Volkswagen Golf Estate R-Line concept bows in Geneva

Volkswagen Golf Estate R-Line concept 05.3.2013

Previews a possible production model

Volkswagen just unveiled the Golf VII Estate / Variant, but that hasn't stopped the company from introducing the Golf Estate R-Line concept.

Designed to preview a possible production model, the R-Line has GTI-inspired body kit with modified bumpers, revised side skirts and a rear diffuser. There's also gloss black accents, a tailgate-mounted spoiler and 18-inch Salvador-style alloy wheels.

Interior changes are limited but include two-tone leather sport seats, Crystal Grey contrast stitching and gloss black trim. The concept is also equipped with R-Line sill plates and black floor mats with blue leather piping.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter TDI engine that develops 150 HP (110 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. It sends power to ground via a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.

Updated GTA Spano is limited to 99 units [video]

Limited to 99 units

Following a couple of teasers launched last month, GTA has introduced in Geneva today the updated 2013 Spano which will be available in only 99 units.

Its soul is a supercharged V10 8.4-liter engine pumping out 900 HP (662 kW) and an electronically-limited 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) which enables the supercar to run the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in less than 3 seconds, before reaching a top speed of more than 217 mph (350 km/h). Power is transferred through a 7-speed automatically sequential transmission with paddle shifters or via a 7-speed manual sequential.

It tips the scales at 1,350 kg (2,976 lbs) thanks to its carbon fiber body and rides on 19-inch front wheels with Pirelli 255/35 tires and 20-inch rear alloys with 335/30 rubbers. It adopts a double wishbone suspension on both axles and features multi-self-adjusting shock absorbers and electronically-regulated wing.

Stopping the car is an AP Racing carbon-ceramic brake system with 380mm ventilated discs and six-piston calipers. The monocoque is made from titanium honeycomb, carbon fiber and Kevlar which helps it have a reduced weight of just 80 kg (176 lbs).

More details are available in the attached press release.

Mercedes G65 AMG Gronos by Mansory

Posted on 03.5.2013 14:00 by
Kirby Garlitos

Unlike most aftermarket companies, Swiss tuner Mansory rarely releases programs unless it has plans of showing them off in major auto shows.

But you can always count on it to have a presence in Geneva, in large part because a) it’s in its own stomping grounds, and b) it’s the biggest auto show of the year.

One of the programs Mansory has prepared for Geneva is a rather over-the-top program for the Mercedes G65 AMG. We’ve already established the tuner’s proclivity to use carbon fiber, something its Gronos program for the G65 AMG has in abundance.

The newly designed bodywork was made from ultra-light carbon, including the front splitter, which features LED daytime running lights and the front fairing that lays over it. It’s also worth noting that, despite the vehicle receiving multiple layers of Magic Yellow color paint, certain parts of the G65 AMG, particularly the roof, the mirror housings and the decorative trims, were left to show the carbon fiber design of the bodywork.

You’ll also notice that the G65 AMG is a little wider, something that can be attributed to the wider wings and side skirts, as well as the stretched wheel arches, netting an increase of 20 mm (0.78 inches) in width. Finally, a new set of 23-inch ten twin-spoke wheels wrapped in high-performance Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tires.

The interior is also the picture of Mansory tuning genius, particularly the dashboard and center console, which has been redesigned with more carbon-fiber components. The plush modification in those areas is complemented by the immaculate leather upholstered on the seats with matching Magic Yellow stitching.

Finally, there’s the engine, which Mansory was able to upgrade, thanks to the addition of a newly designed exhaust system, a new manifold, and a double stainless-steel tailpipes. Put together, the tuner was able to increase the output of the G65 AMG’s 6-liter V-12 engine to 840 horsepower with an electronically limited 738 pound-feet of torque.

Volkswagen Golf Estate Concept R-Line

Along with the launch of the new Golf Variant, Volkswagen has also unveiled the new Golf Estate Concept R-Line - the first time an R treatment is applied to a Golf estate model. Even though VW said nothing about a future production version, we are pretty sure we are going to see one on the market pretty soon.

Up front, the new R-Line concept receives a newly designed bumper with a dominant air intake in the middle, a new front spoiler painted in the body color and striking splitters. When viewed from the side, the concept gets high-gloss black sill and for the rear, the R-Line package adds a sporty and distinctive black diffuser, a new roof spoiler and chrome tailpipes. The concept will be offered with 18-inch R-Line wheels painted in "sterling silver."

For the interior, the new Golf Estate R-Line will add ergonomically designed sport seats, center panels wrapped in a high-tone Nappa leather in "Space Blue," black carbon leather used for the inner surfaces of the side supports and black Nappa used for the outside surfaces of the seats, the steering wheel and the middle arm rest.

The New 2013 Honda Accord Sedan

2013 Honda Accord Sedan

While many think the Honda Accord has lost its way since the 1990s, the car continues to sell very well, finding a sweet spot of style, performance, and function for many drivers. The 2013 model looks to update the car with a fresher, more dramatic take on the Accord’s proportions and theme.

Previewed by the Accord Coupe Concept at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, the new car looks rather similar to the current Accord, but at the same time, blends its elements more harmoniously, presenting a more refined, modern look.

The spy shots show a car that’s still heavily clad in camouflage, however, keeping the changes from the Accord Coupe Concept to the production sedan from our view. Given Honda’s affinity for showing barely-disguised production models as concepts, however, we have every reason to think that what’s under the covers will closely resemble the Detroit concept.

Information on what sort of interior design changes, technology upgrades, or powertrain improvements might be in order remains closely held, however.

The 2013 Honda Accord is expected to arrive in dealer lots later this year, with the sedan preceding the coupe by several months to a year.

The Vencer Sarthe Holland new Supercar

Vencer Sarthe

Following in the trail blazed by the likes of the Savage Rivale GTS and the Spyker C12 Zagato comes another super car bearing the proud colors of the Oranje.

This new piece of four-wheeled exoticness goes by the name of Vencer Sarthe, a hand-built model by the fine folks of Vencer, who apparently want to break into the growing super car market of the European country.

Despite looking a little bland for a super car – the rear end looks like a boring mess of blah – the Sarthe boasts of the finest materials that are “supercar worthy.” For example, the entire body is made out of carbon fiber – always a good thing – while also carrying a space frame chassis that's been built of steel and chrome-moly tubing. It rides on a new set of either 19″ or 20 alloy wheels. Again, that's cool to know.

More than that, the Sarthe's calling card – as with any other exotic for that matter – is its power train. Packing a mid-mounted V8 engine, the Dutch super car is capable of producing 503 horsepower and 480 lb/ft of torque while mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Those figures translate to a 0-62 mph time of just 3.8 seconds with an impressive top speed of 202 mph.

As with most niche super car models, don't expect a mass produced Sarthe anytime soon. Vencer has already said that production will be very limited and we're not about to start questioning that decision.

