Dodge Durango R/T

As versatile and spacious as today's crossovers and SUVs are, there really aren't many to get excited about until you start factoring in some of the high-performance (and high-dollar) German offerings. The key exception, of course, is the 2015 Dodge Durango R/T, which combines a meaner exterior and sport-inspired interior with the size and performance advantages that the Durango already holds over its competition. For 2015, Dodge adds a handful of new updates to the R/T trim level, and while the changes are relatively minor, they help to set this trim apart from the rest of the Durango lineup.

Dodge essentially created the three-row, mid-size SUV market in 1998 when it introduced the Dakota-based Durango, and today, the Dodge Durango continues to bridge the gap between smaller mid-size crossovers and full-size SUVs.

A Closer Look At The McLaren 570S With EVO: Video

From the sexy Nissan Maxima to the lightweight and powerful Porsche Boxster Spyder, the 2015 New York Auto hosted debuts for many outstanding vehicles. The event was of great importance for automakers the world over, but seemingly it's McLaren that made the most of it by opening a new chapter in its short history as a road-car manufacturer. This new chapter kicked off with the 570S Coupe, which marks many first for the British company. It's not just the brand's smallest sports car yet, but also the most affordable, bringing McLaren's race-bred technology to a wider audience. What's more, it might just be strongest competitor the Porsche 911 Turbo has had in years.

Crafted around the same carbon-fiber, MonoCell II chassis used in the P1 and 650S, the 570S Coupe borrows many of its styling features from its bigger and more powerful siblings, while also sporting unique cues of its own. Developed with a focus on day-to-day usability, it features a well-appointed interior. Power is provided by McLaren's award-winning, twin-turbo, 3.8-liter V-8 detuned to generate 562 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. But despite being the least-powerful road-going McLaren in history, its low curb weight enables it to deliver a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 428 horses per ton.

We've already seen it in photos, but now it's time to have a closer look at McLaren's sports car on the New York Auto Show floor, courtesy of EVO.

Supercharged Camaro Z/28 Makes Serious Power: Video

Chevrolet designed the Z/28 version of the Camaro to be a lightweight track boss with word-class credentials. Still, some feel its 505-horsepower, naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V-8 is underpowered, especially compared to its 580-horsepower ZL1 brother. Though the Z/28 has been on the market for a relatively short time, owners are already beginning to pour on the power.

Redline Motorsports in South Florida has already shown what's possible. The speed shop threw on an Edelbrock supercharger, high-flow injectors, a performance camshaft complete with beefier valvetrain, and a full exhaust with two-inch diameter headers. Topping the build off is a full tune of the Z/28's ECU, making all the added parts work together.

The result was a full 197 horsepower and 208 pound-feet of torque added to the Camaro's baseline dyno run. That translates into an impressive 652 horsepower and 628 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. No doubt its 0-60 mph time will drop below the 4.0 seconds it takes a stock Z/28.

Jay Leno Reviews ICON Derelict Buick Super Convertible: Video

Mostly known for turning classic SUVs and trucks such as the Toyota FJ, the Ford Bronco, and the Chevrolet 3100 into modern off-roaders or hot rods, ICON also spends time building rat rod-like vehicles as part of its Derelicts line. The Los Angeles shop buys "as found" vintage car bodies and mounts them on modern chassis and drivetrains, while adding various creature comforts. The latest tarnished jewel to join ICON's Derelicts lineup is a 1948 Buick Super Convertible, and the final product, a rusty sleeper that can smoke most modern-day BMWs and Porsches, just arrived in Jay Leno's famous garage for a full review.

ICON used a new Art Morrison chassis complete with an independent front suspension and a four-link rear suspension, as well as JRI shocks and a 20-to-1 rack and pinion power steering system. But the most spectacular feature of this Derelict is under its hood, where ICON dropped a Corvette ZR1-sourced, supercharged, 6.2-liter LS9 V-8 engine. The mill cranks out 638 horsepower and 604 pound-feet of torque through a Supermatic 4L85E automatic and a set of Z-rated, BF Goodrich G-Force tires. No wonder this massive convertible can do burnouts now. Check it out in detail in Leno's 18-minute review above.

Alonso upbeat after happy Ferrari moves on

Alonso upbeat after happy Ferrari moves on

Fernando Alonso (ESP) / XPB Fernando Alonso insists his first race with McLaren-Honda went better than expected.

Earlier in Malaysia, the Spaniard told reporters he would prefer not to let the world know what his real thoughts were when he watched on television the woeful progress of his new team at the Melbourne opener.

