F1 has emerged from its summer slumber, but the big talking point at Spa-Francorchamps will be a 16-year-old 'kid' who doesn't even have a license to drive a road car.
"Because he lives in Belgium, he cannot start lessons until about six months before his 18th birthday," manager Raymond Vermeulen told the German newspaper Bild.
He is referring, of course, to Max Verstappen, the 16-and-a-half year old who has been signed up by Toro Rosso to debut next year and make history as F1's youngest ever driver.
But Verstappen, the son of former F1 driver Jos and female karting sensation Sophie Kumpen, is unfazed, particularly as a top-three finish in the FIA's top F3 category will ensure he receives the most important document - a F1 super license.
"I think the biggest step I had was karting to formula three," he told the BBC this week. "I think F3 to formula one will be a smaller step.
"The cars are really safe. I think it's more dangerous to bike through a big city than race in an F1 car."
He told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf: "The biggest adjustment will be the life around it all - the attention, the full agenda, the travelling. But I'm pretty relaxed.
"I have never had nerves or stage fright, and I won't now."
Verstappen may not be worried, but his age and inexperience may make some of his 2015 rivals nervous.
"What the senior drivers will think about it? Don't ask them, because they won't like it," admitted F1 broadcaster Tony Jardine.
Verstappen said: "These are guys I only know from television, and some of them my dad even raced against.
"I'm thinking about being in the driver's briefing and saying to Fernando Alonso, 'Can you move over, please?' But once I'm in the car I'm not afraid of anyone."
Toro Rosso gave another teenager his F1 debut this year, and Daniil Kvyat is now regarded as a new star of the sport.
"Everybody has the right to an opinion about my age," said Verstappen. "Of course its beneficial if you have more experience, but you only gain that from driving the car.
"At Red Bull and Toro Rosso there will be plenty of people to help me."
John Watson, another broadcaster and a former driver, sides with Verstappen in the new era of cars that are easier to drive and unprecedented safety conditions.
"The age aspect is no longer as compelling as it was in my generation," he told the Mirror. "They can put the kids with talent in simulators and help make the technical side second nature."
And as far as F1 legend Gerhard Berger is concerned, Verstappen is a cut above.
"To switch from karting straight into formula 3 and go straight to the front is something I've never seen," said the Austrian, who is now the FIA's junior series chief.
"Max stands out," Berger told Auto Bild.
Sports physio and performance expert Camiel van Druten told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf: "Does it matter whether you're 17 or 19? Max is strong and mature."
But all that doesn't mean the speed of Max's rise to the pinnacle of motor racing hasn't given father Jos - whose first F1 teammate was the great Michael Schumacher - pause for thought.
"The past few weeks has sometimes felt unreal," he admitted. "In the middle of negotiations, I was constantly asking myself -- 'Is it the right decision? Is it too early?'.
"Of course he is missing experience, but it was a well thought out decision. The bottom line is that I am the one who knows Max best. People need to understand that he is extremely adaptable and he learns extremely quickly.
"And formula one is different now to what it was twenty years ago, with all the advanced simulators for example."
Just before Red Bull signed on the dotted line, Verstappen was put at the wheel of a much more powerful Formula Renault 3.5 car.
"Straight away he went like hell," said Jos. "He will also know how to drive a formula one car.
"Red Bull is also the benchmark when it comes to building young talent. This is especially true for motor sports."
Verstappen snr said he will travel to all or most of the grands prix next year, but only to be there for Max rather than play an overly active role.
"I will not interfere with the team or the car," Jos promised. "I will just be there for when he needs me.
"I've done everything for my son and now it feels as though I have to let go. I think with Red Bull and Toro Rosso, he is in the right hands."
Infiniti will unveil the long wheel base version of the Q50 at the Chengdu Motor Show which begins at the end of the month.
The China only model has been dubbed the Q50L and is the first time an Infiniti has been produced in China. It will be 48mm (19”) longer than the standard model giving it an overall length of 4852mm (191”) and wheelbase stretched to 2898mm (114”).