After all, for a company that's still looking to break into an extremely competitive industry, testing out the waters sounds like a pretty good idea.

Mitsubishi G4 Compact Sedan Concept teased for Bangkok Motor Show

Mitsubishi G4 Compact Sedan Concept teased for Bangkok Motor Show

Mitsubishi G4 Compact Sedan Concept teaser

Debuts on March 25

Mitsubishi has prepared the G4 Compact Sedan Concept for the 34th edition of the Bangkok International Motor Show which starts on March 25.

While the CA-MiEV and GR-HEV concepts will be shown tomorrow in Geneva, the G4 will be showcased later this month. It serves as a preview for a global compact sedan which will be launched soon. It uses the firm's upcoming design approach with a dynamic character line and a short nose, while the "graceful and flowing side proportions" balance the interior space.

The Mitsubishi G4 concept benefits from a reinforced impact safety evolution (RISE) body which uses a lot of high-tensile steel to lower the car's curb weight and make it more fuel-efficient. Power comes from a compact and lightweight 1.2-liter MIVEC engine linked to a CVT.

Read the press release below for further details.

Pegueot RCZ by Magna Steyr with textile/glass roof confirmed for Geneva

Pegueot RCZ by Magna Steyr with textile/glass roof confirmed for Geneva

Peugeot RCZ by Magna Steyr

An open roof version

Peugeot and Magna Steyr will showcase tomorrow in Geneva an open roof version of the RCZ.

This special Peugeot RCZ features Magna Steyr's View Top system which encompasses  transparent glass segments integrated into the textile material. The View Top extends from the windscreen to the rear lid when it's closed. It can be opened in 12 seconds and is stacked in a special pattern at a height of just 200mm.

This folded top is positioned on the rear shelf which means it occupies a small amount of space and enables the RCZ to host two (very short) passengers in the back seats. Magna Steyr adapted the system to match the RCZ's styling as it features the coupe's double bubble roof, while the rest of the car is identical.

We don't know if Peugeot will offer this roof as an optional feature for the RCZ, but we will find out more about the concept tomorrow when it premieres in Geneva.

Lamborghini Veneno hypercar leaked prior to Geneva debut

Lamborghini Veneno hypercar leaked prior to Geneva debut

Lamborghini Veneno concept leaked, 1354, 03.03.2013

Stealing the P1's and F70's thunder

This is Lamborghini's fastest car ever made and will be built to celebrate the brand's 50th anniversary.

While Ferrari and McLaren launched an endless string of teasers with their Geneva-bound supercars, Lamborghini revealed extremely limited information. Speaking of limited, the Veneno will be made in only three units and as you would expect, all of them have already been sold.

The Sunday Times says it will cost a whopping 3.1M GBP (3.57M EUR or 4.65M USD). At its heart is a V12 6.5-liter engine producing 740 hp (552 kW) linked to a seven-speed ISR robotized manual gearbox. It will enable the supercar to reach a top speed of 220 mph (354 km/h).

In terms of styling, we find it even more radical than other special models like the Reventon or Sesto Elemento. Although we don't get to see the car's back, the rear wing looks extremely big. There are several carbon fiber components, a roof scoop, sweptback headlights and massive wheels.

We'll have more details in a couple of days when the Lamborghini Veneno will storm Geneva.

Video: Swiss Artists Lu&Lu Turn the MINI Countryman Into an Alpine Art Car

Switzerland is set to become the center of the auto world when the annual auto show opens next week. It’s also important to remember that the 2013 Burton European Open snowboarding event in LAXX, Switzerland is also on-going.

It’s important because MINI is a sponsor of the event and when a marketing opportunity presents itself, you know MINI going to take full advantage of it. So what exactly did MINI do?

Build a Countryman art car, of course; except that this isn’t just any other art car. It’s one that was designed by Swiss local artists Lu&Lu and has been rechristened as the Countryman RE:LAAX!

Using the Swiss Alps as the inspiration, Lu&Lu proceeded to draw an image - or something that resembles it - of the picturesque landscape of the region. And the best part is, they chronicled the whole thing via a video, which need we say more, is a must-watch.

In the latest episode of his "Head 2 Head" show, Carlos Lago from MotorTrend put two of the coolest sports car on the market — the 2013 Mazda Miata Club Edition and the 2013 Scion FR-S — head to head. Of course, for this test you will have to forget the numbers and understand it is just a fight made for fun.

The Scion FR-S will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds and the Miata Club Edition in 6.1 seconds. The quarter-mile times are pretty much identical, as the MX-5 runs it in 14.7 seconds at a speed of 92.8 mph and the FR-S in 14.8 seconds at a speed of 95.1 mph. With these numbers aside, which car is more fun to drive?

Watch the video to see which of the two models impressed Carlos Lago the most! Also, let us know in the comment section below if you agree with him!

Ford plans to reduce vehicle waste 40% by 2016

Ford plans to reduce vehicle waste 40% by 2016

By Kevin Davis on Thursday, February 28th, 2013

Ford Motor Co. announced a five-year global strategy to reduce waste sent to landfill between 2011 and 2016 by 40% per vehicle, Environmental Leader reported.

Under the plan, Ford plans to reduce waste to just 13.4 pounds per vehicle worldwide. The company will identify the five largest volume waste-to-landfill streams at each of its plants, and develop plans to reduce the waste and track progress, the publication reported.

The plan builds on Ford’s previous goal of reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill per vehicle 40% between 2007 and 2011. The company was able to cut waste per vehicle from 37.9 to 22.7, a 40% reduction, over the five-year period.

Porsche to introduce two new 911s in Geneva

2013 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 8.12.2012

One promises to be an extremely exciting 911 model

Porsche has announced plans to introduce two "particularly sporty" models at the Geneva Motor Show.

The company refrained from providing details, but hinted the first vehicle will be an "extremely exciting 911 model" which has "new engineering highlights" as well as excellent driving dynamics.

As for the second model, it will be the 991 based 2013 911 GT3 Cup. Designed to compete in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, the sports car has an evolutionary design with a new front bumper and carbon fiber canards. There's also a rear wing, a center-mounted dual exhaust system and single-piece racing wheels with Michelin racing slicks.

Power is provided by a 3.8-liter flat-six engine that develops 460 HP (338 kW). It will be connected to a six-speed "dog-type" transmission that is operated via steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.

Pagani Zonda F Prototype 0 with Batman livery [video]

7.3-liter V12 AMG

Supercar spotter and WCF friend Marchettino has filmed a former Pagani Zonda F factory car known as the Prototype 0.

The car was used to test components and served as a foundation for the development of the Zonda Cinque. He says it's one of the most driven Zondas ever as three years ago it already covered 60,000 km (37,282 miles).