At the same time, his former team Ferrari is riding a wave of rapid progress, with Alonso's 2015 replacement Sebastian Vettel winning in Malaysia.

The Maranello marque, it seems, does not miss the 33-year-old at all.

"The fact is," team boss Maurizio Arrivabene told Welt am Sonntag newspaper, "Sebastian has won four world titles and Fernando two.

"And even if some people say that Sebastian was always sitting in the best car on the grid, he still delivered this great achievement. It reminds me of Michael Schumacher."

Ferrari is not looking back on its recently-departed era of turmoil, where the politics of blame was rife.

"I immediately realised," said newcomer Arrivabene, "that this team needed to come together. There could no longer be this mutual blame for problems and mistakes."

It could have been an opaque reference to Alonso, who now finds himself at McLaren and in an awkward situation regarding the Barcelona test crash contradictions.

Not only that, his MP4-30 is slow.

But after Malaysia, despite his retirement from the race, Alonso sounded upbeat.

"I was fighting with a Red Bull and a Toro Rosso before stopping, after overtaking (Sergio) Perez," he is quoted by El Confidencial newspaper.

"Three days ago, that was unthinkable. It was a bit of a surprise to be racing with a group of other cars," said Alonso.

"I don't know what happened exactly with the car but if we had a normal winter surely we would have found these small faults."

Also outwardly happy is team boss Ron Dennis, who said: "If we can keep taking steps as we did between Australia and Malaysia, we can have a good end of the season."

He is quoted by El Mundo Deportivo is saying McLaren cannot regret its decision to swap a customer Mercedes engine for a struggling works Honda, "because if you want to win championships, you have to have a great manufacturer behind you".

Finally, Alonso said that in the wake of his concussion and long recovery from his Barcelona crash, he felt healthy throughout the Malaysian weekend.

"I am a little tired after this heat," he revealed, "but it would not have been a problem to finish the race.

"I do need to train more in these days before China, because sitting on the couch for so long was not the best preparation."

LaFerrari does donuts in an aircraft hangar [video]

Having fun with a 963 HP supercar

A LaFerrari painted in Rosso Fiorano was filmed doing
several donuts in an airport hangar.

It happened a few days ago at the Bruntingthorpe Aerodome
in UK during the SupercarDriver's Secret Meet event where the driver of a LaFerrari
decided to have some fun by doing a series of donuts and leaving some serious
tire marks in the process.

Doing donuts (and burnouts) in car that has
a combined output of 963 HP (708 kW) is not something that you get to see every
day, especially since owners of these high-priced automobiles drive them rarely
and when they do, they usually are very careful not to damage their prized possessions.

This is one of the only 499 LaFerraris
planned by the prancing horse company which recently contacted all owners to
inform them about an obligatory
fuel
tank upgrade
.

Honda S1000 Type R digitally imagined

Honda S1000 Type R digitally imagined

Honda S1000 Type R render / X-Tomi Design

Could get more than 127 bhp

Hungarian independent artist X-Tomi Design decided to render
a hotter version of the Honda
S660.

There is a report backing up this speculative render as
Australian media revealed last week Honda does indeed plan a more potent
version of the Japan-only S660 which will be commercialized worldwide. Apparently
it will drop the tiny 660cc engine and adopt a larger 1.0-liter turbo delivering
in excess of 126 bhp (95 kW) to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual.

The model in question is believed to receive the S1000
moniker and will come with a wider and more aggressive body as depicted in this
render. An engineer working at Honda has already confirmed the engine bay is
large enough to accommodate a larger 1.0-liter while another one said they can
widen the rear axle and tread by 60mm which would accommodate chunkier tires for more grip to match the added oomph.

If everything goes according to plan, the Honda S1000
(without Type R suffix) will be out sometime next year.

Mercedes C63 AMG pricing announced (US)

Mercedes C63 AMG pricing announced (US)

2015 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Goes on sale next month

Mercedes has announced the 2015 C63 AMG will be priced from $63,900 when it goes on sale in the United States next month.

While the model costs $1,900 than the BMW M3, it comes nicely equipped with LED headlights, heated front seats and 18-inch alloy wheels.  The car also has a Burmester Surround Sound system, KEYLESS-GO, Collision Prevention Assist Plus and ATTENTION ASSIST.  Other notable highlights include a limited slip rear differential and an AMG Adaptive Suspension with three different modes.

