BMW X3 facelift at Geneva Motor Show
New engines, exterior and interior features
The facelifted BMW X3 has been officially unveiled during the Geneva Motor Show. The compact SUV now adopts the new design language of the German brand with more agressive X5-style front end.
The mid-life facelift model is only one centimetre longer than its predecessor and features new headlights, reshaped grille and LED indicators. Both bumpers are also redesigned with sleeker and slightly simplified lines.
On the inside it is hard to find any noticable changes. Some of the covering materials have been replaced, while sat nav, heated front seats and an automatic tailgate come as standard for the entry level trims.
The big news is the renewed, more economical and efficient range of engines. There is a new generation of 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engines. The X3 xDrive20d now produces 190 HP (140 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 6 HP (5 kW) and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
The new unit is most efficient and economical in the X3 sDrive18d with only 124g/km of CO2 emissions. This version has a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine that develops 150 HP (110 kW) and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque and is equiped with low rolling resistance tires and rear-wheel drive. The average fuel consumption is 5.0 L/100km.
The flagship X3 is the xDrive35d modification with a 3.0-liter diesel engine. It generates 313 HP and 630 Nm of torque. The top X3 covers the 0-62mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in 5.3 seconds, reaching a top speed of 152mph (245 km/h).
The 2015 BMW X3 will go on sale in the United States from June and pricing starts at $39,325 (including a $925 destination & handling fee).
