C for weight saving reasons, and promises to be fairly easy to operate. However, a removable carbon fiber roof will be an additional option later down the line.

The 4C coupe/convertible is the second product, after the gorgeous 2008 8C Compititzione, that Alfa Romeo has sold in North America since they pulled out of the market back in 1995. With it's beautiful, stylish design, the Alfa Romeo 4C looks to be a strong contender in a field with very strong competition.

McLaren has released the first picture of the Sports Series' carbon fiber monocoque.

The company didn't have much to say about the chassis but noted, "A carbon fiber chassis has been at the heart of all McLaren race and road cars since 1981 when we pioneered the technology in Formula1. This DNA will be present in the McLaren Sports Series with its unique carbon chassis – a true McLaren for the sports car enthusiast."

As we have previously reported, the entry-level McLaren Sports Series will debut at the New York Auto Show with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine that develops "well over" 500 bhp (373 kW). It is expected to accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than four seconds before hitting a top speed in excess of 180 mph (290 km/h).

Entry-level sedan will arrive in 2017

Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen has confirmed plans to launch an entry-level sedan and crossover.

Speaking to Autoblog at the North American International Auto Show, de Nysschen said their new entry-level sedan will be introduced in 2017 and slot below the ATS. It will compete with the Audi A3 and Mercedes CLA.

A year later, the company will introduce a compact crossover that will be positioned below their best-selling SRX. Executives have previous said the model would target the Audi Q3 and Mercedes GLA and be about the same size as the Buick Encore.

de Nysschen also reiterated plans to launch a flagship sedan around 2020. Designed to be a "showcase of the brand," the car will go head-to-head with long-wheelbase versions of the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class.

A couple of prototypes of the BMW M2 Coupe have been spied testing in chilly winter conditions.

BMW's test team is hard at work this winter as yesterday our spies spotted the new 7-Series and now we have images with the M2 undergoing some cold weather testing and hiding an obviously wider body with ventilated front fender and beefier brakes. BMW M chief Frank van Meel recently hinted at a 1-Series M Coupe successor and the car he was talking about can be seen in these spy images, the M2 Coupe which will be positioned above the M235i.

Although these prototypes feature a dual exhaust system, the production-ready version will sport a quad arrangement just like all the other fully-fledged M models from BMW. While the M235i packs a 326 HP (240 kW) punch, the M2 will likely get around 380 HP (279 kW) from a turbo six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine so it should be significantly quicker than the lesser model which hits 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 4.8 seconds when configured with the optional eight-speed automatic transmission.

According to the latest rumors, BMW will bring the M2 Coupe to the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September and then will kick off production in November so deliveries should start early 2016.

2015 Opel Corsavan shows its practical side at Brussels Motor Show

Opel has taken the wraps off the 2015 Corsavan at the Brussels Motor Show and they are already accepting orders.

Several months ago Opel introduced a more substantial facelift for the Corsa supermini and now they have applied the same treatment onto its utilitarian sibling, the Corsavan. It's based on the three-door Corsa and has the following dimensions: 4021mm length, 1944mm width and 1479mm height. Compared to its predecessor, the maximum payload has increased by 21 kg to 571 kg while the flat loading area grants a capacity of 920 liters.

It comes as standard with a solid steel floor and half-height steel bulkhead, along with half-height sidewall paneling and load-resistant lashing eyes for stabilizing cargo. At an additional cost, the 2015 Corsavan can get a rubber floor mat, upper load resistant mesh and a four-piece load compartment cover.

Opel is offering a range of frugal 1.4-liter gasoline and 1.3-liter turbodiesel engines which have outputs varying between 70 and 95 HP. The 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex has been revised specifically for the 2015 Corsavan and delivers 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque. It’s a Euro 6-compliant motor equipped with a start/stop system and allows the city delivery van to consume just 3.3 liters / 100 km in the combined cycle, with corresponding CO2 emissions of 88 g/km.