Power is provided by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that develops 469 bhp (349 kW) and 479 lb-ft (648 Nm) of torque.  It is connected to a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission which enables the sedan to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h).

Moving up to the $71,900 C63 S rewards buyers with Nappa leather seats, red brake calipers and an AMG performance steering wheel.  The model also has dynamic engine mounts and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Bigger changes occur under the hood as the twin-turbo V8 engine has been tuned to produce 503 bhp (375 kW) and 516 lb-ft (698 Nm) of torque.  Thanks to the extra oomph, the dash from 0-60 mph takes 3.9 seconds and the top speed is an electronically-limited 180 mph (289 km/h).

Note: Prices exclude a $925 destination and delivery fee

Buick Avenir concept

Could preview range-topping model

Following an official debut at NAIAS back in January, Buick
has released more details about the Avenir concept.

Likely previewing a future range-topping model, the Avenir
concept has received a pair of LED headlights featuring a trio of
jewel-like LED assemblies shaped to mimic the wave-like forms found inside the
luxurious cabin. Both headlight and taillight clusters feature diffused light
elements forming "wings" stretching across the top of the lamp assembly to replicate
the fender shapes. Each of these wings has a Buick tri-shield logo and
continue the layered pattern of the decorative trim and seating areas.

When the driver activates the turn signals, the light-emitting diodes (LED) in the
headlights and taillights illuminate sequentially and give the "impression
of waves upon a shoreline."
The U.S. luxury marque mentions these LED assemblies have been designed by their teams in North America and in Australia
who wanted to provide a dramatic "expression of modern Buick design."

G-Power tuned BMW M550d sets a record for being the fastest diesel-powered BMW wagon

G-Power tuned BMW M550d sets a record for being the fastest diesel-powered BMW wagon

G-POWER BMW M550d

A G-Power tuned BMW M550d has set a new speed record to claim the title as the world's fastest diesel-powered BMW station wagon.

During testing the model was able to hit a top speed of 271.4 km/h (168.6 mph). In order to achieve this, the wagon's tri-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine was equipped with a D-Tronik 5 V1 performance module which enabled it to produce 435 PS (320 kW) and 850 Nm (626 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 54 PS (39 kW) and 110 Nm (81 lb-ft).

G-Power says this allows the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds before hitting a theoretical top speed of up to 300 km/h (186 mph).

New details are starting to emerge about the turbocharged engines that will power the facelifted Porsche 911.

According to Motoring's sources, the entry-level model will use a turbocharged 2.7-liter six-cylinder engine that develops up to 407 PS (300 kW).  Despite the improved performance, the engine will be more economical as it will reportedly consume less than 8L/100km (29.4 mpg US / 35.3 mpg UK).

The 911 Carrera S will also feature a turbocharged engine and it is expected to displace 3.4-liters.  Specifications remain a mystery but it should produce more than 407 PS (300 kW).

The facelifted Porsche 911 is expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, so expect to learn more in the coming months.

Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series

The Mercedes-AMG GT is getting a faster, meaner Black Series version.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed what we've all been expecting ever since the brand-new Mercedes-AMG GT was unveiled; the coupe will get a faster, meaner Black Series version. The news comes from AMG boss Tobias Moers, who confirmed plans for a more powerful Mercedes-AMG GT at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Moers declined to go into specifics or provide a launch date, but EVO speculates the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series won't become available before the 2018 model year.

We sincerely hope they are wrong and that the Black Series will need less time to roar onto a street near you.

So what will the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series bring once it arrives in dealerships? Well, details are still under wraps and that's not going to change for a while, but we can get an idea by looking at the SLS AMG Black Series. The beefed up coupe will most likely be distinguished by an aggressive body kit that will include a front splitter and a fixed rear wing, a stiffer suspension and a host of unique features inside and out.

Naturally, the package will also include an engine upgrade, with the turbocharged, 4.0-liter V-8 tuned to propel the Black Series to the top of the Mercedes-AMG GT range. Considering the SLS AMG Black Series had an extra 51 ponies over the standard model, it seems safe to assume the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series will arrive with more than 550 horses.

Updated 03/27/2015: Some information - from a man that already ordered the car - suggests that this more powerful version of the AMG GT could in fact be called GT R and not the Black Series. Same sources suggest the model could deliver a total of 530 PS - 522 HP, will be lighter and will offer improved aerodynamics.