Power will be provided by a newly developed 2.0-litre four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 208hp and 320Nm of torque. A 7-speed automatic transmission system featuring a manual shift mode compliments the unit.
Additional features include a new steer-by-wire Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS) system, Infiniti's touch-screen InTouch HCI system, Active Lane Control (ALC) and a 14-speaker Studio on Wheels audio system by Bose.
While European and North American markets will be not be treated to the Q50L, they will of course get the updated Q70L that was unveiled at the New York Auto Show in April.
According to a recent report, over next five years Infiniti’s portfolio will be expanded by five new models.
Speaking to Autoblog, Michael Bartsch, vice president of Infiniti Americas, confirmed the lineup will expand by 60 percent. It will grow to include eight sedans and coupes and five SUVs and crossovers. No specific names and models were disclosed, but Bartsch said the company will be getting an EV and the recently confirmed QX30 small crossover.
Furthermore, he added that the manufacturer is committed to offering a performance division that can be used on “products across all model lines”. He didn’t reveal specific details, but commented that if the company were to build something like a production Q30, there will be a performance version.
A 2015/2016 Cadillac ATS-V prototype has been caught flexing its muscles on the Nurburgring. This latest round of testing shows the model doing some high speed testing.
The sedan variant that has been caught here wears its customary black and white camouflage livery which is designed to hide the huge air vents, redesigned front grille and power bulge on the hood. In comparison to its standard ATS sibling, the ATS-V also gets larger alloy wheels, an improved braking system, quad exhaust system as well as a rear diffuser and a big rear spoiler
Beneath that said power bulge lies what is believed to be a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produces roughly 425bhp (317kW).
Look for the 2015/2016 ATS-V official unveiling at either the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, or the Detroit Auto Show in January 2015.
When Proton and DRB-HICOM announced Jean-Marc Gales would become the new CEO of Lotus, they hinted at a "transformation plan." Now, we're starting to learn more about it.
Citing company insiders, Utusan is reporting Gales presented a business plan which called for a new crossover and sedan. Little is known about the models but the meeting was reportedly attended by Proton CEO Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah and Lotus COO Aslam Farikullah - among others.
While the purists may howl, Lotus Engineering introduced a crossover prototype eight years ago. More recently, Lotus introduced the Eterne four-door coupe at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. It was scheduled to go into production in 2015 but that plan was scrapped when Proton was sold to DRB-Hicom and Dany Bahar was fired as Lotus CEO.
Mercedes is still rolling out new S-Class variants but details are starting to emerge about the next-generation model which will reportedly be launched in 2018.
In an interview with Auto Express, Mercedes’ chief interior designer Jan Kaul confirmed the company is working on gesture controls which would enable drivers to access certain functions by using hand gestures. Kaul declined to go into specifics but said we'll see gesture recognition technology "soon."
The designer also revealed Mercedes could integrate the infotainment system into the digital instrument cluster. Audi introduced a similar system on the 2015 TT but Kaul said "We only do things because they are right for us, not because our rivals do."
Kaul also revealed we can expect to see single-piece trim fittings and lightweight one-piece seats in the future.
The 2014 BMWi8 Concours d'Elegance Edition will be distinguished by a unique paint scheme and interior treatment as well as other features that will make it unlike any other BMW i8 in the world. The BMW i8 Concours d'Elegance Edition will be sold by Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, during the annual Pebble Beach Auctions at Pebble Beach on Saturday, August 16. Proceeds of the sale will go to the Pebble Beach Company Foundation and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

Rumors about the Mercedes AMG GT started awhile back and for a short period of time, it was believed that the new SLS AMG would be called the SLC. Obviously, this is not the case, but hopes for an AMG GT are still not lost as Mercedes will indeed offer the AMG GT after the SLS AMG makes its exit.