Despite its Italian license plates, this unique car is now in the possession of an Argentinian businessman who is probably a huge Batman fan judging by the front livery. The power of this 1,371 kg (3,022 lbs) prototype comes from the mighty V12 7.3-liter AMG engine with 594 hp (443 kW) and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque. It can do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in just 3.5 seconds, on its way to a limited top speed of 214 mph (345 km/h).

Porsche Recalls Carrera and Carrera 4 Over Faulty Exhaust

Posted on 02.28.2013 18:00 by

Porsche rarely ever has a recall, but today it has issued one because of a faulty exhaust system that can result in other drivers being in danger.

Porsche North America has issued a voluntary recall for 2012 to 2013 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 vehicles manufactured from March 7, 2012 through November 12, 2012 and equipped with a standard (not sport) exhaust system. According to the recall report, the tailpipe may crack, which can result in the pipe breaking free from the muffler and fall onto the road while you are driving, In such a case, the 911 may become a hazard for other vehicles on the road, increasing the risk of a crash.

Porsche announced that each owner will be notified and local dealers will replace the rear mufflers free of charge. Still, if you drive such a model you are being advised to contact Porsche at 1-800-767-7243.

Spy Shots: Next Generation BMW 7-Series Caught Testing for the First Time

Posted on 02.28.2013 10:00 by
Simona

We have known for quite some time that BMW has been working on the new-generation 7-Series, but all we had until now were simple speculations. Today, however, the car was caught testing for the first time during testing in Northern Sweden.

Internally called G11, the new 7-Series will be much lighter than the current version, due to lightweight materials like carbon fiber being used for the main parts, like the platform, structure and body panels. This reduced weight - rumored to be somewhere in the 450-pound area - will help it deliver improved handling and performance.

Under the hood, BMW will place a range of six- , eight- and twelve-cylinder engine all connected to automatic gearboxes. Rumors suggested there will also be a new four-cylinder engine added to the lineup, but these are just speculations for now.

Expect the next-generation 7-Series to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Car Show in 2015.

Abarth 695 Record

Kirby Garlitos

Rounding out the four Abarth 695 ’fuoriserie’ models that will be in attendance at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show is the 695 Record.

As with the rest of its kind, the 695 Record comes with the usual digs that Abarth is offering to its customers as customizable options dedicated to ensuring top-level uniqueness and exclusivity that you won’t normally find in any other Abarth 695.

The 695 Record belongs in the fuoriserie’s New Heritage Collection with the 695 Scorpio and was built to target a market that understands the homage paid to the Abarth 750 Record Bertone.

The silver body paint of the 695 Record may look a little plain to the eyes, but once you add the red-and-silver checkered roof to the equation, as well as he polished interior trim bearing the same colors, you begin to see the customization angle attributed to Abarth’s fuoriserie program.

Plus, the 695 Record also features the 180-horsepower, 1.4-liter 16v Turbo T-Jet of the standard Abarth 695. A powerful engine plus a classy personalization program always equates to a sweet ride, and the 695 Record is no different.

Nissan details 2013 Euro-spec Leaf electric vehicle

2013 Nissan Leaf (Euro-spec)

Built in Sunderland

Nissan has released full details about the Euro-spec 2013 Leaf which will be built in Sunderland, UK.

Following the 3,000 EUR price cut announcement, Nissan is offering complete details about the European version of the 2013 Leaf. Compared to the previous Japan-built Leaf, the revised model boasts more than 100 modifications with improvements such as more interior space, more equipment, greater recyclability and subtle tweaks to the car's nose for improved aerodynamic efficiency.

More importantly, the range has increased from 109 miles (175.4 km) to 124 miles (199.5 km). With an optional fast charger the battery can be fully charged in four hours, while with the regular charger takes eight hours.

Nissan has added a new entry-level Visia trim which has 16-inch steel wheels with full covers, halogen headlights and black door mirror caps. In the United Kingdom, the base Leaf should cost around 20,000 GBP taking into account the 5,000 GBP government grant.

Deliveries are expected to commence this June.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 13.1.2013

Could cost less than $50,000

Chevrolet hasn't even released pricing information on the 2014 Corvette Stingray, but a new report is indicating the company will launch an entry-level model in 2015.

Motor Trend says the car will be distinguished by a new front fascia, modified fenders and a different diffuser. The model could also lose the Stingray name.

Power will reportedly come from a 5.3-liter V8 engine that is similar to the one used in the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado / GMC Sierra. This likely means the mill will produce less than 400 bhp (298 kW) which is at least 50 bhp (37 kW) less than the Stingray.

If everything pans out, the 2015 Corvette Coupe could sticker for less than $50,000.

Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

Posted on 02.27.2013 11:00 by
Simona

It looks like Chevy decided that the new Corvette Stingray is going to be a little bit expensive for its usual customers, so, starting in the 2015 model year, a "low-cost" Corvette is going to be added to its lineup. First details on this new version suggest it will drop the new Stingray badge and will use the name Corvette Coupe to distinguish itself.

The Stingray is powered by an all-new 6.2-liter V-8 engine, but this upcoming version is rumored to house the all-new, all-aluminum 5.3-liter V-8 engine - the same used in the new General Motor trucks, like the 2014 Sierra. This engine will likely produce just under 400 horsepower.

Many rumors pointed toward this less-expensive `Vette using a boosted V-6 engine, but GM just couldn't get it to produce the fuel economy numbers that it needed.

Also, when compared to the Stingray version, this new coupe model will feature a different front fascia, front fender and rear diffuser to further distinguish it from the Stingray models.

Now keep in mind that "low cost" is a relative term and in this case, we are likely talking somewhere just shy of $50K.

We'll keep our eyes on this model and bring you updates as they come up.

BMW releases official spy photos of the i3

BMW i3 official spy photo 26.2.2013

Delivers Sheer Electric Driving Pleasure

BMW has decided to give our spy photographers a break as they have released several new pictures of an i3 prototype undergoing cold weather testing.

The company didn't have much to say about the model but confirmed it recently completed an endurance test near the Arctic Circle. BMW went on to say the test was successful and the i3 delivered "Sheer Electric Driving Pleasure."

As we have previously reported, the i3 concept featured an electric motor with 170 HP (125 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. It enabled the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, hit a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph) and travel 130-160 km (80-100 miles) on a single charge.

To appease those with range anxiety, BMW will offer an i3 REx with a range-extending engine. It will reportedly use a two-cylinder motorcycle engine to allow the model to travel up to 186 miles (300 km) between fill-ups or recharging stations.

Audi RS4 Avants play paintball [videos]

The world's fastest paintball tournament?

Audi has released a new promotional video for the RS4 Avant.

Filmed in an aircraft hanger, the Ultimate Paintball Duel stars two RS4 Avants that have been equipped with massive paintball guns - that resemble a .50 caliber machine gun - which are fired by a console-mounted button. The cars also have special bonus weapons including paint bombs and paint "oil slicks."