Toyota UK Honors Some Of Clarkson's Best Top Gear Moments: Video

Love him or hate him, Jeremy Clarkson is a household name among international car journalists in both print and television. This is probably why Toyota UK has put together a motley collection of Top Gear clips that mainly have one thing in common: Jeremy trying to destroy various Toyota models. The resulting video is actually a heartwarming tribute to Jeremy Clarkson, who was recently ousted from the BBC Top Gear show following an altercation that he had with a producer. With the news that he will no longer be on Top Gear, the show's future remains in doubt, especially since both James May and Richard Hammond have hinted that they wouldn't want to continue hosting without Jeremy.

Many credit Clarkson, along with Top Gear executive producer and childhood friend of Jezza, Andy Wilman, as the main drivers behind the resurgence of the Top Gear show, which went from being axed by the BBC in the early 2000s to be completely revamped starting in 2002. That was the year Clarkson's larger-than-life persona began showing up on more and more T.V. sets, with each episode of the show amassing around 350 million viewers from over 170 countries, not including the millions who illegally stream or download Top Gear.

Over the years, Clarkson has managed to juggle public praise and intense criticism thanks to his highly opinionated and often provocative statements about various subjects, not all of them related to cars. It looks like even though he rarely praised Toyotas on Top Gear, the company is sad to see him go. Perhaps it was because after exhaustive, Herculean efforts, they were unable to destroy its venerable pickup truck.

DRIVE Reviews A Race-Prepped Chevrolet C10 Truck: Video

It is said that with the right engineering and work, any vehicle can go fast. That's largely true for cars, but can it be applied to a pickup truck? According to DRIVE's latest "Big Muscle" episode, there's at least one truck that is as fast and nimble as car on the race track. The hauler in question is a heavily modified 1969 Chevrolet C10 built by Bob Philips for his wife Brandy. Yup, Brandy is a race car driver and she previously did laps on race tracks across the U.S. in a second-generation Camaro.

Porsche Boxster Spyder

The Boxster Spyder was first launched at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show as a roadster that took inspiration from the 550 Spyder of the mid-1950s. Essentially identical to its standard sibling from the waist down except for "Spyder" badging, side skirt stripes, and lightweight wheels, the Spyder ditched the Boxster's conventional soft top in favor of a manually operated canvas top. The design also included a pair of roll-over hoops behind the seats, a feature that also harks back to the open-top race cars of the 1950s. Porsche's aim with the Spyder was to offer a lighter and more powerful Boxster that would sit above the then-range-topping S model. By removing various convenience features and adding a stiffer suspension on top of a 320-horsepower flat-six, Porsche built the most extreme Boxster yet, now a modern classic only five years since production was stopped.

Come 2015 and the first-gen Spyder's reign as the coolest Boxster in history is about to come to an end. Porsche has already confirmed it is working on a new version, which is rumored to break cover at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Granted, the Spyder is still a long way from showing its face in public, which is why I have put together a speculative review about what this new roadster might bring to the table. Check it out below.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS And Cayman GT4 Star In Latest Promo: Video

Already off to a great start in 2015, following the introduction of the 911 GT3 RS and the Cayman GT4, Porsche just released a short promo in order to build more hype around its new sports cars. The video begins with the two vehicles being put through their paces on a twisty road, but the footage quickly moves onto the race track, where the GT3 RS and the GT4 battle for supremacy under full throttle. In short, Porsche is simply bragging about having two new track-focused sports cars on their way to dealerships and asks viewers which one would they prefer. Make sure you watch the video above and then drop me a line about which of the two you would prefer in the comments box below.

To make things fair I'll go first and pick the Cayman GT4. Why? It's quite simple. As much as I love 911s in general and the GT3 in particular, I also love to row my own gears. As you're probably aware, the GT3 RS is a PDK-exclusive machine, and that's exactly what makes it less appealing for me. The Cayman GT4, on the other hand, is equipped with a six-speed manual that makes driving it a much more engaging experience, especially on a twisty race track. Problem is I can't afford it just yet, so if any of you has some $90K to spare I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands.

And do you imagine that it's coincidence that the 911 passes the
Cayman but not vice versa? Uh-huh. I think the Cayman driver just didn't want to lose his job.

Ferrari Will Not Turbocharge V-12s Any Time Soon

Despite the current "turbocharge everything" trend, followed by Ferrari itself with cars like the California T and the new 488 GTB, Ferrari isn't yet ready to forget about its naturally aspirated engines. At least not when it comes to screaming V-12s, a prerequisite of almost every Ferrari halo model since the company started making road cars. According to a recent report by Autocar that quotes a mysterious Ferrari insider, the Italian sports car maker will prolong its naturally aspirated V-12 era with a little help from electric motors.