The AMG GT will actually be the baby brother of the SLS and will attack the likes of the Porsche 911. Compared to the SLS, the future AMG GT will be lighter and slimmer with the use of plenty of carbon fiber and aluminum. In a shocking twist of SLS insult, the AMG GT will be devoid of gullwing doors.
The less dramatic specifications of the Mercedes AMG GT have also given way to a cheaper price tag compared to its brother. Expect to pay somewhere under 100,000 (about $145,000 at the current exchange rates).

Ever have nightmares about handing some shady valet character the keys to your ride? Apparently Corvette engineers suffer long, sleepless nights from the thought of their baby being joy-ridden around the parking garage. Well worry no more, as the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray now comes with an upgraded Valet Mode.
Sure, other high performance and luxury nameplates come with a valet mode and the 2014 Stingray did as well, but the 2015 Vette now offers owners some extra reassurance. The valet system now ties in with the Performance Data Recorder to record not only vehicle speed, engine revs and other vital stats, but also records audio and HD video of the driving event while you're away.
Besides keeping watch over the car, Valet Mode still locks all interior storage spaces and restricts access to the infotainment system via a simple four-digit PIN entered to begin and end the Valet Mode session. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to limit the Corvette's performance capabilities, so valet employees still have access to the 6.2-liter's 460 horsepower, 465 pound-feet of torque, and its 190-mph top speed. It also doesn't prevent that rookie driver from burning out your clutch while trying to squeeze your Vette between an SUV and minivan in the parking garage.
Check out the humorous video above Chevrolet created to showcase the 2015 Stingray's new feature.

Our spies have already caught the 2015 / 2016 BMW X1 on numerous occasions but new details are starting to emerge about the entry-level crossover.
According to Automotive News Europe, the model will be smaller than its predecessor when it is launched in June 2016. The crossover is also expected to feature ruggedized styling which will help it look "less like a small station wagon."
While the model will be shorter, the publication is reporting there will be a long-wheelbase variant for China, Russia and the United States. The long-wheelbase model will reportedly have a third row of seats as well as additional luggage capacity.
Engines will likely carryover from the 2-Series Active Tourer so expect choices to include:
There could also be a plug-in hybrid variant with a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. This could enable the model to have a combined output of 190 PS (140 kW) and an electric-only range of roughly 30 km (19 miles)
Bentley has announced plans to stage the North American debut of the Continental GT3-R at Pebble Beach.
Drawing inspiration from the Continental GT3 race car, the road-going GT3-R features a Glacier White exterior with green graphics. The model also has an aerodynamic body kit, gloss black accents and 21-inch lightweight alloy wheels.
Moving on to the interior, there's leather / Alcantara sport seats, carbon fiber trim and green accents. The rear seat has also been removed as part of weight saving regimen which helps the car weigh 220 lbs (99.7 kg) less than the standard model.
Power is provided by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces 572 bhp (426 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system which enables the coupe to run from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds before topping out at 170 mph (273 km/h).
Only 99 Continental GT3-Rs will be headed to the United States and pricing starts at $337,000. The company is currently accepting orders and the first deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter of 2015.
Development work continues on the 2016 BMW M2 as our spies have caught a new prototype undergoing testing.
Despite looking like previous prototypes, this is the first one we've seen with a four-tailpipe exhaust system. The car also has an aggressive front bumper, ventilated front fenders and high-performance brakes - among other things.
BMW has been tight-lipped about specifications but the M2 is expected to use a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that develops approximately 380 PS (279 kW). This is 54 PS (39 kW) more than the M235i Coupe which can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in as little as 4.8 seconds with the optional eight-speed automatic transmission.
According to a recent report, Hyundai could kill the Genesis Coupe.
Details are limited but Automotive News says the car's future depends on the long-rumored entry-level sports sedan that would battle the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class. That particular model is codenamed IK (or RK) and it hasn't been green-lighted as of yet.
The company is considering a variety of options for both cars and one of them reportedly involves killing off the Genesis Coupe to resurrect it as a coupe variant of the sports sedan. This, in theory, would give the company a BMW 4-Series and Mercedes C-Class Coupe competitor.