The cars were driven by stuntmen Jim Dowdall and Colin Skeaping who were filmed using six GoPro cameras, three floor cameras and a helicopter-mounted camera.

As we have previously reported, the Audi RS4 Avant features a 4.2-liter V8 engine that develops 450 HP (331 kW) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid

2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid

A comparison of the new 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid, and the new 2014 Honda Fit EV provides insight to the direction the electric car market is headed. Why sacrifice comfort, convenience, and safety for $1.33 per day?

Honda suddenly has both an electric car, the Fit EV, and a plug-in hybrid Honda Accord for sale. When operated as an electric the Accord has an EPA estimated miles per gallon equivalent of 115 mpge. The Honda Fit EV, which looks like an escape pod for an Accord, gets 118 mpge. For that extra 3 mpge the Fit had better come with some serious economic and green-credibility advantages. Otherwise, what's the point? Let's take a look at both of these vehicles and see what the world of over 100 miles per gallon (equivalent) is all about. Maybe by comparing the two we will gain some insight into where the green automotive marketplace might be headed.

For many years Honda was a fuel economy icon. The company was thought of by customers as a car company that supplied fuel efficient cars. Then someone moved Honda's cheese. All of a sudden everyone was a fuel economy leader. Toyota certainly, Ford definitely, Hyundai falsely(?), and many others arguably. So what did Honda stand for if not fuel economy? Honda always prided itself as being a motor company. Indeed Honda had excellent motors. However, with the Passat leading the way with a powerful 2.0 turbocharged, direct injected motor, all of a sudden everyone else had good motors too. Honda was late to the direct injection party which brought better economy and power. Honda was very late to the transmission party too. Only this year has Honda offered a CVT, something Nissan has done for so long we grew tired of disliking it. And Honda's automatic transmissions seem to be lacking a cog or two compared with many automatic slushboxes. Forget about a dual clutch transmission. Honda isn't going there.

2014 Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid Pricing and Fuel Economy

Now Honda has two new cars that are as good on gas as is technically possible in 2013. The Honda Accord, a perennial award winner, huge volume seller, and icon in the car class it defines, can now be partly an electric car. You can plug it in just like an electric car, you can then drive it without using any petroleum distillates for about 13 miles. Let's say to work. Then you can plug it in there, and drive it home. You won't burn any gasoline at all if you use it this way. Even better, on weekends you can fill the tank up with some regular unleaded and drive it 574 miles and it will be just like all the other Accords from days gone by. After the 561st mile you can fill the tank and do it again forever, and never have to worry about plugging the car in again if you choose not to. While operating as a gasoline powered car this Accord will get a combined 47 mpg. In case you need a reality check on how amazingly high that mileage is, our editor is presently testing a sporty 5 passenger crossover. His mileage to date in the test is about 15 mpg.

Here is the interesting part. This Accord has an MSRP of $39,780. That is just a reference point, because Honda is going to ask you (firmly) to lease the car at $429 per month for a few years. Then you can buy it. That is just a bit less than a Chevy Volt, which has one less seat, feels a lot smaller, and may be less flexible in terms of use as a gas-powered car. After our governments let you skip paying a bunch of your taxes, this Accord may be just about the price of the V6 Accord with all the toppings. So it is not a stretch to say that there will be people willing to forgo a few extra shekels for the fuel economy and green cred this car brings to the table.

Compared to the Accord EX 4-cylinder gas engine with CVT transmission, which sells for $26K, the Accord PIH is more expensive over its lifetime to own, including fuel or electricity. So if there is a buyer out there who is considering this car purely for economic reasons (there isn't), that buyer should just buy the regular Accord. I know there are readers out there that will now start cloud-computing, using differential equations and Fourier transforms to prove me wrong. Go ahead. I used a green crayon and the back of a stained cocktail napkin and I am certain I am right about this. Buyers of the Accord PIH are going to buy the car because they want to try to do what is right for their planet. Not to save $80 over 10 years.

2014 Honda Fit EV Pricing, Range, and MPGe

The Honda Fit EV is an interesting vehicle for many reasons. For one, after tax rebates, incentives, bribes, kick-backs, and favors it appears that this car is in the high $24K range in terms of cost. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that is the case, why are the American Taxpayers "loaning" Tesla and Fisker a half-billion dollars, give or take? Wasn't the whole point so they could "build an electric vehicle that we could all afford to buy." Here it is. This little pixie of a car has an MSRP of only $ 36,625. Again Honda wants you to lease it for a while at $389, but they will let you buy afterwards. Take a look at your family budget. Add your cable/internet package and your family’s cell phone costs per month together. I will bet you an ice cream that you pay more for those than you will for this car. So again, it is not a stretch to say that this automobile is affordable to most Americans who are shopping for ANY new car of this size.

This Fit is a true EV. There are two groups of people in the planet. The first group hears this and says "Thank goodness. I won't ever have to burn those horrible hydrocarbons again." The second group says "Cool" and they never think about the car again because they just don't care. Unlike the Accord PIH, they can't own this car. They have long commutes, they go places that are more than 41 miles away, and they don't want to worry about plugging in their car. Let's just focus on group one.

A person considering the Fit EV should know that the gasoline powered Fit is a great car - for its class. I have driven the Fit quite a bit and know that for its target market, urban drivers, relatively free of the need to tow a pair of snowmobiles to the cabin tonight, the car is high quality, affordable in every way, and fun to drive around a city. The EV will likely be all these things and more. The Fit can go about 80 miles on a charge according to the EPA. While it operates it gets 118 mpge. That makes it one of the greenest, if not THE greenest, production car on Earth to drive.

Plug-in versus Electric

We should say at this point that both of these cars are bi-coastal. Like all EVs, Honda is first launching them where the people who might be interested in them are concentrated. That means the two coasts. The rest of you folks in "fly-over" country will just have to wait a little longer to not buy these EVs.

Here is the question. For $1.33 more per day wouldn't you rather have the Accord? It is just so much more car. Ask yourself which you would rather have your child belted into in an accident. And if you are already planning to mostly do city driving anyway, won't 13 miles on electricity alone be enough for almost all of your trips? This match-up reveals to many the direction the automobile is headed. So many more people can live with the Accord PIH than can live with the Fit EV it seems apparent where the marketplace for green vehicles will mature to. Even if there is a great battery breakthrough (there are announcements every day), wouldn’t that help the plug-in hybrid just as much?

Honda has just proven that a more comfortable, safer, more flexible vehicle that can usually be operated using no gas is now available for $1.33 per day more than a tiny electric only vehicle.

Audi builds its five millionth model with quattro all-wheel drive

Audi builds its five millionth model with quattro all-wheel drive

5 millionth Audi with quattro all-wheel drive 25.5.2013

Originally debuted in 1980

After 33 years, Audi has built their five millionth model with a quattro all-wheel drive system.