More specifically, the much-anticipated 48-volt electrical systems that a number of German carmakers like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are currently preparing, will abet Ferrari's new predilection for mild hybrids. In short, the company's upcoming V-12 engines will not be augmented by turbochargers for better fuel economy, but will get more oomph and improved efficiency courtesy of electric motors. "There will be no turbos on our V12s. Expect instead to see 48-volt systems on the next generation." the unnamed Ferrari insider told Autocar.

Take it with a pinch of salt, since the information hasn't been verified by an official source, although the idea does make sense and the technology is imminent. A mild hybrid system would keep the high-revving nature of the big Ferrari V-12s, while also adding extra go at lower revs and improved fuel economy - the best of both worlds.

BMW/Toyota Partnership To Spawn 2 Cars

Way back in January 2013, Toyota and BMW announced a joint venture in which they would co-develop some sort of sport car. Since the announcement was made, there have been so many rumours popping up on the internet about the new sportscar that it was hard to distinguish fact from fiction. At last we have official word from Toyota Europe's vice-president and product planning chief Karl Schlicht on what to expect from this joint venture.

In an interview with Autocar at the Geneva International Motor Show, Schlicht revealed some facts about the new Toyota/BMW sportscar without getting into too much detail. What he did reveal though is that the new car will be positioned above the Toyobaru FRS/BRZ/GT86 triplets. He was quoted as saying " The intention with the new car is for it to sit above the GT86. It doesn't replace the model; the GT86 goes on with its own mission". This makes sense as this would allow Toyota to bring back the Supra moniker, which was dropped in 2002, as a halo car for the Toyota brand. By moving the car upmarket, it would also allow them to recover development money spent on what is probably an expensive venture.

Another interesting piece of information that Schlicht revealed was that the BMW and Toyota sportscars don't have to necessarily enter in the same market space, unlike the FRS/BRZ/GT86 which all compete against each other. While the Toyota sportscar will most likely mimic the size of the FT-1 concept that they have been showcasing around, BMW will most likely have a smaller version to replace the aging Z4. When asked if the new joint platform was scalable enough to accommodate the two different wheelbases, Schlicht said "Gone are the days when one platform was one platform. Most of our platforms are scalable nowadays". Schlicht also mentioned that they haven't confirmed where they will be producing these cars, but that a single factory will most likely have the task of building both cars. BMW is said to be applying their knowledge of carbon fiber construction from their i3 and i8 cars to the new cars.

While the Toyota executive didn't mention powertrain ideas, the internet rumourmill, including Autocar, has been saying the new cars will be powered by a hybrid system with a small displacement 4 cylinder BMW engine and electric motors. This would make sense as every automaker and their neighnours are moving towards hybrid technology to meet performance and fuel consumption demands. The car is set to debut sometime in 2017 and will "cost more than a Corvette".

Swiss Investors buy De Tomaso

Italian automaker De Tomaso, famous for Pantera supercar in the 1980's, was a celebrated brand in it's heyday. They made gorgeous Italian styled supercars such as the Mangusta, Vallelunga, and of course the Pantera. However, they unfortunately went into liquidation back in 2004. Now it looks like De Tomaso may relive again, as the rights to the automaker have just been acquired by L3 Holdings, a Swiss investment group.

Founded in 1959 by Argentinean born Alejandro De Tomaso, the automaker originally made prototypes and racing cars, most notably the Formula One car for the Williams' team in 1970. De Tomaso at one point owned Italian automaker Maserati (1976-1993) and motorcycle producer Moto Guzzi (1973-1993). After Alejandro De Tomaso's death in 2003, the automaker went bankrupt. Afterwards the brand's trademark was bought by Gian Mario Rossignolo, a former Fiat executive. His ambitious plan to produce 8,000 new vehicles never saw past the drawing board as he too drove the Italian automaker to the ground in 2012. As you can see, De Tomaso hasn't had too much luck in recent years, but this new acquisition looks optimistic in the least.

According to reports, L3 Holdings acquired the rights to De Tomaso at a price of 2 million Euros, beating out bids from the Italian firm Eos Group and China's Consolidated Ideal TeamVenture. L3 Holdings is said to hire about 360 employees at their new manufacturing plant in Turin, Italy. A new mid-engined sports car is said to be produced in the new plant. I hope they bring back the Pantera, I think people would come in flocks to the dealerships if they revive the name. Only time will tell if L3 can turn De Tomaso into a successful brand again.