Nothing is set in stone but the current Genesis Coupe is expected to stick around for two or three years while the company finalizes their plan.
Both models are equipped with BMW's award winning TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 engine (N55) featuring Valvetronic throttle-less intake technology, direct injection and a single twin-scroll turbocharger. For the 135is, the engine has been tuned to increase peak horsepower to 320 hp (+20 hp increase) and 317 lb-ft of torque (+17 lb.ft) while maintaining the same emissions level and MPG ratings of the 135i. A Performance exhaust system complements the increased engine performance and provides a sporty exhaust tone. The engine cooling system has been upgraded to match the additional performance output by adding a larger, and more powerful radiator fan and an auxiliary radiator.
Both BMW 135is models will be offered with either a standard 6-Speed manual transmission or an optional 7-Speed Double Clutch Transmission.
The 135is is equipped with sport suspension incorporating an aluminum double-pivot front suspension and a five-link fully independent rear suspension in lightweight steel.
The exterior of the new 135is Coupe / Convertible will be clearly identified by exclusive 18" wheels, unique high-gloss black kidney grill, black mirror caps and special exterior badges in additional to the standard M Sport Package components. Interior highlights include stainless steel pedals, special interior badges and optional black leather seats with blue stitching for the standard sport seats.
The BMW135is Coupe and Convertible are available to order now and are scheduled to arrive in BMW Center showrooms this fall.

Using a version of Ferrari's HY-KERS Kinetic Energy Recovery System, the most recent iteration of which was seen at the Beijing Motor Show this year, the new car will be Ferrari's next generation flagship and carry the name Enzo.
"We have a complete new model range brimming with technological innovations," Di Montezemolo recently said. "At the end of the year we'll also be unveiling the new Enzo, a limited series model and our first ever hybrid car."
Sporting a mid-mounted V12 gasoline engine - not front mounted like the 599 Fiorano HY-KERS test mule shown above - seven-speed transmission and dual electric motors the new Ferrari flagship promises to deliver a whopping 920 horsepower.
As other hi-performance vehicle manufacturers are finding out, hybridization is becoming like the new turbo or super charging. Instead of force-feeding more fuel for more power, electric motors elegantly create more power without the need for any fuel. Ferrari's two motors in this car will consist of a main unit mounted behind the gearbox and auxiliary power unit on the side of the engine.
In order to achieve the best possible power-to-weight-ratio, the new Enzo will feature extensive use of carbon fiber in its construction and as a result, likely dizzying levels of acceleration, braking and handling.here have been rumors circulating for some time that Ferrari was looking to introduce a hybrid. Now, Chairman Luca Di Montezemolo has indeed confirmed that such a car is on its way, scheduled for introduction by the end of this year.

The Taurus SHO was always powered by an Ecoboost 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 with 365 hp and 475 Nm, and there's no change in engine or figures for this facelifted version. There were rumours that this SHO will get bumped to 400 horses, but considering the firepower it already has, perhaps that's unnecessary. A six-speed SelectShift auto with steering paddles does transmission duties.
So no power up, but the SHO does get a new optional Performance Package. A 3.16:1 final drive ratio will improve initial acceleration, and you'll get new dampers and specific springs. Also, the EPS steering has been tuned and the ESC has a track mode with "true off" (zero intervention), performance brakes and "track-tuned calipers".
Looks wise, the SHO is set apart by a black mesh grille flanked by series-specific HID headlamps. A fender-mounted scallop with SHO badge and 19-inch wheels can be seen on the sides (20-inch machined and painted wheels are optional). Black wing mirrors (heated with memory and puddle lamps) and a decklid spoiler are the other changes. The cabin is in full black.
Here's a finding that Ford is keen to share. About half of 2010 SHO customers had not previously considered buying a Ford, and frequently it's high-end sedans (examples given are 3 and 5-Series BMWs and Acura TLs) that are traded in. Interesting.