The white A6 Allroad 3.0 TDI rolled off the assembly line at the company's Neckarsulm plant and was treated to a grand celebration that included a photo shoot with an original Quattro (aka Ur-quattro) model.

Audi's quattro origins trace back to winter of 1976-77 when engineers were testing front-wheel drive prototypes in snow-covered Sweden. The group brought along a Volkswagen Iltis and quickly recognized the 75 HP (55 kW) all-terrain vehicle was easily outperforming their more powerful prototypes. This lead the team to begin working on an all-wheel drive model under the watchful eye of Dr. Ferdinand Piëch who was the company's Board Member for Technical Development.

The resulting model, the legendary Audi Quattro, made its debut at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show and although it was planned for limited production, demand forced the company to keep it around until 1991.

- BMW Z4 Roadster (2006)

BMW Z4 Roadster

Coinciding with the launch of the BMW Z4 M Roadster, the entire Z4 Roadster range receives visual and substantial mechanical enhancements.

Engines:
Topping the new range is the Z4 3.0si, featuring BMW's innovative magnesium alloy in-line six-cylinder engine. Featuring Valvetronic valve lift and VANOS valve timing, the Z4 3.0si develops 265hp at 6,600rpm and 315Nm of torque at 2,750rpm. These impressive statistics help power the car from zero to 62mph in 5.7 seconds and, if left unchecked, continues to a maximum electronically limited top speed of 155mph. However, these levels of performance aren't at the expense of economy, with the 3.0si delivering 32.8mpg over the combined cycle.

Two in-line six-cylinder 2.5-litre variants will be offered - the Z4 2.5si and 2.5i. Based on the same engine, but differentiated by output, the 2.5si offers 218hp and 250Nm of torque from its 2,497cc powerplant. This gives the power to sprint from standstill to 62mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 149mph, while still delivering 33.6mpg on the combined cycle. By contrast, the 2.5i delivers 177hp and 230Nm of torque.

The only engine carried over from the out-going range is the four-cylinder Z4 2.0i that was launched in April 2005. Produced at BMW's Hams Hall plant near Coventry, the 1,995cc engine features BMW's Valvetronic and VANOS technologies to develop 150hp at 6,200rpm and 200Nm of torque at 3,600rpm. The lighter weight of this engine helps deliver sharp performance, with the Z4 2.0i dispatching the zero to 62mph sprint in 8.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 137mph.

Transmission:
Like the Z4 M Roadster, all new Z4 models come as standard with a six-speed gearbox. Alternatively, customers purchasing 2.5si and 3.0si models can specify a six-speed automatic gearbox which, for the first time, features paddles on the rear of the steering wheel to select the appropriate gear manually.

Sport models:
Sport models are available to enhance the 'standard' Z4 line-up, featuring 18-inch M double spoke or optional composite alloy wheel, M Sports seats covered in Active Sports leather upholstery, three-spoke M leather steering wheel and M Sports suspension. Sport models will add further appeal to those demanding a particularly sporting drive.

Design:
At launch in 2003, the BMW Z4 instantly became one of the company's most distinctive designs. This design positioned the car as much more of a driver's car dynamically than the Z3 it replaced. This performance focus remains, with subtle enhancements rather than wholesale changes.

From the front, the shoulder line extends all the way to the front air dam rather than stopping at the bonnet edge, a wider air intake dominates the lower valance and the kidney grille receives minor changes. Additionally, the headlights have been re-designed and now include corona light rings as standard on all cars specified with Xenon lamps (standard on M Roadster models).

From the side, US-style side reflectors are integrated into the front wheel arches that also house new alloy wheel designs.

From the rear, all-new tail lamps feature Z8-style horizontal light conductor rods and BMW's Brake Force Display braking system while a second spoiler lip adorns the rear air dam. Finally, all Z4 Roadster models feature a new colour choice including Monaco Blue, Flamenco Red, Silver Grey and Deep Green.

ABOUT PAGANI

Pagani Automobili S.p.A. is an Italian manufacturer of sports cars and carbon fibre. The company was founded in 1992 by Horacio Pagani, and is based in San Cesario sul Panaro, near Modena, Italy.

History
Horacio Pagani, an Argentinian-born Italian, who formerly managed Lamborghini's composite department, founded Pagani Composite Research in 1988. This new company worked with Lamborghini on numerous projects, including the restyling of the 25th Anniversary Countach, the P140 design concept, and the Diablo. In the late 1980s, Pagani began designing his own car, then referred to as the "C8 Project". Pagani planned to rename the C8 the "Fangio F1" to honor five-time Formula One champion Juan Manuel Fangio.

In 1991 Pagani established Modena Design to meet the increasing demand for his design, engineering, and prototyping services. In 1992, he began construction of a Fangio F1 prototype, and by 1993, the car was being tested at the Dallara wind tunnel with positive results. In 1994, Mercedes-Benz agreed to supply Pagani with V12 engines.

The final car was named the Zonda C12; the Fangio F1 name was dropped out of respect for Fangio, who died in 1995. It was first presented at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show.

In 2005, Pagani announced that it planned to triple its production output within the next three years, and to enter the US market in 2007.

On the 25th of September 2007 Pagani claimed a new record for production super cars using the Pagani Zonda F Clubsport by completing the N rburgring in 7:27:82, but has since been beaten by other cars, such as the Maserati MC12, and Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR.

- PAGANI ZONDA C12-S Roadster (2003)

PAGANI ZONDA C12-S Roadster
Horacio Pagani, with his Zonda C12 in 1998, then the C12S in 2000 and the Zonda Roadster in 2003, has created a new generation of legendary cars. At the 2--4 Mondial de l'Automobile, Pagani Automobili reaffirmed its evolution by displaying a two-tone Pagani Roadster as their highlight stand.

Every Pagani is unique, but the Paris Show Car is the first with a two tone paint, very similar to certain cars built in the middle of last century. The upper part of the car is a beautiful metallic Red while the lower part is a metallic Black enlightened by golden dust. This special finishing allows a visual blending of the carbon fibre components with the lower body elements and produces a dynamic effect of the silhouette that is already particularly airy in this open version.

It is also important to highlight that the Roadster, as well as the two other cars displayed, is equipped with the new version of the gearbox produced for Pagani by Cima, the gearbox specialist. Thanks to the experience gained by this supplier in the Formula 1 field, this gearbox allows a faster and, simultaneously, very comfortable gear shifting, thanks to a shorter stroke on the gearbox lever, shortened by 20%, to a refinement of the gearshift mechanism and improved synchronisers, underlining even more the purism of this transmission.

SATURN

SATURN Flextreme Concept (2008)

SATURN Flextreme Concept (2008)
Saturn demonstrates that clean, practical transportation and stunning design can go hand-in-hand with the electric-drive Saturn Flextreme concept, introduced at the 2008 North American International Auto Show. Featuring General Motors' breakthrough E-Flex electric propulsion technology that provides up to 34 miles of all-electric, emissions-free range, as well as a sleek, monocab design, the Flextreme looks as clean as it drives.