For more money, clients can get the IntelliLink infotainment system packing a seven-inch color touchscreen display along with a generous array of tech goodies such as Opel Eye front camera, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Forward Collision Warning and others as well.

Already available on order, the 2015 Opel Corsavan will hit dealerships in the first quarter of this year.

Mercedes S-class Convertible coming later this year

Mercedes S-Class project manager Martin Hulder has announced plans to introduce the S-Class Convertible later this year.

Speaking to Autocar, Hulder stated "I can confirm that there will be a car for star gazers later in the year."

While he declined to elaborate, previous spy photos have shown the model will be heavily influenced by the S-Class Coupe and feature a retractable soft top. The model will also have an assortment of Cabrio specific modifications including airscarf seats and new controls to operate the roof.

Engine options are expected to carryover and include:

• A twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 with 455 PS (335 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque


• A twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 with 585 PS (430 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque


• A twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 with 630 PS (463 kW) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque

 

Toyota Aygo X-Wave convertible introduced

Toyota has announced plans to offer a retractable "x-wave" roof on the Aygo.

Available on five-door x-pression models, the black canvas roof is electrically operated and costs £895 (including VAT) in the United Kingdom.

Besides the retractable roof, the model features LED-infused headlights, gloss black accents and 15-inch alloy wheels. There's also air conditioning, a rearview camera and an x-touch infotainment system.

Power is provided by a 1.0-liter VVT three-cylinder engine that develops 69 bhp (51 kW) and 95 Nm (70 lb-ft) of torque.

The deluge of Frankfurt Motor Show news continues as Chevrolet has revealed their lineup for the upcoming auto show.

First and foremost, the company will introduce a Spark Bubble Edition with bubble decals and white 15-inch alloy wheels. The model also has leatherette seats and color-coordinated trim.

Next up, the 2014 Aveo gains a standard rearview camera (on models equipped with MyLink infotainment system) and new mirrors with integrated LED turn signals on higher-end variants.

The 2014 Cruze offers a new MyLink infotainment system with GPS navigation, voice recognition technology and text-to-speech capability. Higher-end variants also have Side Blind Zone Alert and new mirrors with integrated LED turn signals. The model will also be offered with a new 1.7-liter diesel engine that produces 110 hp (81 kW) and has CO2 emissions of 99 g/km.

Moving on to the Orlando, there's restyled wheels and new mirrors with integrated LED turn signals. The MPV also gains Side Blind Spot Alert, Advanced Parking Aid and a new MyLink infotainment system with a seven-inch display. Last but not least, the turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder petrol engine can now be connected to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2014 Malibu, on the other hand, gains an upgraded 2.0-liter diesel engine with stop/start technology on manual variants. It enables the model to average 4.7 L/100 km (50 mpg US / 60.1 mpg UK) and have CO2 emissions of 125 g/km.

Lastly, the turbocharged 1.4-liter version of the Trax will be offered with front-wheel drive. When paired to a six-speed manual transmission, the model accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds, averages 6.0 L/100km (39.2 mpg US / 47 mpg UK) and has CO2 emissions of 139 g/km.

Toyota has quietly introduced the Vitz GRMN Turbo in Japan.

Previewed by a concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon, the production model is a three-door hatchback that has been equipped with an aggressive front bumper, revised side skirts and a massive rear diffuser. The car also has LED-infused headlights, a sports exhaust system, GRMN badging and 17-inch BBS aluminum wheels. It will be available exclusively in Black Mica or Super White II.

Interior changes are limited but include sports seats, revised instrumentation and a three-spoke steering wheel with red contrast stitching. We can also see special floor mats and alloy pedals.

Under the hood, the 1.5-liter engine has been equipped with a turbocharger which enables it to produce 152 HP (112 kW) and 206 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected exclusively to a five-speed manual transmission.

Rounding out the changes are a sport-tuned suspension and high-performance brakes.

Production will be limited to 200 units and pricing starts at ¥2,700,000 ($27,910 / €20,985 / £18,015). The company will begin accepting orders on August 25th and the cars will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