With multiple aesthetic and functional innovations such as cameras that replace side-view mirrors and unconventional doors that allow easy entry and exit, Flextreme signals that the distinguishing features of Saturn's portfolio will continue in future product introductions: striking, European-inspired designs; and a commitment to providing customers with functional, efficient vehicles that respect the environment.

"Clean design, innovative features and environmental technology are hallmarks of Saturn's newly revitalized portfolio," said Saturn General Manager Jill Lajdziak. "The Flextreme concept demonstrates how these design-driven, innovative attributes will be applied in our next generation of vehicles, and it shows that unconventional thinking can result in great cars."

A collaborative effort between Saturn and GM's European Opel brand, the Flextreme concept was developed to showcase the future design direction of both brands, which share many similar customer traits. This design partnership has resulted in several highly successful production vehicles in the U.S. and Europe such as the Saturn Aura; the Saturn Sky and Opel GT; Saturn Vue and Opel Antara; and the Saturn Astra and Opel Astra. The Flextreme concept debuted as an Opel at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The Flextreme also represents Saturn's ongoing commitment to deliver vehicles that use less fuel and produce fewer emissions. Unlike conventional vehicles and gas-electric hybrids, the Saturn Flextreme concept features GM's E-Flex System that uses an electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery to propel it for up to 34 miles of electric-drive-only range. The battery can be recharged at a household outlet in just three hours. On the road, a clean and efficient 1.3L turbo-diesel onboard engine generates additional electricity to replenish the battery and extend the vehicle's driving range. Fully charged, the Flextreme's 34-mile, all-electric driving range is enough for most daily commuters in the U.S. to travel without using any fuel or emitting any CO 2.

Saturn's commitment to innovation and clean transportation is further illustrated by the two high-tech electric Segway Personal Transporters ingeniously packaged below the Flextreme's cargo floor. With a twist of the handlebar-mounted release, the handlebar retracts and rotates downward for easy loading into the rear compartment. Once docked, the batteries of these modified Segways can be charged along with the Flextreme's batteries.

Exterior design that dares to be different
The Saturn Flextreme concept highlights the new elements of Saturn design language: more sculpted surfacing molding, clear style elements such as narrow, boomerang-shaped lights and a sloping feature line in the side graphics.

Aerodynamic details and lightweight materials help enhance the fuel savings of the electric-drive system. For example, the bottom edge of the windshield is pulled far forward so that the hood, with its characteristic crease, is very short. The integrated power socket is in the cowl panel.

The front grille and rims are covered by lightweight, polycarbonate transparent trim, which improves aerodynamics while maintaining visual aesthetics. Special light alloy wheels look like conventional wheels, yet are designed to avoid energy-robbing air turbulence.

Like the wheel design, the large, boomerang-like curved front light units are visually deceptive, and continue a theme that began with the Opel GTC Concept at the Geneva Motor Show. The vertically oriented front lights "slice up" the front end in an unusual manner. The LED headlamp unit houses a lightweight crossbeam, fog lamps and air intake for brake cooling, which are comparatively small. The curved rear lights are completely integrated into the tailgate and hidden beneath rear glass. If one of the tailgate doors is opened, an additional parking light switches on so that the Flextreme can be easily seen in the dark.

All windows, including the windshield, are made of lightweight polycarbonate, as is a large part of the roof. The Flextreme's panoramic windshield provides a bright and spacious interior and stretches over most of the roof, which is reinforced by a spine-like composite structure that extends to the rear floor.
Innovative doors open up new possibilities
In keeping with Saturn's philosophy of challenging conventional thinking, the Flextreme concept design team set out to create a vehicle that combined GM's E-Flex chassis with a body style that is dynamic, yet efficiently makes the best use of space. To do so, it uses the FlexDoors and FlexLoad systems, two innovative, customer-focused solutions that enhance the Flextreme's functionality.

With the FlexDoors system, access to the rear cargo area is throug h two butterfly-style rear tailgate doors that individually swing open upward along the central axis of the vehicle. This thoughtful feature allows the Flextreme's trunk to be accessible from the side when parked tightly against a wall or another vehicle, or when a bicycle rack is fitted on the rear.

The rear doors are another key distinguishing feature of the Flextreme. While the front doors open in the conventional manner, the rear doors are rear-hinged. And as there is no center roof pillar (B-pillar), opening both doors on one side creates a large opening for easy entry. For families, this feature is especially useful when securing child seats and children into the rear seating positions.

High-tech interior features enhance convenience
The FlexLoad underfloor luggage compartment may be the Flextreme's most customer-friendly feature. A practical yet flexible stowage option that extends and retracts electronically, it eliminates having to lift luggage up, over and into a trunk. In the Flextreme concept on display, the rechargeable Segway Personal Transporters are docked in this underfloor luggage compartment.

Also inside the Flextreme concept are honeycomb structures that offer low weight and high rigidity. These functional, geometric structures can be found in the instrument panel's lower portion, cabin floor, cargo floor and above the center tunnel where the lithium-ion batteries are located.

The seats use lightweight construction and are anchored to the car's floor by a single track rather than the usual two, creating more foot space in the rear. Refined upholstery gives the seats a light and elegant look, with some parts in fabric/mesh and corners made of especially soft material. The steering wheel hub houses another high-tech feature: a full-size driver air bag packaged with a special vacuum technique that reduces its overall volume.

Large, panoramic, configurable displays are set directly under the windshield. They can show a complete, all-around view of the car's surroundings, using the two side cameras (one front-facing, one rear-facing) that replace the conventional side mirrors. The displays can also show information about vehicle systems such as the audio system, phone and other equipment.

All the right touches
A second display on the center console features touch-screen operation. At the top, the programmable, one-touch buttons are designed like computer shortcuts. They provide easy access to various intuitive menus, including air conditioning, communication/infotainment and navigation functions. The buttons can be freely programmed and adapted to new infotainment systems. Further down is the Flextreme's touch-screen drive selector gate, with three driving positions: D, P and R (drive, park and reverse). The gears can also be comfortably selected via touch-screen control.

A clever storage system at the front and back of the center tunnel allows front and rear passengers to stow items such as mobile phones, MP3 players, iPods and PDAs in two drawers. The best part about this system is that the electrical devices can be recharged in the drawers by induction, and Bluetooth-capable systems can transmit their data to the onboard infotainment system.
E-Flex System reduces emissions, trips to the gas station
The Saturn Flextreme concept is part of GM's ongoing commitment to develop vehicles that reduce emissions and the automobile's dependency on petroleum. Unlike conventional vehicles and gas-electric hybrids, GM's E-Flex System uses an electric motor, powered by a lithium-ion battery, to propel the Flextreme for up to 34 miles of all-electric and emissions-free range. The onboard engine creates additional electricity to extend the vehicle's driving range to a total of 444 miles (715 km).

GM has initiated production engineering for the E-Flex System. Production timing depends on continued advancement of key enabling technologies; specifically, the development of lithium-ion batteries for hybrid and electric vehicle applications.

While the featured fuel in Saturn Flextreme concept is diesel, GM's E-Flex System has previously been shown in gasoline and hydrogen fuel cell concepts.

NOBLE M400 (2004)

NOBLE M400 (2004)
Anyone who has driven a Noble M12 on a race circuit will attest to the car's polished handling, user-friendly nature and - of course - its vivid performance. But there's an irony here, because the M12 was always designed as a comfortable and breathtakingly fast road car first, with track-day competence thrown in as a bonus.

This has led Noble Automotive to develop the M400, a car that takes full advantage of the scope left in the M12's chassis and engine for drivers who seek even more focus in their performance and dynamics. With a power to weight ratio of 400bhp per tonne (hence the name), the M400 is not only substantially more powerful than the other cars in the M12 range, but it also showcases a variety of unique features not seen in other Nobles.

At 55,995, the M400 is not only one of the fastest production cars of its type, but its chassis - which in standard M12 form uniquely marries high-speed composure with low-speed ride compliance - has now been sharpened to give the driver even greater control of the car at speed.

But none of this has been achieved at the expense of the M400's road manners. Thanks to completely new, highly sophisticated dampers, the M400 has lost little of the M12's ride quality, which means that it is still as usable as any other M12 on the public road. Make no mistake, the M400 is so much more than just a 'track-day special'.

ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN
425bhp, 390lb ft
High-lift camshafts
Forged pistons
Larger turbochargers
Bespoke engine map
Oil cooler
Improved engine cooling
Larger-capacity, baffled oil sump
New gearshift mechanism

At the heart of the M400 is the 3.0-litre, 24-valve V6 engine that can be found in the current M12 range. However, power is now increased by 21 per cent to 425bhp and torque by 11 per cent to 390lb ft.

Internally, the engine has been modified with higher-lift cams and forged, rather than cast pistons, for extra strength. The forged pistons have been included as a safety feature for the engine, rather than out of necessity: in fact, the development car that spawned the M400 has covered many thousands of reliable miles on cast pistons with an even higher output than the production M400. Add to this the usual tuning recipe that goes into each and every Noble engine, and owners can be assured of plenty of durable high-performance.

The M400 retains the twin-turbocharged arrangement of the standard GTO-3 and 3R models, but now has a brace of larger Garrett T28 turbochargers, which produce maximum boost at 0.85bar, replacing the standard cars' T25s. A revised fuel pump and larger injectors cater for the M400's improved performance.

Working with leading automotive engineers, Roush Technologies, Noble has developed a bespoke engine map for the M400, which makes full use of the power and torque available in the mid- to top-end of the rev-range, allowing the 3.0-litre V6 to pull strongly right up to its 7200rpm limiter. The maximum 425bhp of power is now produced at 6500rpm (300rpm up on other models) and the maximum 390lb ft of torque at 5000rpm, with 75 per cent of this figure available from just 3500rpm.

Since Noble expects a majority of M400 owners to drive or compete with their cars on race circuits, it has also incorporated the following as standard:

+ Air-cooled oil cooler
+ Enlarged side air-scoops for improved engine bay cooling
+ Enlarged front air-intakes to allow a greater volume of air into the radiator
+ A single, dual-function oil pressure/oil temperature gauge, located next to the turbo-boost gauge on the dash-centre (the location of the pre-production press car's gauge differs slightly)
+ A baffled 'track-day' oil sump with larger, 8.5-litre capacity, which is a cost option on other Noble models.

Completing the drivetrain upgrades is a completely new gearshift mechanism for the six-speed manual gearbox, which uses low-maintenance, dry-running polymer bearings. The gearlever is now mounted slightly higher in the cabin and moves through a far quicker and more precise gate than before, making committed driving on circuit or road a pleasure.

CHASSIS
High-performance dampers and springs
Revised steering rack allowing more lock
Softer-compound, road/race tyres
Front anti-roll bar
Reduced kerbweight
Revised brake bias valving
Noble has targeted three key areas while developing the M400's chassis:
1. To improve levels of grip at high speeds without losing the inherently progressive breakaway characteristics for which the standard 3R is renowned;
2. To build in even greater degrees of body composure as the car approaches its limits, making it more predictable and controllable on the road and track;
3. To closely approach the on-road ride quality of the standard M12.

In order to achieve this, Noble started by replacing the 3R model's dampers with highly sophisticated, bespoke Dynamic Suspensions units, supplied by Multimatic Technical Centre Europe. These coil-over dampers were chosen after objective testing on Multimatic's 4-post test rig, followed by subjective evaluation on road and track, including Germany's famous Nurburgring.

The dampers are monotube units, featuring an impact-extruded aluminium body to minimise weight, and have 45mm sintered pistons and 14mm shafts, incorporating a proprietary low friction-sealing system to optimise performance. Damping levels are fixed, though a threaded external body does allow the M400's ride height to be adjusted, if required. As with all Nobles, double wishbones are fitted all round.

Complementing the Dynamics dampers is a revised steering rack, which allows a further 0.8 of a turn between locks, while retaining the same ratio found on other Nobles (to make this possible, the footwell has been re-designed and is now double-skinned, adding further strength to the car's structure). There are now 2.5 turns from lock to lock (standard M12: 1.7 turns) which gives drivers potentially more control if the car is oversteering on a track. Naturally, this revision has also allowed improved manoeuvrability at lower speeds.

All Nobles are famed for their phenomenal roadholding, but the M400 raises the bar even higher. Replacing the M12 model's Bridgestone SO-3 tyres, are Pirelli P-Zero Corsas of identical size. The Pirellis are directional and asymmetric in design and their softer compound offers increased levels of grip and steering feel. The M400's high-speed control has also been enhanced by the Pirelli's stronger sidewalls, which have a high resistance to flex under extreme cornering forces.

The M400 is the first Noble production car to use an anti-roll bar (ARB), which is fitted to the front suspension only. Designed in-house, the ARB weighs just 6kgs, thanks to hollow components which have been laser-cut and CNC-machined. While no road-going Noble has ever been fitted with an ARB before, Martin Short's Rollcentre team is currently using the factory-designed system on its GT Cup Noble M12 this season, and is convinced of its worth under race conditions.

In order to arrive at the M400's 400bhp per tonne power to weight ratio, Noble has managed to shave 20kgs from the M12's already slender kerbweight by removing the air conditioning pump and its assorted plumbing. While air conditioning is a cost option on the standard 3R model, no cars have left the factory without it, hence its inclusion in the 3R's kerbweight figure. However, Noble anticipates that M400 owners will be more likely to forgo this feature in favour of a superior power to weight ratio. Air conditioning will remain a cost option on the M400.

Brakes are 330mm diameter discs all round, with four-pot callipers, taken from the current M12 range. The M400 adds a revised pressure control valve, which sends more bias to the rear brakes.
INTERIOR
Full Alacantara trim
New Sparco multi-adjustable race seats
Four-point race harnesses
Oil temp/pressure gauge

In keeping with the M400's 'race-car meets road-car' remit, all models will be trimmed throughout in high-quality black Alcantara and fitted with all-new Sparco race seats. The seats themselves are trimmed in a hardwearing black jaquard fabric, and fitted with an anti-slip cushion, as well as removable backrest and under-thigh pads. Both seats are fore and aft adjustable, and can be tilted backwards and forwards for maximum comfort. As with all Nobles, the steering column can also be adjusted for reach.

Bearing in mind that the M400 will be popular among circuit drivers, Noble has moved both seats in towards the centre of the car by 15mm to allow more headroom at the side of, and above, occupants' heads, especially if they're wearing crash helmets. This re-positioning has also removed the slight pedal offset found in standard M12s. All M400s come as standard with four-point race harnesses, as well as a conventional inertia-reel safety belt for road use.

While the basic dash architecture will be familiar to current M12 owners, the M400's cabin also receives a combined oil temperature and pressure gauge incorporated into the central switch-panel and 'M400' badging on the steering wheel boss.

EXTERIOR
'M400' badging
Anthracite-coloured alloy wheels
Anthracite-coloured rear wing supports
Larger front and side scoops
'M400' graphics

The M400 is instantly identifiable from the outside by its black or red (depending upon body colour) graphics running along each door, and its anthracite-coloured wheels and rear-wing supports. No other Noble goes like it - or looks like it.

'M400' badging adorns the rear panel and the car is also defined visually by larger air-scoops at the side and the front (see Engine & Drivetrain).

Body colours for the M400 are:
Monza red (with black graphics)
Portofino Blue metallic (with red graphics)
Diamond Black metallic (with red graphics)
Larch Silver metallic (with red graphics)
Azure Blue metallic (with red graphics)
Titanium metallic (with red graphics)

NOBLE M15 (2006)

NOBLE M15 (2006)
Building on the success of the no-compromise M12, the M15 is a more mature Noble with luxuries including Satellite Navigation, impeccable ride and 300 litres of luggage space!

"The M12 is a great car, but it's very focused and I wanted to produce a supercar people could use every day," said founder Lee Noble. "It was time for Noble to take a big step up in terms of refinement, practicality and style.

"We're delighted with this new car's all-round skills and the I reckon there's not a car in its class to touch it dynamically. After all, it's still a Noble!"

With a 455bhp version of the tried and trusted three-litre twin turbo engine Noble has come to rely on, this is also the quickest car ever to emerge from Barwell, Leicestershire. With the complementary figure of 455lb/ft of torque, all in a car that weighs slightly more than 1200kg, the M15 is devastatingly fast.

The M15 accelerates from 0-60mph in less than 3.5 seconds and 10 100mph in less than 8s. It keeps going all the way to 185mph, too, and has been tuned for rapid acceleration throughout the range rather than an easily achievable 200mph top end speed.

Supreme cornering skills and a confidence-inspiring chassis are part the DNA and, in this respect, the M15 promises to be the best yet. The spaceframe chassis with integral rollcage is 57 per cent stiffer than the M12 that has won plaudits throughout the world and intensive development has ensured that the fabled Noble handling on the limit is even better than before.

At 74,950 the M15 pitches straight into battle with the established supercar brands, but Noble is happy to meet them head on. "Hopefully people that test this car will see it as a real alternative to 130,000 exotica, as well as the immediate competition in the price range," he said. "We know we're taking on tough opposition, but I'm sure this car is going to take us forward in a big way."

McLaren MP4-12C (2011)

McLaren MP4-12C (2011)
The McLaren MP4-12C is revealed as the first in a range of high-performance sports cars from McLaren Automotive, the independent car division based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England. The 12C, and future models within the range, will challenge the world's best sports cars, benefiting from the expertise and virtuosity of the McLaren Group.

Twenty years of sports car design, engineering and production combined with inspirational success in Formula 1 have driven Ron Dennis, McLaren Automotive Chairman, to announce his plans for the ultimate line-up of technology-led and customer-focused performance cars for the 21st century. The rules in the sports car world are about to be re-written.

Through a rich modern history, McLaren's automotive division has already built the world's most critically acclaimed supercar, the McLaren F1 (1993-1998) and the world's best-selling luxury supercar, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (2003-2009). McLaren Automotive now looks to the future with a new range of revolutionary sports cars.

"It is a long-held dream of mine to launch a range of high performance sports cars that set new standards in the industry," said Dennis.

"We began designing and building cars for aficionados of thoroughbred sports cars almost 20 years ago. Incorporating the leading edge technologies that the McLaren Group has built up within its various companies, I believe we are now perfectly placed to open up this new chapter in McLaren's history as well as play a part in the regeneration of high-tech manufacturing in the UK and global automotive environment," he concluded.

At its heart, the McLaren MP4-12C features a revolutionary carbon fibre chassis structure, the Carbon MonoCell: the first time a car in this market segment is based around such a strong and lightweight racing car engineering solution and the first time any car has ever featured a one-piece carbon fibre structure.

This step change in sports car design means that the 12C introduces new standards not just in handling, ride and outright performance, but also safety, economy and practicality in an already competitive sector.

Martin Whitmarsh, Team Principal of McLaren's racing team highlighted the integral part that McLaren's motorsport and road car experience played in developing the 12C: "McLaren has for years offered a potent mix of race car and road car technologies. This combination of McLaren's performance heritage, and future demands on what is expected of high performance sports cars in the 21st century, gave us a head-start when we embarked on this project. The 12C, and future variants, draws on the spirit of Formula 1 and delivers real-world technological advances."

The first car from the new company, the McLaren MP4-12C, is a high performance two-seat mid-engine model in the 'core' sports car market segment for cars costing between 125,000 and 175,000. The 12C is pure McLaren, featuring no carryover parts from any other car, and will be produced by McLaren in the UK. It goes on sale through a dedicated, worldwide retailer network in early 2011.

"McLaren is already a car maker with maturity and experience, having produced iconic cars such as the F1," said Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive Managing Director.

"The next step was to construct a range of pure McLaren high performance sports cars that are true to the company's philosophy and reflect our position as an absolute technology and performance leader. So, when we embarked on the 12C project, we wanted to re-write the rules of sports car design. Indeed, the 12C offers performance and technology that exceeds that of the world's most expensive and sophisticated supercars, while competing in a much more accessible market segment. And to achieve this result, we designed every component from scratch to meet the extreme goals of the 12C and avoid any compromise."

"Forget what you know about sports car companies, McLaren is different," he concluded.
